Maybe some SMS-style special stages, like normal levels but with many bumpers and stuff? That wouldn't be more difficult to implement than any of the other levels, I guess.

Well since the emeralds are actually in the levels, I could use something like that as a bonus stage. Once I stop the Time Travel relying on the starposts, I'll make the starposts lead to that instead. Either that, or do it in true SMS style - finish level with 50+ rings and enter it.

EDIT: Except for a minor graphical bug which I'm working on fixing, grinding is complete, and has support for as many levels as I want. I've got a video which I've linked to below. Of course, at the moment it's still demonstrated on OOZ, but you'll see there's less friction on the slides meaning you can go further up before coming down and there are 2 animations - 1 for uphill, 1 for downhill - which play at the correct times. You can't really see the graphical bug in this video but it's there. I wanna try and change Sonic's animation when he leaves the rail as well, rather than him staying in the grinding position.

On a side note, the grinding sprites are S3 style, whereas my current sprites are the original S2 sprites. I will be putting S3 sprites in though so just try to ignore it for now. The link to the video is below. If the link doesn't work properly, right-click and save as. It should work, but I say this just in case.

I'll be the first to say that level select looks AMAZING.

Sonic CD Beta-esque, I like it a lot!

EDIT: Looking at it again though, I think if the entire level thing was centered, then it'd look better. Saying that, I'm anal about symmetry. Either way it looks brilliant.

This is probably the best Sonic 2 hack ever created. Keep it up!

Sound Test has been removed from level select. I didn't see the point of having it in the game twice.

Nice Level Select. Looks very professional.

I always thought that the extra sound test was there to do additional cheats after the level select one.

I actually just noticed an error in my own level select. After Bionic Base, it says 1 2 A B C C, instead of 1 2 A B C D. I'll fix this up later though, and I'll probably move the level icons up a bit as well, coz they look pretty close the the bottom. 2 things left on the technical list now, and then I can concentrate on the actual levels. I'm gonna try and recreate the transition from Isolated Island in Chaotix, where the background sways from side to side to give a hazy effect, and use this in my warp transition. Finally, I might consider doing a character select screen, but I'm not too sure about this one.

As for the cheats, I'm going to try and reprogram then to work like Sonic 1 (title screen input) and if I can't do that, I'll make them all work on the options screen instead. Level select will only be accessible when the game is complete, and will automatically load when continue is selected on a completed game. Since the SRAM remembers how many emeralds you had, Super Sonic will also be enabled if you continue a completed game, as long as you got all the emeralds. That really only leaves debug mode needing a cheat, and I don't really use that anyway. The way I see it is, if you need to use debug mode in the game, there's obviously a problem with the game that needs fixing. If the game is practically bug free, there's really no need for it.

You can also use Debug alongside the Super Sonic cheat and a turbo controller to get rings really damn fast. :P

That is the best level select ever. Keep it up.

How are you going to select one act and the time period?

I assume you select the act, then it brings you to the ABCD choices; like, you can't access the time period choices until after you select an act.

Cheats on title screen, sonic 1 style, is really easy - I've done it in my hack :P

I've got a few ways I can do that level select, but I don't know which to do for the best. I can either:

    A. Keep the level select as it is and have it so you select the level and then the timezone.

    B. Change the level select to display "Current Timezone" and have buttons B and C change the timezone. Select level as normal.

    C. Change the level select and selecting a zone with A starts Past, B starts Present, C starts G.Future, and Start starts B.Future.

Which do you think I would be better off doing? I wanna keep the programming simple and keep the level select as user friendly as possible.

I vote A. Simple and effective. Maybe have A select the zone, and if you accidentally selected the wrong zone, you can press C to get out of the "Timezone" select, and back into the "Zone" select. Just a suggestion.

    Hey,

Really cool game but when I activated the debug mode and turned into a ring instead of rings it made gems. I was wondering what do they do?

Ooh, sounds like you learned to place emeralds using debug mode. I didn't know you could do that. =P

    Get 7 for Supar Sonic.

I just finished trying what you said and it doesn't work, wierd. Also I was wondering how do you get into special stages since checkpoints send you into the past or present.
