But how does the bowling tournament fit in?

 

Clearly the Chaos Emeralds are a prize for winning the tournament.

 

In all seriousness I really like that idea. Emeralds could have been part of the trophy.

Just needed an explanation on how they ended up with the people who run the tournament.

 

That actually would've been pretty cool and funny.

 

7 Chaos bowling pins with the 3 corners being shards of the Master Emerald.

 

And would've tied Knuckles into the plot rather than just having him quietly step aside for the bowling plot.

Have a comedic showdown where Knuckles and Wade are playing doubles against the two agents for the Chaos Emeralds, then have the Buyer attack the tournament to claim them when they fail.

Damn it, the Chaos Emeralds as prizes thing started out as a joke, but now I'm really into the idea...

Ya that probably would have been good enough. I thought like someone finds them and sells them to a gem dealer and they’re hired to make a trophy.

 

I wonder if the next movie then might actually be about hunting them down to prevent a Bad Future? They could just introduce the Time Stones but having yet another set of macguffins to deal with might be too much for an average audience. Going with my theory that Sonic 4 is adapting CD of course.

 

So I've heard time travel was supposed to debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) according to leaked storyboards, to ease the concept in for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (2027). This would also kind of depend on if they keep time travel a factor, and I can't find said leak to verify the time travel thing, so take with a grain of salt.

 

If time travel is involved, I think the explosion might have sent EggCarrey either to the past or the future, creating either a dystopian future or something similar to the alternate timeline in Back to the Future 2.

Amy—and maybe even Silver—could go back to find Sonic and help fix things. If this happens, they’d probably need some kind of new technology for time travel—possibly something created by future Tails.

Alternatively, the explosion might have sent EggCarrey to another planet, one that provides access to time travel and is also where Amy (and maybe Silver?) lives. They’d team up with Sonic to resolve the situation.

There’s also the possibility that Sonic could get framed, like in '06, or mistaken for someone else, as in the brief presidential scene in the OVA. Amy might initially think he’s responsible for the metals and attempt to capture or stop him before realizing the truth. They could rework that idea for the next movie.

Honestly, though, for these movies, fan theories always go way over the top, while the actual plots tend to be much more straightforward.

It would be cool though if they took that BtF2 route and create a bad timeline version of Sonic movie 1 and even a little of 2.

Seems like something they would do and be less out there.

 

Or maybe the Brotherhood of Metallix (it's an army of Metal Sonics, you can not convince me to call them anything else) nabbed Robotnik before he exploded via the time travel: they pulled a Mega Man VII and when Robotnik didn't send a code activated and began their operations, resulting in time travel shenanigans.

 

It's almost certainly time travel - not one but multiple Metal Sonics in steel color is such an obvious homage to Terminator that they might as well have had Amy say "Come with me if you want to live."

And consider from the lore of the films themselves: no one had this capability during the plot of Sonic 3 and the post-credits is not long after the events of the film. How else did all these Metal Sonics get here but time travel?

 

Bit late what with Christmas and work but went to watch the movie with a couple of girls from work. Loved it from start to finish, so much better than the 2nd one and JIM was on his best form.
Loved the ending too with Metal Sonic which has always been my fav villain in the Sonic games even if he's not used enough.

 

Anyone else feel like a lot of Krysten Ritter's scenes were cut from the movie? She feels like a secondary antagonist that is mainly just not in the movie. She's against Team Sonic and claims the launch code at the base is a trap... for who? To catch Sonic and friends? Robotnik?

Just feels like we're missing a lot. Why did she feel she couldn't trust Team Sonic? Like, I just have a hunch that a lot of her scenes were cut. You don't get a famous actress like her and give her prominent billing and then barely use her.

 

She thought Sonic stole the first key-card, I think?
It did seem like an underdeveloped character.

 

If she did have cut material then its for the better. The movie was already feeling bloated with a huge cast. The antagonist side alone had you following 2 Eggmen, Shadow, GUN and guest starring Stone. Rockwell'a introduction and Walters' line about not trusting anyone but Sonic tells you all you need to know that Rockwell may be on the corrupt side. That's enough to set her up as a larger antagonist in the 4th film.

 

My theory is that movie 4 will focus more heavily on movie exclusive lore with Amy having some interesting facts and knowledge about Sonic's home planet and maybe even come from the same world.

If Carrey doesn't choose to return they could even have Metal Sonic set up as a contingency plan he set up to "finish his work" if he died before taking over the planet. It'll be interesting to see where they go with this.

Fair point. It does have a lot packed in.

 

Ritter had some good screen presence as a bitchy boss lady (classic Ritter), so I can see her coming back in an expanded role even if Jim comes back. Seems like the entire casts enjoy being in these films.

Not gonna lie, I like Natasha Rothwell and Shemar Moore in these films. Big fan of Getting Ultra Nasty

 

A shame that they're barely in the film. Was hoping to see more of them and Adam Pally in someway.
