    Easy compromise for Amy's moveset:

Down on ground: Duck/roll, same as all characters
Down+jump on ground: Spindash, same as all characters
Jump button on ground: Hammer jump - higher than other characters, but leaves her vulnerable
Jump button in air: Hammer twirl - longer time and range insta-shield
Down+jump in air: Hammer spin - acts like the bubble shield

Then you have a character that fits in all the games while having her own pros, cons, and is much more unique than "Sonic with a double jump".

  2. That’s not bad. I didn’t consider just making the default jump a hammer jump when I was thinking up a solution. The only problem I see is that I don’t think ST would be okay with having a down + jump input in the air. Excluding the cut moves from Sonic 3, we’ve never really had something like that in the classics.

I mean down/up and jump on the ground only started in Sonic 2 and CD. Also the 8 bit games had Tails fly by pressing up and jump and Knuckles Chaotix had several direction/jump combo moves. New ideas have to start somewhere.

I do like that new moveset idea. For a potential twist, they could maybe give her a peel out instead of a spin dash (which would also work as a CD nod), so down and jump on ground could be relegated to her hammer jump instead of her default. Alternatively just have the hammer jump an up and jump on ground combo instead.

Maybe have her initial jump still vulnerable, but the hammer jump in air works the same, not being as short term as her Advance attack and working more like a long term insta shield, just you rely on it to attack at all. She can still roll normally though, so she's not exactly the same weakened level as her Advance form.

Really there I think you have a decent simplified version of her Advance moveset. A clear weakness (starting jump is vulnerable) but loads of exploitable moves and her weakspot isn't as crippling as it was originally where she couldn't roll in any form.

ok how about you just have tap for the insta shield reskin but include the ability to bounce higher if you time it as you hit the ground, doing it consecutivly would alow you to go higher.

That's......actually a pretty clever idea. i get the feeling that would be super addictive for experienced players and speedrunners as well.

See this is what I mean. So many clever opportunities for new and exciting moves here, even if they didn't want to emulate Advance 1.

You seem to not read much of anything that says otherwise to have this opinion. What about the blurry graphics? The low quality sound? The sound volume issues? Sonic 3 & Knuckles's physics? The crash bug in Sonic the Hedgehog? The incorrect collision box in Sonic the Hedgehog 2?

Not to defend it, but I take it the low quality sound means S3&K's soundtrack compared to the rest and sound volume issues means the SCD cutscenes? Also what's the collision box in S2? And I assume the crash bug in S1 is Sonic w/ Tails getting the 6 Emeralds?

Crashes also still happen when you use the No &K Branding cheat in S3&K on the Slot Machine Bonus Stage or try to place an Item Ball w/ Debug Mode in their two Bonus Stages, still keeping us from knowing what that elusive "S" Item Ball does after all these years. I'll be baffled if these still aren't fixed with Plus.

As for Amy, I do wonder how subtle differences w/ her Insta-Shield/Drop Dash equivalents will paint her playstyle in practice. Does her Drop Dash not actually boost and loose momentum? Does her larger/longer Insta-Shield Hammer not reflect projectiles?

Again, IDK if the mostly locked pre-existing level design of the originals kept them from going to crazy with her. Also, if she does have a double jump in Origins (I thought I saw her either normal jump or Hammer jump in Origins Plus footage so IDK?), I think it's kinda funny it'd basically be making Blast's Sonic/his ability finally a staple in the original games too, as well as an Elemental Shield's move for the one game that still doesn't have those in any form, SCD. That Headcannon is programming in emulations of that/non-borked Drop Dash/Insta-Shield across all games is going to be kinda weird if some of them still don't have Elemental Shields/proper Drop Dash/Insta-Shield, or the Super Peel-Out to that degree. That's like the one feather in Absolute/Forever/Restored's hat that I actually want Origins to have? Headcannon threw in the Super Peel-Out into S3&K when they had the opportunity, but they seemingly weren't allowed to make Sonic w/ Tails a thing in SCD (or at least by default?), which would've been an easy leg up on a feature I've never seen in a fan version.

  8. That does sound very fun. I think most experienced players constantly chain hammer jumps when playing as Amy in Sonic Adventure just for fun and speed, so this would be a cool take on that and actually give it a purpose.

Like Fang in SRB2 - I love it.

I was more inspired from her triple hammer jump thing from SA1, but yeah guess it is a bit like SRB2 Fang.

With an ability like this it has the perfect balance of being simple for a casual to understand whilst still offering some mechanical complexity for speed runners which is exactly what the drop dash is for Sonic. We have tails and knuckles, 2 slower paced exploring focused characters but only one with a momentumey (I have no idea how to describe how fun the drop dash is) moveset. Makes sense to even it out with Amy.

It's also different to the drop dash significantly as that is more horizontal and my hammer bounce is vertical.

I'm imagining how fun it would be to combine this ability with badnik bounces, damn I might have to make a hack/mod with this at somepoint since you guys seem to like it as well.

I would disagree with any suggestion to make her core movement different from the other characters. Regular jump should just be a regular jump, etc. If the hammer jump is usable from a ground position, it needs to be Up+jump to not interfere with the spin moves. Timing the "instashield" on the ground for bounces is definitely interesting. I wonder if new players launching themselves by accident in that way could become a problem.

I remember hearing/reading that all of the music in the games, save for maybe Sonic CD, was a bit muffled. But I could be wrong.
    Correct.
It's inaccurate, meaning that the characters collide with things they didn't in the original game. The best example is a spot in Metropolis Zone where in the remake you hit the ceiling spikes after jumping off a spring.
    Yup.

I'm talking about my personal issues with it, I suppose. For someone looking to occasionally, casually play through the classics here and there, this is easily the best official way to do so for me.

I'm not gonna deny that other issues exist, but I personally have not encountered them since the more egregious ones (e.g. Tails endlessly jumping in Sonic 2) were patched out.

I'm hoping that the new update can bring these ports up to code though. I'm not gonna deny that there are still issues, they just aren't things that casual players will notice.

They've made her so ridiculously adorable I'm beginning to wonder if maybe her Adventure redesign being as drastic as it was might have been a mistake.

Some people have speculated that post-Frontiers will come with some redesigns as well (Kishimoto promising a new Sonic model helping this), I'm wondering if it might be time for her to get a new haircut and outfit.

That was in the original mobile version of the remake, but yeah.

I guess with the soundtracks, S1 and S2's are technically CD releases of the original games than the slightly higher fidelity remastered versions I. The mobile versions, but it still sounds above S3&K which was just Genesis-ripped than remastered, it's weird.

Origins as a collection is mostly fine in my opinion. I'm just hoping they fix Marble Garden's numerous issues and 3K's general collision issues. Not being able to jump off the pillars for the alternate pathways always bothers me. Same for not being able to use Carnival Night's shortcuts or access a few special rings throughout 3K. The collection overall has audio issues, the drop dash feels awful in 1/2/CD, and the characters' hurtboxes are too big, but I highly doubt SEGA cares enough to fix those issues.

By the 2000s, the modern makeover for the whole cast might've made wonders on fans old and new.
Nowadays, many people look at the classic designs and find them quite endearing and precious.
The fact most issues people may have with the franchise may derive from modern games might not help much the case.

So, if nowadays they decide to tread back on some characters' appearance, to make them closer to their classic design...

Some physical copies are out in the wild, and takedowns are ensuing on footage. You want any idea of an early preview, you better keep an eye out.
