Well now that 25th Anniversary Party is behind us and everyone has had time to upload their footage of the game, I've decided to round up all the videos I can find into a simple list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir9M2lMpELQ :v: Spoiler For the uninformed, this is from a youtube channel named "SiIvaGunner" (note the uppercase "i" instead of a lowercase "L"). The best way to describe this channel is musical shitposting for video games. Ever since the game was revealed on the livestream, they have been making and releasing shitposts based on this game. The first ones were direct potshots at the livestream's terrible audio problems. However, their later "high quality rips" of Mania have been amazing. This last one being so good that I couldn't not post it here.
Without going through 58 other pages for the answer, does anyone know if the demo be available to all on Steam?
Is anyone else queuing the trailer up on a regular basis? I still get a happy feeling when the trailer makes the first hint of going back to the beginning, and how that may entail something wonderful, and then receiving the wonderful news with the Christian Whitehead logo. Such a well done trailer Yes it is!
After the flood of "fangame" discussion, I don't even know if this has been mentioned at all, but if so at least it's a friendly reminder that we'll see stuff from Sonic 3 and S&K. I wonder if that means two distinct retro zones, or elements of both games put into multiple acts of one zone? http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=211224651&postcount=1660
Hmm, that could actually be a pretty cool mashup - particularly if they reused Retro Sonic XG's plan to have a level set in the sunken ruins of the Death Egg for the latter act.
First act in abandoned Launch Base Zone, second in the crashed remains of Death Egg... Which just happened to be in Launch Base despite flying through space for while. I could totally get on board with that! But I'm not thinking it's going to pan out; Launch Base is in a curious position with its music copyright issues. And I think we'll probably be seeing separate S3 and SK levels as full zones anyway.
Yeah, the Sonic 3 level is definitely not Ice Cap, Carnival Night or Launch Base. If I had to guess, it'll be Hydrocity and Flying Battery.
Man I forgot about XG! - that first level 'final fall?' was an awesome start for a game after 3&K. +1 for the Launch Base + Death Egg mash up, although I doubt that would happen as it's supposed to be a brand new story line.
XG's story never made sense but I guess that's why it's a fan game. "Happening after the events of Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic falls from the atmosphere and lands on the tornado, carrying the Master Emerald. Suddenly, an object flies by striking the tornado with laser beams twice, plummeting Sonic to the Floating Island. It is revealed seconds later to be none other than Metal Sonic, who seen holding the Master Emerald, then flying off. In the background, a burning Death Egg is seen tumbling downwards, closer and closer, to the Floating Island.... " Now doesn't Knuckles story take place right after Doomsday Zone?
I hope the Sonic 3 stage is Hydrocity. If they kind of merge it with Tidal Tempest's aesthetics/gimmicks we could get something really cool. Also it would be dope if this mechanic returned in another stage: Found some gameplay videos showing off more of the stages: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-N_spYwqyY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xM3UdBUO6FQ
I'm curious, but I wonder if there's some possible workaround that could be done for the MJ music stages. I've seen remixes of Ice Cap on iTunes, perhaps a sufficiently transformative remixed track that deviated from the original composition allow one of those stages to return? My vote is always for Ice Cap x Flying Battery or Death Egg. Abandoned Eggman bases have captivated me since the first time I played Sonic Adventure 2's Lost Colony stage. It has a lot of potential for cool aesthetics, blues and greys, frozen machinery, it'd be perfect!
I don't know about you guys, but the PC tracks for Carnival Night and Launch Base were fantastic. I see no issue using those, if the issue is an MJ rights issue. Wasn't Ice Cap definitely done without MJ's involvement, however? I do not know.
Really hope Hydrocity makes the cut. No Sonic game really took advantage of water-based level design to the degree that Hydrocity did; it really succeeded at rewarding you for avoiding the water but didn't punish you overly if you screwed up. Also, Lava Reef gets so overlooked. It was such a cinematic experience for the Sonic series just for the transition between act 1, act 2 and the act 2 boss; it feels so unique in a way no other zone does. I really do think those two zones from 3 & Knuckles hold the most promise than any other classic zones, period.
The thing is, even though I'd really love to see so many certain stages in particular (Hydrocity definitely at the top is the list), I'm actually just as excited to think of new stages we could get instead. Say that Hydrocity doesn't appear in Mania, it's fairly likely that we'll see another ruin/water stage instead, be it an existing level like Aquatic Ruin or something entirely new. The prospects are all worth getting excited over.
