A cynical person might say that if these gameplay elements were more intuitive, they wouldn't need "announcers".
I like the announcer personally. Ya he was def more enthusiastic the last time though. I also like the Wisps. Asteroid seems useful and Eagle seems like a much needed streamlined version of Hover. Not quite sure I get rhythm right now, but hopefully we don't see Cube, Hover, or Frenzy again (Although it could be argued that in some ways these 3 new wisps somewhat replace them. Rhythm is some kinda platforming power like Cube, Eagle is hover, and Asteroid is an easier to control frenzy). Wouldn't mind seeing spikes return again though, but now that you can run on walls it seems slightly useless. And when you think about it, wisps are really just more powerful yet timed shields. They honestly seem like an evolution of what we had in Sonic 3.
>hating on Frenzy It's like you people hate smashing everything in sight while awesome... um... "music"... plays. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbsFhaELmSM It's like I'm really at a Nine Inch Nails concert.
wut No I am 100% Ok with this after the NO GENERATIONS DLC (And since, lets face it, Casino Night 3DS was cheese) but damn it to hell am I shocked. I'm hoping the ice level is Ice Cap. However, I really wish they picked Carnival Night. I mean I did like Casino Night, but it was technically represented in both Generations
Looks like Sega won't be letting go of standard Egg Pawns ever. I wonder what those silver starred chips do differently than Rings.
I don't mind an Egg Pawn here and there, it was just in Heroes when they were everywhere where I hated them. And those silver star rings? Prob poker chips or something V Don't be so sure. Honey combs don't fit the desert yet there they are. But the casino would work in the desert due to the whole Vegas thing.
I like how this level is more busy than the other levels we've seen. As in term of graphically comparing it. Wonder what kinda wisp we'll be able to use here. Lazer? Rhythm? Also I'm assuming this'll be a part of the Desert Ruins Zones. Since I don't see it fitting anywhere else.
I'm still weary of Sega turning levels into tropes rather than creating new levels from tropes. It feels like the thought process for this level and Windy Hill was "Let's make a Casino Night Zone" and "Let's make a Green Hill Zone" rather than "Let's make a casino level" and "Let's make a grassland level". It's another cue from Mario I don't like Sonic taking in this game.
They would be accused of this no matter what. You can only do so much with the idea, though I'm sure some of you are ready to shoot down this idea. Because Green Hill Zone != Planet Wisp. Or Jungle Joyride != Angel Island Zone. Or Starlight Carnival and Aquarium Planet are entirely original. Or even Aquatic Base is technically entirely original (it hadn't been done before in a Sonic game, though it could use further refinement.)
Not to interupt, but the SDCC 2013 SEGA event started. Y'know the one with the free playable demo of Lost World? Anybody going there? Also, where are those CNZ LW screenshots coming from?
Oh boy, love me some Casino Zone. I was missing this kind of stages in a Sonic game. Generations on the 3DS had a casino stage, but I have mixed feelings about that stage. Altought I would like a bit of originality (since the stage's design is pretty much Casion Night Zone from Sonic 2) I won't complain since Lost World is a very original game by itself so it doesn't feel just like a stage "remake". The only thing that I have mixed feelings in thoses pictures are the presence of Egg Pawns. I'm not some classic die-hard fan that hates any robot who doesn't look like a cartoony animal/insect, but I've never really liked the Egg Pawns for some reason that I can't explain. They just seem out of place for me even in Sonic Colors where they were different according to the stage. It is like, you can't do much with 'em, they're just lazy enemies that attack Sonic if he is near them.
Derp. Also more screenshots here, we still don't know where they come from: http://www.sonicstadium.org/2013/07/sonic-lost-world-19-new-screenshots/
I'm loving how surreal some of the stages look style wise. The Jungle zone looks particularly gorgeous. Weird that it has some non-badnik monster enemies but it is a 'new world' after all I guess, inhabitants of it rather than Eggman inventions. Did anyone else notice the Slicer in the trailer during a quick cut of the music note wisp? Really stylized with big bug eyes, cute! I want nice toys of all the badniks (and the deadly six) in this game, stat.
The UK Official Nintendo Magazine website has higher-res versions of all these new pics right here. Edit: ALL THE GREEN HUES.
