I was about ready to predict Saxman's suicide when he saw this, until I noticed the actual play engine is MMF :V

    The creation software looks great!

I hope to 'up' the engine one day, but I'd need one that can read text files for data... one that has all 3 characters aswell

I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
Man, know and be warned that I will be watching this thread like a vulture. Because this kind of thing would be the answer to all my prayers, me being too lazy to actually find my way around all this hacking and programming bollocks. All I really want to do is design level layouts without all the confuzzling bells and whistles. I'd be on PlaySega using its level editor, but it's too limited and glitchy for my liking.

Pity that the engine's almost certainly crap for the time being, but, you know, baby steps...

Does anyone know an engine that is decent enough for people to be happy (one that I can create objects at runtime form text file data) because a GM engine is the only one I can find right now.

Wait, this is for PlaySega? I was hoping to have this as a replacement for SonED2 (cause this program is really starting to get on my fucking nerves). =(
    But lookin' good though.

Nop. Its just rather simmilar to the PlaySega editor (Well, I've never even used the PlaySega editor, but I have seen many a video).

  11. On that note...If someone could rip the sprites from off the Sonic PlaySega Level Editor, so I can make a GOOD zone using those tiles, would be epicly awesome.

But I am DEFINITELY liking what I see here. An easy-to-use Sonic Level Editor! JUST WHAT I ALWAYS WANTED!

Any hope of different zone objects besides Green Hill?

In the far future, I will have settings for all zones in Sonic 1, I like Sonic 1 (Well, definitely most of them). Then I might move on to Sonic 2.

Oh and this will have another thing PlaySega doesn't have: Parallax!

Wait, does that mean this IS for Sonic Hacking now using an editor based off PlaySega? (Sorry if it's somewhere in this topic or you just mentioned it, but... my english failed :V)

It's not for hacking. It's for designing levels to be run on a separate engine.

EDIT: Which brings up the point that this kind of needs a good engine at some point...

Correct. Does anyone know any suitable engines, even a vb engine? Just to make this great. If I cant find an engine, It will most likley be the GM Sonic Dash engine.

Well, any vaguely workable engine can do for now, but eventually when the editor itself is all worked out it'd be cool if a custom engine could be made or an existing engine adapted to run the levels produced by Sonic Maker in something more akin to actual Sonic physics and such.

By the way, is there any way you could make provision for custom tilesets in the editor? That would be a cool feature for those who're artistically-inclined and can create their own level graphics.

Well, the fact is, It wont save a stand alone exe, so that means more external files (without that feature, it would only have a text file).

The great thing about this system is that to play other peoples levels, you just need to recive the data text file, and put it into the Exe location!

I'm working on something much like this, in Game Maker.

Sadly, it's still a ways from being finished, or I'd be glad to let you use my engine. :(

DASH is a good engine, though.

Your engine? Can you PM it to me, if you may?

Also, a quick question to all people:

How would you like to go abouts making your games? With meta-blocks or using 32*32 collision masks (meta-blocks are WAY easier (for me and you) btw).

    EDIT:
I am now releasing a demo of the editor. The levels made are not complete, nor playable. This is just to get a general idea of how it works!

Also, I am aware that the last Green Hill tile is repeated many times.
