Tails is fine with Sonic 2's set. He looks off with Knuckles since Knuckles is not even from that game.

I also fucked around for a few minutes in Chaotix to see how close to the system-compatible colors and (granted, just eyeballing) I could get both the implemented in-game and in-menu palettes. The top one is what I came up with for matching the in-game colors, which could probably do with a little less green and definitely less blue to match what I would have expected relative to her Sonic CD appearance (though I think the darker two colors in her SCD palette might be a shade darker -- mostly I just wanted to see if the colors were well outside the system palette limitations, and the answer seems to be 'no', and the problems are a bit weirder than that).

If it turned out they actually are indexing colors from the super palette rather than the normal palette...well, wouldn't surprise me and would at least explain the discrepancy.

What is up with the animation on the special stage?
Colors seem fine in 3K outside of Special, which leads me to believe that SEGA's team was probably responsible for back porting her into the other games and they ended up fucking with her colors.

Seems this is what's in the artbook.

I don't remember that 1993 illustration being in Origins? If they didn't I wonder if it's going to be in the game as well. Also, I wonder if it's just a scan of the Sega Freak card that has it or they actually have access to the original artwork.

It was definitely missing from Screen Saver / Jam / Gems.

The other Harmony illustration that was missing from those three was vol. #112's Sonic on a swing. Sega of Japan repurposed that one for a calendar on their Instagram account last year (unfortunately the art is partially obscured by the semi-transparent "9"): https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch7Zqzrsicp/

So they do have it in their archives, despite having missed it in previous compilations.

There's also an image from the 1995 Sega World calendar that's missing from Screen Saver / Jam / Gems / Origins. I don't think anyone's gotten a good photo of that, let alone a scan. It's one that's shown up before at at least one anniversary event in Japan, so they have that in their archives too.

For the 1992 calendar, the foreground images of Sonic are separate from the backgrounds (which featured the Sonic Band!), and unfortunately the backgrounds weren't included in any of these galleries either.

So there's definitely more stuff they have access to that could be included.

  6. I don’t think we have any scans for the 1993 art as clean as that one, the one we have from the card has text on it and is a bit grainy.

Man despite my overall positivity, Sega keeps finding ways to make me unable to justify anything they've been doing. Why put that name on the cartridge if that isn't even the game that's actually on it... Super shady business practice.

Gonna be funny if the download code is a 1kb file that unlocks the content already in the storage media.

If that ends up being true, modders may find ways to bypass that without code... ^^"

...wait, that's how Amy works in Origins? A bizarre mishmash of that huge hammer insta-shield and an awkward quasi-drop-dash... thing? Why?

SEGA probably couldn't come up with anything good. I'm more disappointed by how bland her animations are overall outside of 1 or 2 actions.
I should note that I don't blame the HC staff for that at all. These things need to be approved by Sonic Team. There's only so much freedom you can have on these types of projects.

I noticed the brighter whites immediately. Wow...just wow...I want to support the classic stuff, but I'm not paying for this.

Again, I know everyone likes Headcanon, but we have no idea if this is true and everyone is speaking as if this is fact. We don't know who is responsible for Amy's poor implementation. We can't just assume SEGA is responsible for all the problems.

I'd like to believe it wasn't Headcannon because that seems completely unlike them, and there's certainly a connection to be made between Amy's weird behavioral quirks and the things Sonic Team added to the games, the drop dash being the main example. They've demonstrated they aren't very good at working with the RSDK or scripting, so I think that holds true here. Headcannon also went on record to say they were mostly contributing art assets and bugfixes, if their tweet is anything to go by.

Despite that, in the end it doesn't really matter whose fault it is. Whoever was responsible for it really dropped the ball.

I'm speaking from experience here. I know for a fact that this was most likely the case. And again, I am only talking about art and animation.

Plus Sega has the higher responsibility for everything, even if one can't point to Sonic Team or Internal Team or whatever the hell. Any criticisms, mistakes, issues and whatever land on their doorstep before anything else, since they're both publisher and internalized developer with outsourced work.

Is the version of Plus some people are playing even the patched versions of the games that were being touted or is it basically the exact same but the new stuff on top? People keep telling me "you gotta wait for the patch update with the official release before you judge it!" But if Amy is in these games, that would imply this is the underwhelming patch.

So, I have all of the original Mega Drive and Game Gear Sonic games, flamewing's Sonic Classic Heroes and E122-Psi's Amy in S1/2/3, the mobile ports of Sonic CD/1/2, Sonic 1 Forever, Sonic 2 Absolute, and Sonic 3 AIR.

I think all I need is character mods in the original Sonic CD and the mobile port and then we have everything that should've been in Sonic Origins.

@E-122-Psi made a character mod for the Origins' games?
And what about that "Sonic Classic Heroes"? I only heard the name, never checked playthroughs...
But yeah, I guess finally the time has come for fans of Sonic games on PC to feel (a bit) alive ^^"

The original Mega Drive games. Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog, Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic 3 and Amy Rose. Amy has effectively her Advance 1 moveset with the not-Peelout from Advance 2.

Then you're majorly missing out: Sonic Classic Heroes. Merged from flamewing's Sonic 2 Heroes and ColinC10's Sonic 1 & 2, you can play as any combination of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles with all of their abilities (save the drop dash, which wasn't a thing at the time)... and also Team Chaotix.

Honestly Sonic Classic Heroes by itself is already a better Sonic Origins for the first two games. If you really need to add a mission mode then you can turn to ColinC10's Sonic VR too.
