Sonic Origins Collection - General Thread

    Dear Goodness... Why...? Just...WHY?! Darn it, SEGA!!! WHY?!
    They had such great feats close at hand already! Why didn't they reach out to @E-122-Psi or the others for the Amy inclusion?
    She feels way more at home and funnier to play with on those mods... :'(

    Seeing Amy in S3k feels right, I think that's the first game I would play to test her out.

    OK so I have noticed her ball form seems to use I guess the standard collision size so she sometimes feels like she is floating when rolling... what's the bet that they fucked up scaling again and she has sonic's hitbox and tails yet again is the only short character?? They messed up with Ray in mania and are they about to do the same mistake here in origins too??

    We now have brief footage of Hyper Amy (from 0:40):



    Edit: Well I assume it's Hyper. Looks like just a Super form but this guy clearly has collected all Super Emeralds (which you can see at the start of the video).

    So maybe Amy doesn't have a Hyper form in Origins Plus and just a Super form? Even though Tails was given a Hyper form in Vanilla Origins.

    And apparently, she can't transform with normal Chaos Emeralds, she must get the Super ones.

    Advance Amy is too complicated for little girls but not S&K's special stages. So much for parity with Sonic considering he can go Super with half the effort.

    and for that too. I guess it was too much to ask for Super Amy to have upwards facing spikes.

    this one is justifiable I feel since literally all the other Super/Hyper classic characters are their normal sprites with a pallete change or flashing effect. Like, if you complain about her feeling out of place as-is...

    The fact that she seems to have a unique hammer toss as an attack in that vid suggests that its proper hyper to me

    Yeah I'm gonna bet just adding spikes to all the S3 Super Sonic sprites was hell enough, let alone having to do it for Amy for all 4 games.

    Seeing Amy in action though she looks fine to me. The RGB values might not be 100% accurate to the hardware but it looks like it fits. Dunno what to think of the gameplay yet though, I do get a bit of a "this it?" feeling.

    You would expect Ray to be small body type like Tails, he is even short in the mania adventures animation but in mania he is fully sized like Sonic and knuckles and his head is huge lol

    Gameplay wise it's minimal but tails does have some benefits from being slightly smaller, for a game with 5 playable characters it would be nice if it wasn't a 4 to 1 ratio.

    In a way I understand that SEGA (or Sonic Team, no idea what the workflow was) as the ultimate decision maker may not be at fault, but it's their responsibility anyway because either they asked for something unreasonable, approved something that they knew wasn't perfect or denied HC the possibility of doing it better for some reason (time compromises, resource allocation, etc.). HC, as professionals, do the best work they can -- just not for the consumers, but for the client. It sucks that it turned out like this, and they aren't immune to criticism, but at the end of the day it's on SEGA to deliver a better package because they are the ones who get the most out of it too.

    Well they made all of Sonic 3's art within the time between Origins and Origins Plus, which would include brand new sets for Sonic and Knuckles... and all items, levels, bosses, and whatever, so I don't think it's totally unreasonable to finish a new character in the space year 2023. They're using the same sprites across all four games and have plenty of reference material to worth with.

    Although granted, nothing in this package strikes me as a year's worth of work. DLC was probably commissioned after the sales numbers came through, and given we're questioning the quality of the base art, it would suggest time was at a premium. But a man can dream!

    Okay so after seeing the new footage, I see what they are going for. An increased hotbox when jumping in the air at the expense of a weakened drop dash (in terms of mechanics). Since the hammer dash is essentially a spinball.

    I still think the sound effects are strangely amateurish but I can respect what they are going for here. There are clear positives and downsides to her. She's actually quite well designed.

    SoI think I was just being a prick. Lol!

    I'll pick it up when it comes out.

    After having watched those vids...
    Yeah...I jumped the gun soon too.
    SEGA's Amy seems to fit decently in Origins' classics.

    She could've been made better, I guess...
    But gotta do with what they give us, I guess? ^^"

    I think the height of her hitbox was discussed here earlier, and from this clip it seems like her hitbox is smaller than Sonic's

    At like 0:31 she goes right below the spikes, and as I have tested Sonic can't do that while Tails does, so it seems like she does have a smaller hitbox
