I like this new art for Metallic Base. I'd be tempted to put in a few pipes in some areas so the tiling wasn't as obvious (unless of course it's not possible to do so), but nevertheless this looks nice and fresh. That being said, it does look a bit empty now that the inside bits have been replaced with glass, though I assume the level layout isn't final so that might not be an issue.

One thing though about the level though - it almost looks like a "good future" version of the stage with the current palette. Doesn't really look like the evil works of Robotnik with calm blues and light purples... maybe make it a bit more brown/red? That way you can kill two birds with one stone and it'll look less like Sonic Crackers.

Hasn;t this been fixed somewhat now anyway? I remember watching a Youtube video where the results for a given act were displayed on their own seperate screen, in essence hiding the loading behind them...

but... I like to have that little pause to take a victory drink at the end of each Act =P
Using the score count to 'hide' the loading is cool idea though.

I would just like to say that whatever you do with the art, it will be better than the art in my hack.

Since certain people seem to think I'm lazy and haven't been working on original and non Sonic art, here's a pic of something that was going to remain under wraps. It's still very much a WIP and will be subject to a lot of alterations, but since some people aren't satisfied, I hope this appeals to you in some way.

It appears a little on the grainy side because of the dithering, but I'm sort-of-betting that this is to save on colours, so I hold further judgement until I see more. But it looks good so far.

Hey guys, what's going-- HOLY SHIT! *Spits out water*

Great, now I have to clean my screen. :v:

That's fucking awesome dude. And you say it's very much a WIP? Could've fooled me otherwise! Nice work.

Stephen, surely you do not need to prove anything to anyone; you know that, we know that. And needless to say that for every person who doesn't recognize the effort you make, there are many others who admire your work. And I'm one of them. :)

That said... OH GOD WTF MY EYES! If the result of all the bitching in the recent posts was this post, well, then something positive came out of it all. YES THIS IS A WORK OF ART! If it's a WIP, now I really want to see the final version. I love the background.

I wasn't too big a fan of the dithering, but then I realized. Sonic games are supposed to be on TVs, which back in the day were blurry. I imagine, if it were on real hardware which is probably the aim of this, you'd have something like this:

Which, I must say, looks a lot better than it would without all the dithering.

It is quite lovely, but sadly it feels less rewarding to look at due to the reason of posting. :(

    Grand work nonetheless!

edit: Why'd I think this was the Screenshot thread o_O

Wow, nicely done! this I wasn't expecting to see, would I be right in asuming this art is for the zone I think it's for? (or maybe some sort of extra mistery zone?) =P

I'm gonna have to echo the others who've commented; this is fucking excellent work, but I'm not a big fan of dithering in general. Fantastic regardless, of course.

But don't feel like you have to prove yourself to people; they're not worth you bothering with them.

Awesome! Is it going to replace existing art, or a new/secret level?

It's certainly different. It's maybe a little less like the classic Sonic art than I might have expected, but it's still pretty nice.

That gradient on water are actually possible on unexpanded hardware?

Either this a bloody brilliant illusion, or this project has just earned even more of my respect.

The dithering (silly word) is fine. What's getting to me is how flat the grass is. It almost seems paper thin.

This looks very professional and rivals the work of many other hacks! Great job!

Wondering what zone it is too.
