  1. Shockingly good movie and much better than the first two. I was super tired from work, and I still moved closer to the screen for the Super Sonic/Super Shadow fight. Funny how that's happened in every other media except the games by this point.

I'll elaborate more when I get home.

saw it tonight, loved it. One thing that really caught me off guard, was the callback to Spinball with
Gerald using the nanobots to make him scorpion like

I honestly thought that too. I hope it was intentional and not a coincidence.

This movie just really makes me want a proper Dragon Ball movie. The speed and action in the 3rd act at times could be compared to Goku and Frieza's battle on Namek, and what essentially was a beam struggle with the eclipse canon was just the perfect finisher.

The first pre-movie trailer had Disney's Elio trailer with a date stamp of 'Spring, 2024'. The audience began to murmur as a kid began snoring. It was very confusing.

But, there was a surprising lack of pre-movie trailers overall and it got straight to the movie which was very pleasing.

I enjoyed most of it. It was outré in its way of tying lore together in a weird mesh with this universe. But, Jim Carrey. Was insane. One of his best movies in my opinion. The meta humour was very distracting but so wild in its usage that it became almost surreal (& I kind of dig surrealism in cinema).

It is so westernised compared to what I am used to with the games, however. I am disappointed Shadow and Sonic became 'bros' or whatever. I thought that was kind of lame. It can almost be excused here because it does make sensewith the plot but those vapid family moments are still present but maybe slightlymore tolerable here.

Good movie, glad I didn’t get spoiled going in. My only real gripe is, Gerald I think could’ve been a bit uhh, better? Not sure how to describe what I’m thinking but he just didn’t seem very interesting compared to his past portrayals. Also he’s 110/112? Idk that seemed weird that nobody took the life juice away from him, and nobody at gun asked how he’s still moving around at that age. Other than that, amazing film. Glad Tyson got to be a co-producer as well, very much deserved credit. Looking forward to the future installments. Personally a 9/10 kids film.

Honestly in the moment it doesn't really feel like Shadow and Sonic "became bros" just moments of emotionally boosting each other so they can take down the threat at hand. I'd say it'd be better to wait and see where their relationship goes down the road in this regard.

Tom and Maddie's disguise suits use a UI save sound effect from Sonic 06. It's super distinct. Nice.

They might've known. If you have a super-genius designing super-weapons for you, why wouldn't you want him to live forever?

Loved the movie! I certainly soy-faced at the screen more than once. It took everything I liked about the first two movies and multiplied it by 3.

Different strokes for different folks, but I loved the comedy elements. I still giggle thinking about how Gerald went.

The movie did a really good job of balancing real-feeling stakes, comedy, and action, I thought. TONS of fun! Can't wait to see it again.

I gotta admit that while Gerald's death was super anti-climactic it was equally funny lol

What helps sell it is Eggman's super cheesy reaction right after, lol.

Gerald is the most different in this movie compared to any other character, even Sonic himself. There is nothing of the guy from the games here except the motivation to kill the planet. He's basically just another Carreybotnik with some "I'm old" jokes added in...but I enjoyed him anyway, and this gave them the freedom to not be tied to any particular mold. So with all of that in mind, getting stabbed in the butt and flying into a bug zapper might as well have been what happened. It was silly and intentionally underwhelming and it's exactly what this version of the character deserved.

I know within SA2 specifically, the reason he's cool with essentially murdering the entire planet is because he's got amnesia and is being mislead by false memories, but since then they've been making it pretty clear that Shadow is still blinded by grief and rage beyond his initial appearance. They've been doing a really good job of showing how much Maria's death hurt Shadow within the games and extended media. The little scene in Dark Brotherhood where Shadow starts to have a panic attack while he's sitting there remembering Maria is excellent. They show that even before she dies, he's furious at himself for not being able to save her. Shadow's gotta be the most emotive character in the whole series, dude just needs a hug.

What made it funny for me is how uneventful it is, haha. It's a death that should have been pretty brutal all things considered, and the way he died you'd expect grand epic music, dramatic shots, perhaps him yelling in anger, maybe a slow dramatic melting like the one in Star Wars Episode 3. Instead he sizzles away with all the pomp and pizazz of a mosquito hitting a bug zapper without even a music crecendo. It's a lot like the joke where Sonic is freaking out but Knuckles is facing the wrong direction, so he pauses, asks him to move, then restarts his speech with the music pausing and waiting for Knuckles to move before continuing. The movie using non-diegetic material to respond (or not respond) to what it is going on.

When I read "the star of the franchise is cowering in fear", I expected something a little more... cowering in fear. He's standing there with a slightly worried expression.

I'm taken aback by how *genuinely funny* this movie is. There's a couple groaners, but for the most part the humor was on point. Jim Carrey's dynamic as both Robotniks was handled very well, and the amount of interaction they have with each other is somewhat impressive. Personally I thought Jim's performance in Sonic 2 was a step down, so it's great to see him hamming it up even more for this.

I really enjoyed the gag with Wade. It didn't occur to me that the fearsome warrior Knuckles was talking about was Wade, and then it cuts to him using the emerald as a hockey puck and it just took me the fuck out.

The sonic series has been genuinely funny since the beginning, IMO. One of the funniest gags is in Knuckles when he's in the containment box and going off to the woman about how sweet it'll be to grind her bones into dust, and she asks if he's done and he immediately yells "NO!" then goes quiet because he actually was done, he just reflexively wanted to antagonize her lol. Dumb comedy like that makes me laugh

He's not cowering in fear at all. He's ready to throw hands and gets knocked off his feet.
