They literally said "so that these can fucking die", which does sound like they do want less variety. Whether they make a multiplayer boost game (which is probably far more complicated than adding another player on the screen), it wouldn't invalidate these games that obviously play entirely differently. These are the most inoffensive games possible, I don't even get why people want them to die lol.
Nah, you just gotta think of it as...imagine if the Sonic vs. Shadow Boss fight in Generations was a racing game So you'd have to keep track of a Boost Gauge, Drifting, Tricks, and if you run into someone while they're also boosting then you'd bump into them like a bumper car. Just imagine 12 Racers boosting at once like that. Pure chaos, even before you throw in items.
Why are you acting like I don't know that spinoffs are helpful for filling space, or that genre variety is nice, or that I don't have to play games I don't like? I'm fine with a Sonic Kart racer existing alongside the main series leaning more into the racing elements they've embraced since 2008. But if we can only have one, the latter is way more up my alley, and I'm just a little skeptical that we'll get both side by side. I'd love to be wrong, and I'll gladly eat my hat when it happens. Also, the concept of a Sega crossover Kart racer also just holds a lot more appeal to me than a Sonic-specific Kart racer, so it's very lame that they're continuing to not go back to the much more inspired premise of the first two games. Yeah, I was being a little hyperbolic there, and I also got things a little backwards. Apologies. The proper thought would be "I hope these fucking die, so they can make a more inspired multiplayer Sonic racing game". Maybe you're right that they wouldn't be competing for the same niche, and I hope that the shot callers would agree with you. But I am not optimistic on that latter point. Either way, I think if we really wanted more variety we'd be asking for more spinoffs outside of the platforming and racing realms. Give us another fighting game, or an RPG. Sure, there's variety to be had within a genre, but there's even more in completely different ones. But oh well, I've made my complaint, no need to suck other peoples' enjoyment out of this announcement.
His bike's in the shop. I'm curious what it exactly means to race across time and space. Is it gonna be a whole game full of tracks transforming into Radical Highway? Is is just gonna be crossovers with other versions of Sonic? Very curious.
Knowing that this is a multiplayer spin-off, I hope that this means that we can see a new game with Mighty and Ray. + - And Madonna.[\ISPOILER]
I get the feeling that had this been say, 1996, Sega would have made the effort to invent a brand new franchise to scratch the kart racing itch, rather than shove Sonic the Hedgehog in there. Sonic characters in cars has felt weird since 1994, and Sonic characters on foot has been unbalanced and awkward since 1997 - use something else! I can just about tolerate it with the Sega-themed racing games, because while yes, Sonic would serve those games better being on foot, at least there's no pretense of story or world building. They've already jumped the shark, so to speak. Though you could probably get away with if you were doing, say, "Chaotix Racing" - anything that doesn't involve characters known for running fast with their legs. Still, something new would offer much more flexibility - maybe corner the market F-Zero and Wipeout have left behind, or leverage the hardware to make something totally new and unexpected, like Sega used to do with Dreamcast games. I have no interest in Shadow the Hedgehog in a racing kart.
This needs to be more like ASRT than TSR or it'll be as mediocre as the last game was. Sega, you have a large stable of IP that you apparently want to use, here is the perfect opportunity.
The one way I can see it being a crossover game is if they wanna add more SEGA icons but maintain the same engine from TSR. I don't know whether that's a sign of practicality or lethargy if so, SEGA have a habit of throwing the baby out with the bath water unless they wanna get something out for a quick buck, eg. Forces. An all star SEGA roster would be a neat way of showing improvement over TSR's lackluster roster, though they would all the same need to improve on content quantity. Again they have to compete with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Crash Team Racing, both of which got HUGE updates with extra tracks and fan favourite characters, crossover stars included.
There is an excellent interview with SEGA COO , which i think people should read https://www.eurogamer.net/putting-t...ame-rock-roll-compared-to-nintendos-pop-music what caught my interest is the way he referred to this racing game What an interesting way to refer to a racing game, seems more ambitious than we think
I gotta be honest with you, I liked the original SASASR over SAASRT because I didn't really care much for the airplane stuff. Getting to race as Jacky Briant against AiAi in the Curien Mansion in the Outrun 2006 engine? Good shit. The fact that this sounds like it's gonna have the morphs and not be mostly karts has me disappointed, because that means it'll be less like Outrun. GIVE ME MORE OUTRUN YOU COWARDS
Late to the party. Just watched the teaser. Firstly, wow actually a smart piece of marketing by using Shadow instead of Sonic to tease the new racer. Kudos SEGA! Secondly, I'm totally down for a new racer. I actually really liked TSR despite it kind of flopping. IIRC the online racing community was really fun...for about a week and then everyone (including myself) fucked-off to play the far more popular Crash Team Racing remake. I liked the multi-player team co-op design in TSR so hopefully this new racer will have both single-player & team co-op. Hope this game with have characters from Sonic and other SEGA IP's (like with S&SASR and SASRT). I'd like the idea of warping between stages from South Island, Westside Island and Angel Island. Inb4 we'll get a hybrid Green Hill-Chemical Plant-Sky Sanctuary stage
yeah this was me too lol CTR is still the GOAT kart racer for me and really changed my perspective on what I enjoy out of them, so this new Sonic Racer needs to have some kind of interesting gameplay twist for me. There are rumblings that Nintendo may release the next Mario Kart alongside the Switch 2 next year so it's going to have to compete with that too
Full agreement here. Personally I think a Sonic racing game should lean on Sonic/Sega's strengths for raw speed and arcadey action instead of leaning heavy on gimmicks that could slow that down. I wasn't as keen on Transformed as the original for that reason, and the team mechanic / missions put me off TSR completely. If they continue down the route they've been on, all they can do is pray that whatever gimmick they lean into can hold water against an imminent Mario Kart 9 announcement. Switch 2 is coming soon, after all. Just seems like a bad time to announce one of these..
Add me on the No-Transformation gimmick train. I greatly preferred All Star over Transformed because I just did not find boat and plane modes fun. They didn't feel anywhere as fast, and their more "open" track design felt slow compared to the excellent track design of the kart sections that had you swerving around corners. I liked TSR's return to Kart only focus, but hated that they dropped the SEGA cross over angle. I actually didn't mind the Team mode gimmick, but that should have been a side multiplayer mode feature, not the main attraction. I honestly do hope the Team mechanics return as a bonus mode though.
It's probably too soon to assume that CrossWorlds will control exactly like Transformed. Especially if Hardlight are the ones developing it and not Sumo. So I'd say to at least leave the door a little open to it again until we see some gameplay or hands on demos.
I want a Sonic Team Racing game where you play as Iizuka, Naka, and Hoshino and run through Sonic levels
S&SAST is right up there with Mario Kart 8 for me. I'd even go as far to say, it's got the edge over MK8. Single player as well as multiplayer (on- and offline equally) are super fun. Whatever Hardlight is cooking up, isn't gonna have it easy.
