I can see them going with Sonic Boom since that song's style may appeal more to the generic Western audience. But hey, they could surprise us.

If they do the time travel thing, I want the time machine/device/whatever to play the "PAST!" and "FUTURE!" sound effects from the game when those are selected/activated.

Honestly? As long they reference the JAPANESE Stardust Speedway theme (either Presente or "B" Mix), I'm fine.

Oh man, the soundtrack for Sonic 4 is going to hurt my little heart if they keep the current direction. If they do take cues, inspiration, or imagery from CD like they did with SA2, there are expectations that they'll use certain music from it—and to me, it's the perfect Sonic soundtrack in the series.

I'm going to be that person, but I don't think the soundtrack of this movie really improves much from 1 and 2, even if they used songs like "Live & Learn" or "The Last Scene."

I'm really not sure what the reasoning is from Fowler and Junkie XL for going in this direction, but it's just not working for me.

I know everyone always points out that they want something like what Mario did, but I would be happy if they even went in a Detective Pikachu direction.

Like Sonic, Detective Pikachu doesn’t really use much from the games or anime, and the majority of it is original.

But man, did Henry Jackman find a balance to make both a traditional movie soundtrack and songs that sound like they could've come straight out of the games—especially the early gens.

Ryme City is a great example, since if you've played enough Pokémon games, you'll catch some references from them, but if you're familiar with Jackman's past works, you'll hear influences from those too.

There's really nothing from the Sonic movie soundtracks (other than the few game tracks they do use) that I can point to and say, "Damn, that sounds like Sonic."

And the thing is, Junkie XL is amazing at making soundtracks. Recently, I loved his work in Furiosa. But again, I just think the direction they're going for is not clicking for me.

The OVA is another great example of how you don't have to rely on established music to capture the sound of a franchise. A lot of 90s OVAs had that style of music, but Mitsuhiro Tada managed to make it sound like it could come straight out of a Sonic game but work for animation.

Like I said before I was really disappointed with how they used Live and Learn. It was pretty much my only problem with the movie. So as much as it pains to say it I doubt they’re gonna use any existing Sonic music in a significant way. For whatever weird reason they don’t want to.

Of course there’s a lot of great music besides Live and Learn but it was the perfect song from a storyline standpoint and audience standpoint. I don’t know if other Sonic songs have gained that much broad appeal.

They used, it sounded like, the full song for Wouldn’t it be Nice?, End of the Line and Galvanize...so why not SA2’s main theme which signifies grief, growth and Shadow changing sides?

Even with permission it’s probably safe to assume they’d just do snippets of Sonic Boom, What I’m Made Of or Open Your Heart (if they ever do Chaos).

S3's soundtrack wasn't that big of an improvement over the other 2 even with the few game tracks they tossed in. Whenever they did use the game tracks they hurried them off quickly. Only The Last Scene really got time to breathe. Just a subpar score overall. I really don't know why Junkie keeps striking out here. He doesn't suck. Maybe he hates Sonic and is biding his time until they start hiring for Streets of Rage.

Junkie XL is an awesome producer, I'm sure he's been told to stick to a particular sound, which is this pseudo epic symphonic score, instead of going for his trademark soundscapes. You'd definitely notice if a musician hated their job...

That's based on Cosmic Eternity, I feel like they sort of have to.

Neither. They will use a generic blockbuster orchestral piece.

I'm more worried that they're going to make two movies and call them "Sonic 4 Part 1" and "Sonic 4 Part 2".

Sadly, I'm only half joking, since this actually seems to be a thing for some reason, see the Avengers, Harry Potter, Mission Impossible, the Fast and the Furious...

They started getting scared of calling them that for a while now. The Harry Potter example is over 15 years ago. That started a craze among the YA adaptions but it died down once peple got sick of them.

Part 2 will come out any day now

Avengers Infinity War Part 2 was renamed to Endgame. Dead Reckoning Part 2 was renamed to Final Reckoning. Fast X Part 2 is still a year away, plenty of time to rebrand. Wicked is split into two parts but the main marketing made sure not tell tell you that part.

I really don't see there ever being need for any Sonic movie to be so big they gotta make 2 of them. But hey, we gotta keep the Sonic 4 Episode 1 & 2 jokes going for another 2 years.

Not been on here for ages, and I've not thoroughly read through the comments, but has anyone mentioned the deleted scene which one of them shows that Robotnik actually survived at the end? He'd broken every single bone in his body, and was being looked after by Agent Stone

Also, there are some very interesting comparisons between Sonic 3 and the Zack Snyder films:

I know they stopped doing that in name, but they're still doing that in spirit. Anyway, as I said, and as you also mentioned, it was mainly a joke.

That's showing how he survived the events of Sonic 2 - he's in the rubble of the giant mech there.

Robotnik as a Twitch streamer makes a lot more sense than I want it to.

One of the mentions online is this piece - Robotnik's playlist is essentially a list of songs from Samba De Amigo.

    upload_2025-1-27_19-50-36.png

    • A cover of "La Bamba" by Ritchie Valens
    • "Livin' la Vida Loca" by Ricky Martin
    • "Macarena" by Los del Río
    • "Mas Que Nada" by Jorge Ben
    • "Samba de Janeiro" by Bellini
    • A cover of "Take on Me" by Reel Big Fish
    • "Tequila" by The Champs
    • "The Cup of Life" by Ricky Martin
However, the image there is the best I can find online. Anyone happen to have the 4K and be able to get a better look at it?

It also contextualises that final contact with Stone: "This is Dr. Ivo Robotnik, dedicating my final livestream to one very special henchman!"

Didn't see a scene showing where he picked it up, though, I assume he did when he's on the crab with Gerald before that since, y'know...

Those Livestream deleted scenes have gotta be the most "how do you do fellow kids" things ever considered for this series. I've never heard any Twitch streamer talk like that in my life. I'd say it's a good thing they didn't go with that and saved themselves some embarrassing moments but the rest of the movie still exists, so...

+ - I anticipate all the complaints that I'm expressing any frustration of any kind for this perfect movie that is perfect

I feel like those livestream bits would have been better if it established that he was using an egg drone to film them (seriously, I'm just wondering what the camera is) and if the sponsor segments weren't so over-edited. Real livestreams don't really have effects like that.

There are other parts of the execution I don't love (Fortnite mentioned), but I think the concept of Eggman streaming his plan for world domination and having an energy drink sponsor is a funny idea.

But yeah, as they are? Probably for the best they were removed from the film. Only scenes I wish they kept really was the GUN Soldier wanting a selfie with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles poorly disguised as Chao, and the Robotniks being invisible but putting the flags over their heads, and the soldiers totally not seeing them. Both made me chuckle.

It's a tiny egg recording him in the final film. I'm assuming they would have been in those cut scenes had their effects been fully finished.

How many times are you going to link that? Not to mention that it's annoying to have posts with just a link to Twitter.
