    God, I hope not:
Turning Amy into a totally different character would be the worst way to handle her, imo. Her game personality has so much for them to work with. You don't have to turn her into Sally 2.0. if you wanna get rid of/tone down her crush on Sonic.

I was under the impression that it was the quill slowing or halting his aging a la Green Mile.

Though like I said in my previous post there are lot of questions left in Shadow's past/lore that are most likely going to be answered in the Shadow and Rockwell (?) spinoff.

The quill is probably meant to be the reason, but even that's hard to accept given that this dude then has to manage to hide it while under heavy supervision for years and years.

That reminds me: does the movie even allude to how Gerald managed to escape at all?

Right, I was thinking that we have now established a formula where [Highly-compensated CGI celebrity voice actor character] gets the spinoff, but budget concerns require that they instead get paired with [less expensive actor's side character] who spends almost all of the time on screen, while our CGI hero finds reasons to be put off screen. I was thinking Shadow + Stone, but Shadow + Rockwell makes sense too. I am waiting for Tails + Rachel or Tails + Stone, that would be pretty fun too.

Not only that, they didn't really establish how Gerald nudged Shadow awake.

He "hacked" shadow awake, during the opening scene they show the machine which keeps him asleep and the eggman logo starts popping up over the screen as he's waking up. The presumption is Gerald Robotnik remotely shut down whatever machine was keeping him sedated.

Gerald just sauntering up is weird, though. Like... where was he? How did he escape? Why was he left alive?

I absolutely loved his death though, lol. Got a huge laugh out of me.

He made a deal with Gun by trading the Eclipse Cannon for either his life or freedom. I forgot the exact line. Why they honored that deal and kept him alive/freedom is another question I don't have an answer to.

Guess I have no choice but to watch the film again, in XD.

Yeah he hacked GUN and freed Shadow. Seems they kept him alive to keep building weapons for them, and somewhere along the way Ivo also started working with the military.

But yeah, how he escaped is a mystery. Or I think because when he was exposition dumping the guy next to me decided to go to the bathroom so I got distracted for a bit.

I also randomly remembered, wasn't there some London set leaks (not the night ones) where they were filming a vehicle chase through the city? I thought that was going to be the "Escape from the City" equivalent sequence.

Or am I confusing them with the San Francisco set photos from the first one? Also, I just realized how SF was left out despite the imagery from it in the game.

I kinda just can't accept that GUN would let Gerald loose after everything they did to him, just for cooperating on making a world-ending weapon. Actually... ESPECIALLY for making them a world-ending weapon. Like... what?

I remember being super confused about that "in exchange for my freedom" line while Gerald was standing in front of his prison wall blueprints in a red jumpsuit. If he really did get cleared to leave for that I'm even more confused now.

Sonic 3 makes it sound like there are people within GUN that are up to no good, like Director Rockwell. I'm just willing to blindly accept that this corrupt side of GUN accepted the deal and decided to let Gerald go incase they need him in the future.

Also, shout outs to Shadow and latinas.

I thought it was the other way around.

Commander Walters seemed to not being fully onboard with what happened and definitely did not want Maria to get hurt/died, so I could see him keeping Gerald around as he went up the ranks and even being okay with him gaining his freedom.

I thought Knuckles made it pretty clear that GUN are grey at best and most likely are going to be portrayed as antagonists most of the time. Obviously if Black Doom shows up then that'll change.

I think it's pretty clear Sonic 4 is going to be an adaptation of Sonic Heroes, though. Its the actual follow up to Sonic Adventure 2, is basically the next chapter in Shadow's overarching story, and the plot basically revolves around Metal Sonic trying to take over for Robotnik. It'd be the perfect follow up, even if I don't particularly like Sonic Heroes that much. On the upside, kids will definitely know who Metal Overlord is now thanks to Shadow Generations making it one of the best boss fights of the series. Metal Sonic might actually get a glow up of hype after Shadow Gens/Sonic 3.

So here are my spoiler filled notes
    - Keanu sounded way better in the full movie compared to the trailers and the Shadow Gens level. Really glad it turned out he wasn't half-assing it.
    - Pacing could've been a little better. 1st act felt way too quick while the 2nd and 3rd acts felt a bit too long, I wish we could establish things a little more. Granted, I'm not gonna complain that we got to see a lot more of Super Sonic and Shadow than I think most had expected.
    - The human to Sonic character ratio was perfect. And the humans were only there when they absolutely needed to be.
    - The maturity in writing was definitely raised compared to the first 2 movies. Granted this is a Sonic movie, so there are childish jokes, but they don't overstay their welcome and there's not too many of them.
    - It's funny that the Japanese subtitle is Tokyo Mission when they're in Tokyo for maybe 10 minutes, lol.
    - I really appreciate that they went out of their way to make the flashback scenes with Maria actually look like they took place in the 1970s, it does a much better job at establishing how long ago it was compared to SA2 where they just kind of filter on everything despite the advanced tech of the ARK.
    - Maria's relationship with Shadow was explored so much better than the games ever have and actually gave me a reason to be sad about Maria's death and why Shadow and Gerald are so fuelled by revenge (Well Shadow more so than Gerald)
    - In the scene where everyone's pinned to the floor in the GUN headquarters and Eggman says "I can't believe this" and Gerald responding "I know, a woman in the military!" made me burst out laughing super hard.
    - Tom's "death" actually moved me a lot, and the amount of anger Sonic portrayed had me actually thinking this movie was going to do the unthinkable and dig out Dark Sonic, would've been cool if they did, but alas. Also, it was super lame that it turned out he was fine. I think Tom actually dying would do a lot to help evolve Sonic's character and finally ditch the human family aspect of it. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Sonic 4 further minimizes their involvement.
    - I really liked Super Sonic and Shadow fighting, that was cool as hell.
    - It shocked me how the movie straight up states that Gerald and Shadow's revenge not only involves the destruction of Earth, but also serving as a suicide mission. Shadow actually asking Super Sonic to kill him was crazy. And does a great job emphasizing that without Maria, they really have nothing to live for.
    - I wish Live and Learn with lyrics played for longer. The cuts between Super Sonic and Shadow fighting GUN bots and the Robotniks fighting honestly brought down that part of the movie for me.
    - I was kind of hoping that in Eggman's final speech to Stone that he'd reference The Truman Show as a final sendoff to Jim Carrey's career, especially seeing as he already referenced The Grinch earlier in the movie. Although I guess that would've been corny in such an emotional moment, and I think what they did was just as good.
    - I now realize that I had accidentally seen a couple seconds of the mid-credits scene on Twitter early, luckily I was stoned so it didn't register until I saw it again sober, lol.
    - I am super intrigued where things are going to go with the Metal Sonic army. I don't think it'll be a Sonic Heroes adaptation, but we'll have to wait and see.
    - Amy looks really cute!
    - I wish the 2nd post credits scene didn't reveal Shadow was alive. I mean, we all knew he was going to be fine, but I think it would've been nice to have that uncertainty for the next 2 years.

Also, if Tyson happens to be seeing this, is there an embargo on sharing concept art? When, or should, we expect to see it? I'm a massive sucker for behind the scenes content and I'm especially interested in seeing art of Metal Sonic and Amy in full if that exists, and all the lovely stuff the team made in general.

I like that the image of Shadow and Maria sitting next to each other holding hands in the flowers is now an accepted part of Shadow's backstory. There's a similar shot in the Shadow anime that goes even cuter and into more detail, with Shadow falling asleep next to Maria and her covering him with a blanket. The multimedia adaptations really fleshed Maria's character out.

I was expecting Amy to be revealed in the mid-credits scene, but NOT AN ARMY OF METAL SONICS!

Also, I have to give praise to how Shadow's backstory was adapted to the movie universe. A number of things had to change (e.g., secret lab planetside, Shadow is an alien rather than artificial, Maria is a healthy child, and Shadow is blinded by grief and rage rather than brainwashed), but the most critical elements were preserved (the deep, sibling-like relationship between Shadow and Maria). They weren't afraid to make things even more tragic in a few elements (Maria is killed instantly in an explosion, and Shadow is cruelly mistreated in the aftermath before being put into stasis). The emotional scene with Shadow and Maria under the stars was easily one of my favorite moments in the entire film.

There is also a line in the Knuckles miniseries which seems to suggest that Shadow and Maria might have gone on a escapade to Reno at some point. Perhaps material for another miniseries?

Honestly with how they handled Shadow's and Maria's relationship in Sonic 3 I am much less offended by the idea of Shadow going bowling which is a sentence I never thought I'd say.
