Just got home from seeing it with my niece; to me half the fun of the Sonic movies has been seeing the audience reaction, and especially the reactions of family and friends I'm with. She loved it, saying she found the antics of the Robotniks to be the funniest part of the movie. Gotta agree with her, their family banter is show-stealing, as expected from Jim Carrey.

As for my opinion, I think the movie does a good job at doing its own thing with Shadow's backstory, while not straying too far from the source material and preserving the tragedy of his character. I'm used to the movies doing their own thing at this point, and I find it interesting to see what they do differently from the games, rather than expecting a 1:1 cinematic adaptation of the games. If my worst nitpick about the movie is
Biolizard was reduced to a gag in an old Godzilla parody on TV rather than involved in the climax in some way
then I would say I came out pretty content. I think overall, any grievances I have with the movie boil down to personal taste and minor nitpicks that are more or less similar sentiments expressed already throughout the thread, so I don't really feel the need to ramble about them.

Overall, I think this is a solid entry into the film franchise and I think young fans who enjoyed the first two movies will enjoy this one just as much.

    Loved it.

It's not a perfect film, but as a fan of both Sonic, Jim Carrey, and 90s films in general, it was perfect for me.

Day 1 SA2 Dreamcast buyer here. I'm very happy with it.

I had a great time! It's impossible for me to judge the movie on any objective level, but wow was it satisfying to see these characters do their thing in this one. It felt like there was a lot of respect for the source material, and finally more music from the games!

The Eggmen were so goofy in a real Saturday morning cartoon way that I personally enjoyed. I can see some theoretical griping that Shadow's story tone might feel mismatched against Jim Carrey dancing with himself, but I'm here for it.

Team Sonic felt like themselves, the action was fun, and the pacing was quick. Really good stuff and another step up compared to the last two.

There's a lot more to gush about honestly but I'm gonna sleep on it.

Knuckles being the contingency plan rocked.

Knuckles was the MVP of the movie.

The production team should really reconsider and go all out on Knuckles.

Tbh the end credits scene should've been them hinting at more Knuckles.

Actually, a question about the OST

Where does Escape from the City play during the movie? I saw it in the credits but don't remember hearing it at all.

Check out G.U.N. Control on the OST. It plays when Sonic is making his run up on GUN HQ, there's just a lot of sound effect and dialogue over it in the actual movie.
Actually, a surprising omission from the soundtrack seems to be the Eggman theme that plays during the Eclipse Cannon launch? At least, it's not where I thought it would be. I might be missing it somewhere.

Fun movie, I think I liked Sonic 2 more because the seige of Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 2 was the closest the movies have come to capturing what I love about the games. BUT as a long time sonic fan, the single thing that geeked me out the most and was bar none the highlight of the entire movie came in the credits. Not the after-credits scene, but the actual credits themselves.

CLASSIC FUCKING SHADOW?! After all these years, they *FINALLY* give us Classic Shadow and it's in the damn Sonic movie! Ha!

    Also...

Shadow not using Chaos Control even once or saying the words is pretty lame, considering that's THE shadow power

The Chaos Emeralds not even being mentioned at all was weird too- only the Master Emerald got mentioned, despite the others being in there. Also, I thought the Chaos Emeralds scattered after Sonic 2...? Why are they back in the Master Emerald with no explanation?

I still can't believe we got
    Classic Shadow
    in a movie instead of
Shadow Generations, a game that is a sequel to the game that introduced the concept of Classic Sonic itself

    Funny stuff.

    also
Gerald Robotnik's death was fucking hilarious

It should have been brutal considering the actual circumstances, but how it was just a tiny sizzle and smoke with no build up or tension or screaming made it so funny lol

So there's.... a reference to another character that not many people have spotted....

During the Flashback sequences where we briefly see Gerald being let out of his cell,
on the walls is a diagram of the E-Series robot Zeta in his boss form.

That's E.G.G.M.A.N. but Theme of Dr. Eggman was also credited (I thought they meant SA1 but I suppose Sonic 06?)

Nice find! I'll have to look next time I watch. It's a bit interesting that there wasn't some kind of GUN-related development at the end of the film like 1, 2 & Knuckles so I wonder if they'll play a prominent role in Sonic 4.

Sonic 4 predictions? Probably crazy theory crafting but:

One thing I've been certain of since Sonic 2, and am continuing to bet is that
    Agent Stone becomes Egg-Robo
    .

Another element: now that we've seen
Metal Sonic and a bunch of other Metal Sonics get thwacked by Amy
    , my guess is that
Egg-Robo appears to be responsible for this until we find out later that Eggman was actually pulling the strings working on his own Space Station Ark (AKA Death Egg).

He used the spines from Sonic and Shadow and built Metal Sonic and designed him like DC's Doomsday or Gemerl, killing him over and over again to collect battle data and make him stronger. Over time, Metal becomes sentient and grows resentful of Eggman and during a battle with the heroes, turns against Eggman and destroys Egg-Robo (who then is revealed to be Stone piloting it)

Metal discovers powers to assimilate matter, etc and quickly becomes out of control and ultimately serves a Perfect Chaos / Metal Overlord finale. Death Egg is scuttled but not destroyed, leaving it a thread for a Sonic 5. Probably too many things in one bag...

I think it's that, and more:
Amy taking on the Sally Acorn role. Maybe she and Silver are from a timeline where Eggman won
