I thought that was just a disguise so he could escape and tied into his appearance early in Sonic 3.

I like that the human characters had less of a focus in this one, even if that might’ve been due to the strike(?) or maybe that was part of the plan either way.

Don't think so. According to Pat Casey and Josh Miller, the script was finished before the Writers Strike began. Filming began sometime in the later half of 2023 (I'm seeing multiple dates), they just filmed anything that didn't require live actors first.

Great, so I think the balance is good now.

    That's actually a good question.

This past October, my family was watching Wednesday, and her friend in that (Emma Myers) has the tone of voice I wish game-version Amy had.

But that's game Amy, so I'm not sure how it would fit movie Amy. They might be looking for a bigger name, and she might not be a good voice actress.

Hailee Steinfeld was great in Spider-Man and Arcane. I could see her doing a more "warrior" Amy if that's the direction they take, but she could also do a more laid-back Amy as well. Ella Purnell would also be cool for the same reasons, but it seems she has sworn off video game adaptations for a while.

Karen Fukuhara is also a great voice actress and could be a good Amy. Using her Lady Himi voice from The Boy and the Heron could work well.

I don't mean this in a negative way, but a lot of the actors involved in the project seem to be in their late 30s to 50s.

If that's a deliberate choice to bring in more established talent who can get the job done, then my wildcard pick is Kirsten Dunst.

She was Kiki in the English dub of Kiki's Delivery Service. I can't find it, but recently a fan shared a recording of her sending a message as the character, and she can still pull off the tone she used in the movie.

Not only is she incredibly talented, but I think that voice would suit the character and could be adjusted to fit whatever direction they take with her.

getting my daily allowance of vitamin kk
Kristen Schaal has been an oddball choice from me. I could still kinda see it with where they seem to be taking the character.

Aubrey Plaza was rumored to be auditioning for Sonic 3, which if true I suppose could have been for Director Rockwell. As I recall the rumor included that she'd be a villain, and with Jim Carrey still not confirmed that led to some speculation that she'd be somehow replacing him.

But it got me thinking that she would be my #1 pick for Amy, hands down. Still is.

Seriously, I hear "evil" Amy in this. I can see it:

Finally got to see it earlier tonight. Lots of scattered back-and-forth thoughts, but just wanted to express how smart contextualizing the Biolizard as a kaiju film in-universe is. The Shadow and Maria scenes were already great, and that film being a lens for Shadows' struggle with his sense of self at the base is so good. I've just also always wanted Shadow to have some kind of introspection through the Biolizard's existence (maybe there was something in Battle or Archie I'm forgetting), did not expect to get that via this movie but I really appreciate the implementation here. I know everyone and their grandpap has been over this point already, but now I've gone over it as well. :colbert:

When that scene happened I knew it was Biover for us BioBros and it was a way to include it as an Easter egg.

Though I still had hope it was going to turn out that Gerald made the Biolizard to protect the station and that he used the movie as an inspiration for the creature.

I wonder if there's an earlier version of the script that had it in the plot or they always knew they were going without it.

I don’t think it really would have fit with the rest of the movie. The story was darker when it needed to be but a giant pulsating salamander monstrosity hooked up to a bunch of tubes might be kind of pushing it, not to mention I’m sure it would eat up a chunk of the budget better spent elsewhere. And let’s face it, the Biolizard only exists to give SA2 a final boss. I love the ugly little freak but if he was never introduced not much would change about the story.

When they were planning the raid on GUN HQ and talking about how no one knew what was in the last room, I briefly thought Biolizard would be in there. Instead it was Crazy Gadget.

I saw it again yesterday and

Yeah he says this verbatim. it doesn't quite explain, given that he also says that he was imprisoned for fifty years, whether he just immediately started doing shit when he got out or not and how kind of odd it is that GUN doesn't entirely seem to anticipate him messing with everything Shadow-related.

this one is an L from me, the convo literally goes "Commander Walters, I didn't know you were--" "Alive? I would rather die before letting that key get into the wrong hands." So I guess he's dead but his death has been covered up within the org? If it was known as an absolute certainty I don't understand how this ploy would've worked at all, especially given that GUN is already established to know of the existence of things like "ring tech" (why the vault's schematics have been wiped everywhere) so holograms wouldn't necessarily be out of the realm of possibility security-wise? You guard against teleportation but not illusions? How strange.

Also Shadow doesn't seem to be shocked that Walters is "alive" either, given that Gerald whom he is in close confidence with is the one who blew him up LOL

    Additionally,

    - Metal Sonic appears with a similar effect as the Terminator showing up - you know, the ball lightning one (being naked optional) that shows up in literally every movie, and Crash Bandicoot 3, when they want to indicate someone coming from another time. So my, probably wrong, guess is that Sonic 4 is going to involve time travel lol

    - I noticed in the credits that that creepy af Tom puppet is actually credited to the company that made the on-set puppets for the Sonic characters, which is cute. They finally got one of their works to show up in the actual movie!

    - It is insane seeing Kumatani's name on the big screen (Credited for Event: The Last Scene)

    - Live and Learn is stated to be written by Jun Senoue and Johnny Gioeli and performed by Crush 40. I think I might go look to see how it's credited in the game OSTs, though I don't own Multi-Dimensional on disc so I'd have to go to vgmdb to hit the liner notes.

They know about the ring portals because it was used all over the place in 1 and an entire GUN team witnessed it in 2 at the wedding. Tails' illusion tech wasn't seen by GUN in 2 and they definitely wouldn't know about this new variation. Considering how shady GUN is as an organization (including Rockwell), I'm willing to stretch my imagination to think she believed GUN was just doing GUN things again with Walters.

I don't think Gerald would have any interest in telling Shadow that Walters is dead. The ultimate plan is to kill themselves and everyone else. Gotta keep that anger focused. Walters being alive would be good fuel for him.

I knew I heard that used in one of the next-to-last scenes. I've seen a lot of comments like, "Live and Learn is the only song that appeared from the games," but I was happy to hear a much deeper cut as well. I swear I heard something similar to Eggman's 06 theme as well.

Just wish they'd fling the vault wide open and let Junkie XL draw on as much music from the games as he can. I'm sure he'd still want to write his own themes, and it doesn't need to be like the Mario movie where it was 100% pulled from the games (aside from the random times the editors felt like using pop music instead, despite the composer writing original music for those scenes already), but I can't say any of the music from these movies has ever really stuck with me.

Speaking about the rings, I wonder if what Knuckles said is true (and if the Italian dub is accurate, which is never guaranteed), and they effectively have no rings at all anymore, or if he only meant that they didn't have more rings with them at that given time. In before rings become a joke like the senzu beans.

I kinda wanted Gerald to be comprised of the nanobots we see him have, his mind uploaded into an experimental computer born of the Chaos Energy experiments, then transferred into the Eclipse Cannon, then when Sonic and Shadow manage to divert the blast he uses the nanobots to pull a Finalhazard and drag the Eclipse Cannon into the Earth, either as the Biolizard (to display his complete lack of humanity now) or a clear homage to it.

Perhaps, as you noted, due to the movie we see: he's gone so far off the deep end that what brought Maria joy he's corrupted to a horrific purpose.
