What difference does this make? They could have replaced the songs regardless of this prototype for recent re-releases and they haven't.
Yeah, this prototype is an amazing discovery. Why the fuck didn't SEGA just use this music instead? Using this music perhaps could have prevented all the legal issues with some of MJ tracks which they used in the final version.
I'm watching this and think to myself "Man, even at this early stage Sonic 3 was awesome.", yet it got even better. They've done an impressive job.
So it seems like there is also no insta-shield in this version. Definitely seems like the drop dash was originally Sonic's unique move. I wish they kept it to be honest - not many people ever understood the insta-shield.
There it is. What we were waiting for. EDIT: Incredibly early compared to the other stages too. No wonder they initially cut it for deadlines.
Now they have zero excuse now and can just use the audio rips from this prototype. Anyway, Flying Battery exists.
I love the hexadecimal "sprites" for the flying battery barrels. Anyone more knowledgeable of the genesis know why that could happen? Edit: I think I saw some I's and G's. So it's not even hex?
No cannon at the end of Carnival Night Zone Act 2. Looks like Sonic would probably have grabbed onto the Flying Battery unaided, like in Sonic & Knuckles.
Flying Battery layout mostly there, but no objects. Perhaps the same for Mushroom Valley and Sandopolis
Maybe they didn't because they no longer had the MD version of those tracks, and they didn't want to produce all-new music. Now that this proto has surfaced Tax and Stealth may be able to convince Sega to greenlight a S3K remake by using the recovered music.
Well, they could have re-created the songs if they were really determined. Anyway, it would be neat if this discovery changed things. I still hate the old/PC Ice Cap music though. Also:
