It is pretty minor, but then it makes you wonder why nobody took the few minutes out of their day to fix the issue. It's really not that hard to fix.

By itself that's weak, but when Sonic Origins is filled with small issues that they still mostly haven't taken the time to fix, it makes the whole thing feel a bit half-assed.

You wouldn't think it would be hard to include the sharp and soft CRT shaders featured in Mania, either. I can't think of another retro collection or re-release that doesn't offer a CRT filter option, even a poorly implemented one. Mania's shaders were well-made and have even been ported for use in other emulators and shader programs, yet they're nowhere to be seen in Origins, or at least the pre-Plus version.

I'm going to say not having the mania filters (and sharp look) is on sega and not anyone else working on these collections, i'm also going to point blame at using whatever engine it is for the performance heavy menu screens that are beyond fluff with hardly any options for each game.

    Sega are so annoying.

Ya many of this games problems come from it being shoved in the hedgehog engine for no good reason other than dioramas.

Yeah like it took modders no time to fix the blur for a collection that's otherwise notoriously stalled a bit on the mod scene last time I checked, but a year later and Sonic Team seemingly can't do an easy fix? How many other sprite games/rereleases in the last few years have had such blur? It's one thing for them to be adamant on weird decisions in what's already a part of the released game like Lives/Coins, the loop-less Japanese SCD soundtrack and save system/UI, or minor inconsistencies between games, but if there was one tiny thing they could fix to make the thing they're adding to and selling to people the best it could look, wouldn't they move heaven and earth to do it?

My guess is that as it's something on Sonic Team's end with the RSDK inside the Hedgehog Engine or whatever rather than something inside the game Headcannon could fix, trying to figure out the RSDK shading scalers or importing Mania's filters or whatever is just too out of their depth, like a normal Drop Dash for S1/SCD/S2 was (which I wonder is fixed or not; HC could probably do it, but maybe ST sees it as part of the existing game and its MD&R records, though they're technically antiquating that anyway with SCD's level design changes). Could've at least asked HC about it, not sure if there's a language barrier or confusion there in trying to work out another's code or whatever. Again, unless by some miracle it actually is a toggle buried in the options that they're just not using in the promotional material.

And this is the team allegedly making an entire Sonic game with the Retro Engine? Sounds like they couldn't make a proof-of-concept on their own without HC's help. Well, at least SCD's Timer bug is fixed, in no doubt because Headcannon did it while ST didn't even bring down the volume of SCD's cutscenes to match that of the gameplay.

I should remind everyone that the buzz about ST making a whole retro engine game is complete rumor, and mostly sourced from some of the least-reliable "leakers" ever.

Not to mention that is hardly makes any sense. If SEGA were "practicing" with the Retro Engine via Origins, why would they outsource S3K to Headcannon instead of get the practice of making a whole game themselves? All they did with 1, 2 and CD was add in a bunch of sloppy menus and drop dash that's broken in several ways.

I think I've heard it's something Retro Engine related that's just made worse by SEGA's implementation of RSDK into the Hedgehog Engine, Sonic Mania also has some kind of filtering issue(?) that makes it look blurrier at higher scaling options, even with the 'clean' filter enabled. I just think it's weird they haven't noticed and fixed it yet in Origins Plus, especially since it was one complaint I kept hearing about over and over again at the time of Origins' original release.

I find it ridiculous that the original game shipped with a bilinear filter that could not be turned off unless someone uses mods, like I did with this video. I really hope Sonic Origins Plus gives people the same filter options people had with Sonic Mania, along with the ability to view the gameplay with perfect square pixels. I don't like that the pixels are stretched in full screen mode for both Sonic Mania and Sonic Origins, but at least Sonic Mania gave people the option to play the game with perfect pixels in window mode. I don't know of any mod for Sonic Origins that allows me to play the game with perfect square pixels. The aspect ratio for this video I uploaded back in July is a perfect example of what aspect ratio I want for Sonic Origins Plus.

In comparison, the pixels are stretched for every video I made about Sonic Origins.

Didn’t Sonic Team also add the challenge missions to Origins? Regardless, I absolutely agree that these rumors should be taken with a heavy grain of salt. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Sega is working on a new 2D Sonic but I find many other details about this “leak” to be… hard to believe

Yup, Sonic Team handled every additional mode, Headcannon just making S3&K/Blue Sphere pre-Plus.

After that whole accidentally using like 4 Sonic 3 Complete sprites as a base stink? No, they’re not going to use your sprites.

What the actual... Please tell me this isn't the case on Switch too. If it is, it'll seriously make me rethink whether to bother getting the physical version at all at this point.

The entire point of this release is to give it a physical edition that bundles in the DLC - if all you're actually getting on the disc/cart is base Origins, they should at least advertise it as such, with a sticker or iris-out saying the DLC is also included in the box. Anything else is just being intentionally disingenuous.

Side note; I'm getting sick of so-called "physical releases" that either don't include all of the advertised content on the disc/cart, or worse, just include a game download code in the box. I've been avoiding both like the plague, it's such a scummy practice. If you're not able to provide a proper physical release with all of the advertised content on the actual physical product, then honestly, please don't even bother.

It's very strange that they did this.

I'm guessing they wanted to still be developing the Plus content until the very last minute. And so this way, the base game can go out for printing, while they still work on Plus.

Although given Sega's history of QC, even if the physical copy had everything, you'd still need a download for the inevitable patch fixes :(. Maybe they should have pushed back the physical release until later in the year (that way it could have everything, including the bug fixes).

Some of those bug fixes may derive from player feedback post-release, I guess?

I don't see the problem with the Plus content coming as DLC content, as long as physical buyers have a way to get it for free.
