Yeah if there's anything Mugen games do well at, it's overpowered, unbalanced, art clashing, audio clipping madness.

Ah... MUGEN. Tried it for about an hour. Subsequently removed it from my laptop.

    Depends on the person/people involved.

This is still being worked on, by the way. Just very slow progress.

Did you all really miss the point of the post? It wasn't made on the purpose of talking about MUGEN itself, but the fact that someone made a stage based on a Sonic hack, most likely without permission (but likely giving credit, at least). The point being made is that it didn't cause anyone to be bothered just because the stage itself was made, nor did anyone consider it theft. That's what GT Koopa meant to say, that it's quite confusing.

Besides, I'm not going to completely disagree in here, but I'm not going to agree either. MUGEN is a decent engine, it just wouldn't seem that way if most people didn't make ridiculously big rosters of things that don't go along or just ridiculous weeaboo crossovers. I know this is off topic, but just wanted to say it really depends on how you use the engine.

Are you sure about that? I assumed that Card Saga Wars had been forgotten years ago.

Then again, considering the thread we're in, there's always hope, I suppose.

Well, he posted on his Tumblr that the game's status is the same as last year, and he doesn't have anything new to tease at the moment. So maybe it's not being worked on right now, but it's not scrapped.

Obviously. I wasn't poking fun at the engine.

OK, not only are we going wildly offtopic, there's not much more else to say right now. Locking the thread, someone from Megamix can unlock it when it's deemed necessary.

I ran it over with all concerned, and it was deemed that a lock is unnecessary at this point.(thanks for the concern though OL, appreciate it ) General discussion of the project is always fine, but let's try not to get too offtopic.

I will say a few words here on this...

I don't think public hints and releases on the state of the project are a bad idea, but I can understand the reasons Stealth will have for doing so. He's clearly argued his reasons and I don't wish to refute them.

Furthermore, I'd like to say here and now that, your name is recognized and has weight from at least a few of us still. I already enjoyed Taxman's first Sonic CD remake immensely...

But when the news hit that you would be the one behind the Sonic 1 and 2 ports? I knew we were in for a true treat. I'm shocked you didn't get more credit in the project, but for at least some of us, rest assured that your name carried weight when it became attached to it. I appreciate the things you've done for these hacks over the years. I truly wish Sega would give you the funds to use the engine and create your own game in this style, but alas, it is what it is. The Japanese see us as a niche that aren't that important to them for whatever reason. Oh well.

I look forward to the eventual completion of MegaMix as if it were the true Sonic 4/5. So long as you're onboard for getting it done (which, again, you've said you are), I can wait. I've been lurking since the Simon Wai days, and I'll still be lurking in this community for a long time I suspect.

From what I recall, Stealth has slowly been cleaning up v4.0 for a final release, though the "new game" isn't going to be finished because most of Team Megamix has gone their separate ways. The closest we'll probably get to that is Sonic Megamix Mania, which Stealth has endorsed. Regardless, the original version is technically still in development as Stealth said he's going to finish v4.0 (which was released unfinished due to shenanigans back in the day) and hasn't since said anything suggesting otherwise.

The page does need to be updated to include the post-v3.0 Genesis build that Stealth released on Steam Workshop when they added mod support to the Genesis collection. IIRC it was a build that was originally leaked, but given that it ultimately got distributed in an official capacity, I think it'd be worth documenting on the wiki.

You really shouldn’t backseat moderate either, but at least with his post there is a valid reason to bump.

Nothing wrong with keeping information up to date, it is encouraged, and if bumping this thread in an on-topic manner to draw attention to the fact that the wiki page cannot be updated, I think that is reasonable.

Now if you were in charge, you could lay out the correct procedure here, but you only attacked Chimes just for trying to contribute.

Megamix and Mania are two totally different things by two different teams at different times for different systems, but your post implies Megamix became Mania and he’s an idiot for thinking otherwise.

Your attitude is not very supportive for something that is supposed to be a community space, to someone who clearly did not spam.

That was almost 10 years ago, with the only other update that I can find being the renaming of his 'Never Cancelled' video to 'Never (Was) Cancelled (Until Now)':

It seems pretty dead to me.

Now that this thread is active I figure now is the best opportunity to ask something that is, hopefully, related to Sonic Megamix.
There's a Genesis-style remix of Be Cool, Be Wild and Be Groovy from Sonic Adventure that I've been trying to find the author, or at least source, of; it goes completely uncredited as you can guess.

This remix was uploaded into smashcustommusic.com (of BrawlBRSTMs fame, if anyone remembers) by TheUltimateKoopa, probably explaining the YouTube upload I linked, but this is most likely someone uploading the remix without involvement from the author.

Why I think this has to do with Sonic Megamix? Because someone made a mash-up of the remix with the original song from Sonic Adventure, and they specify that the remix is from Sonic Megamix.

I can't find this remix uploaded anywhere on YouTube under the context of Sonic Megamix, though, so it'd be great to have more clarity on this.

Sad to see a good project like this die. I hope someone from Team Megamix releases the changes to the source code, just for educational purposes and in case it proves helpful to the Mania Megamix people. Not my call to make, but I don't see the harm if people give proper attribution (CC BY license).

For smaller software projects, I'm surprised the CC BY license isn't used more often. For most end user projects (i.e. not libraries or middleware), you could fit the list of contributors and 5-10 words explaining what they did in a single text file that fits on less than 2 pages w/ 12pt font.

I think it's more out of politeness, respect, and integrity. Legal has never been the issue.

I'll gladly share my contributions, but not the rest of the team's.

Thanks, man! I wouldn't want to put you in hot water with your other friends though if there's anything that might be someone else's work in there. It's not worth it, especially when the people like me asking for it are unlikely to ever repay the kindness with a substantial contribution of our (my) own... Unless you want some scripts for turning a PC into an OpenBSD combined NAS and wireless router (to avoid the plethora of zero-day vulnerabilities in consumer-grade routers). That's about all I have to contribute that anyone around here would ever want.

If there's anyone on Team Megamix who is incensed at the prospect of other people making derivative works out of their derivative works, I'm content to make like Paul McCartney and let it be.

I wouldn't worry about it, they were being incredibly rude for no good reason.
