they put shadow in the trailer instead of sonic because shadow is cooler and more badass than sonic could ever dream of being
Based on the teaser trailer, I'm guessing the team mechanics have been ditched, and the hook for the tracks is that they're going to switch environments by passing through the gates, kinda like Sunshine Tour or Dream Valley.
I would definitely choose to make this another All-Stars game, but this does seem more ambitious than Team Sonic Racing, which is what it really needed. I thought it was fun but it's such a basic "Sonic racing game."
CrossWorlds might mean it’s actually that instead of just crossing over into every version of Seaside Hill track in a single track.
Or at the very least a rerelease of Sonic R with some bells and whistles, given they've got on the remake bandwagon lately. This looks....interesting. Curious that Team Sonic Racing wasn't considered a lost cause against Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing, even if I still think juicing that one up with DLC and online events like those two would have been more practical than another separate entry. Just....make sure this one has enough content this time, guys.
With the Switch 2 coming I wonder if a new Mario Kart is coming next year. If I were Sega I’d be praying that Mario Kart 9 (or 10?) is coming in 2026 cuz I wouldn’t want to compete with a new Mario Kart. Despite all that tho, I’m excited. I’ve wanted a new racing game… …I just really hope this turns out to be a Sega crossover kart racer. I really want a diverse cast celebrating Sega’s history. Dream Team was great so this is a good sign
I had heard on the discord that Sumo Digital was bought by Tencent, so they are off the table. I do wonder if this is an updated console release of the Apple Arcade game, or something wholly new.

We still know so little. CrossWorlds tells me that this at least has the capacity to have other Sega characters, there's just a larger focus on Sonic. So it's probably a Mario Kart 8 situation.
I guess even if NiGHTS was in this thing he'd still have that stank Journey of Dreams design anyway. /sourgrapes
Hardlight potentially developing it is a little worrying because I was hopeful to see some nice new graphics we've not seen in a Sonic racing game but they don't really seem like they'd be fantastic for that. An even worse fear is it almost feels like it could be something live service with Sonic Racing being used as testing grounds for alternative skins like all the other Hardlight games. I feel like it was a lot more admirable for Team Sonic Racing to have been one and done than people give it credit because the alternative will almost always be putting more and more money down for something that will just fade into the background at best.
