CD being a real outlier however, considering that it's the only game in the series to have done that. Either Lost World is weirdly formatted in the way it writes the level names, or it's following the CD system (which is a stupid thing to do).

  2. Echoing that this game is literally he CNZ barrel. Looking back the only thing that this game actually explains are the controls. Nothing else.

I'm having a little trouble with Tropical Coast 4.

The section with the butterflies specifically. The butterflies seems to get "collected" rather than follow Sonic, and as such wont activate the flower, allowing me to move to the next section of the level. It's strange, as the butterfly mechanic has worked perfectly during previous levels.

Aside from that, since the patch (I've used the "--F30" command line) the game has been running perfectly.

  4. I didn't really care to be honest, it was much quicker for me to whip out my phone and take a picture and puush it directly rather than screenshotting. :v:

    (also that's RadeonPro there)

My laptop makes mods on its own. :specialed:

I have this issue too. The patch is a lovely idea and I'm really glad they already jumped on making something like this, but it currently does break a few things. Using --F30 or --F causes the freed butterflies to rapidly fly away, which makes Tropical Coast 1, Tropical Coast 4 and Silent Forest 1 impossible to complete. I've also recently found that it causes Sonic to not interact properly with some objects at times (especially on --F).

How the hell is it possible to kill 3 enemies with the Bomb Wisp? I barely managed to kill 1 enemy, now I'm expected to kill 3? [IMG]

Bullshit mission that requires you to run over a lot of enemies to first increase the size of the bomb. On the Wii U version, I was lucky enough to have some left over 5-Star Bombs from the pre-order bonus, so that made it much easier. Best place to do it is on Tropical Coast 1, where you can lure a load of Egg Pawns from those spawning points.

You can save those missions and get 5 and 4 star bombs from other missions later. When you have one, the best place is actually to go to Tropical Coast Zone 2, wait until the planet-like section with all the motobugs circled around cannons, stand on top of the cannon, use the Bomb wisps item and balance until boom. There's 6 around each, so there's plenty for the mission, as well as the 5 enemy one later.

There's another mission requiring you to run on the ceiling for 5 seconds. I've only managed to do this in Desert Ruins Zone 1 maybe twice, and even then, I never have enough momentum/speed to stay moving, Sonic slows to a crawl and falls into the spikes. Is there something to this I'm not getting?

Ironically, some of the mechanics were better handled by DIMPS of all developers on the 3DS version. That one at least let you spindash in front of a wall so you have all the speed you need to climb it, the Wii U/PC version just has Sonic come to a screeching halt when he meets a wall while spinning.

IIRC the requirement is to stay moving on the ceiling, not just running on it. In other words, hanging from the vines counts towards it.

Alright, I got all the red rings, messed with Super Sonic, and beat the hidden world. Time to wrap up with what I hope will be the last of my bitching lists.

    • General
      • I'm noticing this a bit late, but the game why does the game auto-hide all of the IMPORTANT HUD elements (ring/life counter, timer, red rings) while permanently displaying the circles for Omochao, the item suitcase, and Super Sonic?
      • Also a bit late, but I realized why steering Sonic is so awkward in the 3D sections. You have to tilt the analog stick nearly 45 degrees to either side before he'll even consider going anything other than straight forward (or backward).
      • Why are there "Zone ?"s for Tropical Coast and Sky Road, but nothing else?
      • The game doesn't tell you this, but if you hold sprint on the overworld Sonic will go directly between each level's entrance instead of awkwardly walking around honeycombs.
      • The Omochao challenge system is so stupid. Why do I only get the credit and achievement for meeting a challenge's criteria if it's one of my 3 currently assigned missions? Just award them as I do them, PERIOD.
      • Also, having challenges that require items, which are only obtainable through challenges or random hub drops, is ridiculous.
    • Red Rings and Golden Hedgehogs
      • The more I play this, the more I wish we had the option to go back 2 checkpoints. I'm sick of the game unexpectedly thrusting me into a checkpoint when I want to go back for something, forcing me to start the entire level over.
      • Who the hell puts a red ring on the LOWER, more direct path and just fills the upper path a bunch of rings? That and an annoying wall-jump red ring toward the end of the casino level were particularly annoying.
      • Super Sonic is surprisingly awkward to control.
      • You lose Super Sonic when going into a pinball table. What a wasted opportunity for Super Sonic to rig the slot machines.
      • I addressed this before, but seriously, why the FUCK can Super Sonic die to bomb carts?
    • Hidden World
      • Hidden World Zone 1 was pathetic. Is super-homing-attacking two cubes supposed to be the entirety of the level?
      • Hidden World Zone 2
        • This plane gameplay comes out of absolutely nowhere. It's cool, but why is it here?
        • Wait, I can hold sprint to fly faster? Then why does the level seem designed around the slower default speed?
      • Zone 3
        • These shrinking and disappearing platforms really scream "Mario Galaxy ripoff"
        • I'm pretty sure all of those animals I just freed are falling to their deaths in a colorful void now
        • This awkward tube gravity platforming isn't particularly difficult, but it IS annoying. Why doesn't gravity shift until I've touched the ground?
        • Either there's no drop shadow, or the color of these platforms is obscuring it. Either way it makes those side paths hard to jump onto. Good thing no red rings means I can just ignore them.
      • Zone 4
        • This whole jumping between bubbles mechanic is weird, and also comes out of nowhere.
        • These furry Pacman things are creepy, and killing them with spiked balls feels unsettling.
      • Wait, that's it? That's the end of the extra bonus world? Where are the challenges asking me to master the game's central mechanics? Where's the satisfying conclusion? I was expecting maybe some parkour gauntlets, but I got a bunch of levels that had absolutely fuck all to do with any of the game's central mechanics.

After everything else I've had to hate on, especially the last 5 levels of the game, this was just underwhelming. Still, aside from the Omochao missions, I've completed the game, so hooray for me, I made it through this steaming pile of bullshit. :specialed:

Oh, and the NiGHTs level was pretty cool. I think they put more effort into that level than they did into making the rest of the game good.

I find this rather ironic considering all of your complaints, since the NiGHTs level is essentially reskinned half-bosses with some NiGHTs stuff thrown in mach speed bits.

I guess, but the level goes smoothly and has some pretty cool visuals, plus I thought the orb and dash ring stuff was neat. Although the effort comment was also supposed to be a joke about how poorly I think of most of the game. :v:

Oooh, another nasty bug playing at 30 FPS - you can't beat Sky Road 1 because the third set of rockets that the turtle badnik shoots out is intangible. I'm gonna keep testing some stuff out in the 30 FPS mode later, but I think I'll just have to go through the game proper playing slightly slower than usual :v: Still haven't run into anything incredibly frustrating gameplay-wise yet to be quite honest, though Silent Forest 2 was somewhat annoying.

Also, I've really been loving the music; I know Tropical Coast 3 is a favorite for a lot of people, but Frozen Factory 1 is so great to me. Absolutely love it.

A couple of things I wish the game did better though - I think Windy Hill 2, Windy Hill 4, Silent Forest 2 (mostly), and Silent Forest 4 have pretty greatly designed 2D sections. They have enough to do to keep them interesting, a few secrets you may not catch on a first run, and great flow. But the others so far are relatively boring. For Desert Ruins 3 in particular, it's a shame that the level ended up as plain as it did because the setting is so unique.

I will also say that the Kick being mandatory for some enemies is strange. I don't mind that it can do some things that the Homing Attack can't, like reflect large projectiles or throw enemies into others, but the fact that common badniks like Crabmeat and the Egg Pawn require you use to defeat them it is pretty silly, especially considering past games. Something weird related to this I noticed was that with Antons, the Homing Attack reticle will build up, yet you can only harm them with the kick?????

  15. Running the game at 75FPS can cause cannons to screw up and shoot you in the wrong direction sometimes. It is best seen in Sky Road Zone 1 where one gold cannon shot Sonic and forced him into a spline where he fell to his death (after a while, since there isn't a death plane there, it's after it hits a certain Z value) and where another cannon before a dash section can shoot Sonic backwards and make him run backwards even though the splines are forcing him forwards.

Besides those issues at that stage, in my opinion from that stage onwards the game becomes much tougher. The difficulty spike is seen there and I have to say, most of the times I did die I felt it was the game's fault more than mine because the game either didn't inform me about certain things I can do (or how I do them) or it was pure bullshit (which it is mostly comprised of at that point, really).

Word of advice: farm for lives before Sky Road Zone 1, you'll need them. It's possible to farm them on Tropical Coast Zone 1 on the cloud jump section.

Yup, that's the spot I used.

Basically. The game doesn't really have a proper progression of its mechanics, with half of the levels introducing unique gimmicks you'll never use again, and it decides on a whim when it wants you to demonstrate skills that it hasn't bothered to help you develop, and the last two worlds leading up to the final boss really ramp up the bullshit.

It's like if the first 6 worlds of Super Mario 3D World were actually Mario Party, and then it suddenly dropped you into Bowser's territory to do some real platforming. But then after THAT, the special worlds went back to being Mario Party.

So after doing some research I found out something you're going to both love and hate (I know I sure do!). The ice blocks from Frozen Factory Zone 4? Those count as "enemies" for the bomb challenge. If you're sitting on a nice section of ice blocks, you'll detonate the moment you use the bomb wisp and get more than enough ice blocks for the challenge.

I'm at a loss here. On the one hand, that's incredibly helpful for an otherwise practically impossible mission. On the other hand, WHAT THE FUCK SONIC TEAM HOW DO YOU EVEN PROGRAM ICE BLOCKS TO COUNT AS ENEMIES FOR OMOCHAO MISSIONS HOLY SHIT DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW TO CODE.

...have I mentioned I don't care much for this game? :v:

Honestly it sounds like that's what you're supposed to do, but they once again failed to explain a non-intuitive mechanic in the game. Go figure! ("Blow up 3 objects!" would certainly be a lot clearer by way of vagueness)
