I do think it's interesting sometimes to interpret scenes in ways you and the rest of the time didn't intend mind. Like in Sonic Origins, I know you've said before you and the team didn't intend Sonic to throw the bully foxes into a mess when he ran past them, but I've always liked to interpret the scene that way and actually prefer doing so over it being an accident.

Saw the movie Thursday night. Easily the best of the three. That shit ruled.

Saw this last night; whoever were involved with working The Last Scene into the ending scenes thank you so much. Love that track in SA2, and hearing it in the ending just tied the whole movie together so well. I definitely need to get the blu-ray when that releases too, so many references I couldn't catch on the first viewing.

By the way, is the Metal Sonic army grey?
Like, I keep seeing different recordings of the scene, and they sometimes seem to either be grey with a blue leader, or all of them are blue. It's kinda hard to tell with the blue night lighting, and I couldn't really process it in the moment, on top of my screening seeming to be particularly dark.

In the theater, I didn't even notice their color.

I think they're probably blue and it was the dark lighting and red lights that are making them seem like different colors.

    Seen it.

So anyone else actually surprised that they killed of Robotnik? I did not expect that. When was the last time a kids movie ended that way?

In that way, it actually succeeded in replicating the SA2 experience in killing off a character in a more gray plot, except for this they killed off two but kept Shadow alive. In all honesty, I would liked some more sincere moments for Ivo and Gerald...one where Ivo may actually gives his respect for Sonic and is genuinely sad or something, and where Gerald is seriously grieving about the world. It felt rushed in that regard.

Rewatching the video I took of the scene, they do appear to be desaturated in color compared to the first one, so I would think so.

Also, have not seen anyone mention the freeze-frame bonus of the moon being cut in two when you-know-who appears in front of it. ;>

My eyes in the theater said there was one full color and a bunch of silver clones.

That is always a fascinating part of the process. But if someone looks at that picture and reads it as cowering in fear, I think we're all just SOL.

    So...

I do not think we've seen the last of...

Metal Sonic. I know Amy beat him, but I'm sure he could easily be rebuilt stronger and more durable. Using an army of Metallix does not seem like it'd be done as a one off joke.

I also was not nearly as bothered by it when I watched it with an audience. The reaction to Amy might have been the biggest cheer in our theater...

Metal Sonic was clearly set up as the next big villain of 4. idk why anyone would assume that Amy completely took him out in that 1 scene.

  12. Metal Sonic hasn't really had a great reputation as of late, so being an army of literal Cannon fodder isn't making the best first impression.

Who knows, if they pull out Neo or Overlord it might be fine.

Was not expecting the Brotherhood of Metallix in that stinger.

I'm expecting the next one to be a sort of mash between Sonic the Hedgehog CD and Sonic Heroes: G.U.N. develop Metal Sonic using Sonic's quill, Metal Sonic goes full Skynet and hijacks Robotnik's mechs since Robotnik is dead, expands outside of the Earth with Rings, then Amy uses the Time Stones to go back and stop it, with some following behind to stop her/accelerate their own take over.

Otherwise, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) was great, though the humour overstayed a few times...

I can't say for sure since I have no insight into the behind-the-scenes details, but I don't think the plan for this movie was to definitively kill off Robotnik.

It's a mix of A: ending the movie similarly to the games, where Eggman often gets caught in situations that should kill him but don't, and B: leaving the door open in case Carrey doesn't return, allowing them to retire the character or provide an excuse for a different look or behavior in case of a recast.

So, I'm on team 'these metals belong to him (or an alternate version of him from another timeline) and his next plan.

  16. I genuinely liked how they made GUN an antagonistic force again with Walter's death. I'm fine with Sonic working with them, but having a non-Eggman antagonist in case Carey really does decide to call it quits, is a pretty good idea.

And unlike the neutral position the cast have towards them in the games, Sonic & Shadow have legitimate reasons to hate the organization and vice versa given Rockwell is racists against them.

I feel like GUN as an antagonist was executed a little awkwardly in Sonic 3. Like why couldn't Team Sonic hang around for a second or 2 to explain what happened to Rockwell, why didn't Rockwell just ask why Sonic had the first Eclipse Cannon key? Maybe I'm just thinking about it too hard.

Loved it. It's a shockingly earnest adaptation of SA2 and feels aggressively proud of its origin.

I was surprised how much Gerald landed for me. Naturally, it's a very different take on the character but I really enjoyed it. We all knew Shadow would be a delight and I'm so glad he stuck the landing, but I wasn't expecting him to he have some comedic moments too. I also really love how, without Gerald's tampering, we have a Shadow who wants to destroy the earth solely for revenge, not because Maria wanted it. There's a really great theme of grief and how you deal with it, and I think it's a great take on the character. Shadow knows it's not what Maria wants, but until Sonic comes along and proves him wrong, he doesn't have the strength to let go.

All the scenes with Maria made me tear up and I think I was sobbing for about 40% of the film's run time! What a fantastic film!

Walters hands Sonic the key and tells him he's the only one he can trust. Combine that with Shadow's distrust because of their GUN association. Not hard to see why they shouldn't he be hanging around GUN.

Yeah, that line makes me think G.U.N. is corrupt and Walters was literally the only one keeping them from going full Trask Industries on Sonic and co, with the attempted capture in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) simply an appeasement to those elements to prevent an ousting.
