Desert Palace was from Sonic 3's multiplayer. sonic 2's used Emerald Hill, Mystic Cave, Casino night, and the sepcial stages.
Speaking of Sonic 3 multiplayer, I'd love to see a couple of those zones remade into full levels, especially Chrome Gadget.

Random thought. I really like the piano keys in Mirage Saloon. They act similarly to the piano keys in Music Plant Zone from Sonic Advance 2. I always liked that level.
You should at least see his fingers, in that case. But anyway, Sonic is not supposed to be grabbing thin air, is he?
No, but it depends how they're supposed to be holding on, if they're gripping with fingertips like you would on monkey bars, then his fingers might not be visible.
So has anyone made mention of the fact that Knuckles still travels his own exclusive path separate from Sonic and Tails? Notice how the characters start Mirage Saloon act 2 at different points.
Just a random thought - I can't wait to find out the names of all the new levels in this game. One thing that frequently bugs me about the series is boring names for locations, almost as though there's limited word-pool to choose from. Carnival Night and Night Carnival, Metropolis and Grand Metropolis, Water Palace and Ocean Palace... it's really irksome. There's always a few good names out there, but there's just as many dull ones. Unleashed will always standout for having names that weren't just creative and reflective of the levels (Jungle Joyride, Skyscraper Scamper and Cool Edge), but also for being really energetic and full of character. I'm so far loving that we've got another Noun-opolis level Mirage Saloon. Saloon has never been used in a Sonic level name before. It's great! I hope other levels continue the trend. I somehow didn't notice this. It's quite interesting that Knuckles is on the higher path, because normally Knuckles took lower routes in S3K due to his weaker jump. Not always though, with MGZ being the most obvious example. I wonder how the paths will split in this game. Here's hoping there's moments where Tails splits off from Sonic or where Sonic gets to go to places that the other two can't reach.
On the other hand, Knuckles also has a climb that Sonic lacks. With a high enough wall, he can even scale to heights Tails can't.
Yeah. Plus there's also cases like LBZ2 where Knuckles is lead to a higher route from the lower route that only he can reach, or HCZ2 where it's the storyline that separates the paths. I wonder how the stories will play out? S3K clearly put Knuckles' entire game after the events of Sonic and Tails', but I can't imagine that being the case for Mania.
Actually I'm pretty certain Knuckles starts on a lower path and Sonic & Tails are on a higher one. I can see how it's a bit confusing due to how the the different routes intersect/cross each other. For all we know there might be another starting point, maybe a third high-route for Tails only. Hopefully there are upper and lower path transitions from act 1 to act2 in the other zones. I'd actually like it if Sonic, Tails & Knuckles could chose whatever act transition route to take rather than restricting characters to certain routes too much. I'm hoping Knuckles story takes place at the same time as the others and that Knux will be able to explore at least the same level layout that Sonic can. Knuckles routes in 3&K were often a bit too short compared to S&T's for my liking. Just loving the design of Mirage Saloon. I like how all the badniks are based off of different types of birds, thus fitting the zones theme. Even the totem poles have heads shape like Eagles. Fascinating choice to include pinball-flippers and making them look like the head of a vulture is genius. Hopefully the flippers control better than the one's from act 3 of Collision Chaos in Sonic CD's remastered version. Damn I HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF THE SONIC ENGINE :v: Can't wait to play the full zone.
You only need to look at the background and the terrain. Sonic and Tails start on a sand dune (fittingly only seen on the lowest paths) and are well below the horizon, whilst Knuckles is on a wooden path and is more level with the skyline.
Not to be a damper, but name feels backwards for some reason. Saloon Mirage Zone sounds smoother for some reason. I know it goes against the whole "Adjective Noun Zone" traditional mantra. I just don't know why I feel that why. Using "Mirage Saloon" i'ts "Adjective Noun" but "Saloon Mirage" is "Noun noun" and therefor more satisfying to me. Palmtree Panic sounds better than Panic Puppet as well.
