Yea I still can't get through EHZ2 even.

That said, I like the options screen music and the continue music. Everything else needs a bit of work. And what is with the messed up Sonic art?

Is that Europa's The Final Countdown I hear in WFZ?

The Death Egg shot shouldn't feature Tails, and why does Tails float into the WFZ shot?

lol @ those Special Stages. But seriously, can I get a real instrument version of the Special Stage song? It's massively intense.

You also need to get transparent super peel out sprites. I totally got a kick out of that randomly generated background.

Your level design has some interesting concepts, but like... you gotta get them to work first. Then maybe

Hill Top Zone... some of the chunks that SonED makes available for Hill Top Zone doesn't work for Hill Top Zone... you need to be more aware of that.

And that music... some of the levels seem to desync the different parts of the different songs. Like, I think most of the music would be amazing if done on real instruments, or even in midi with a full set of sounds available.

Like, I was totally feeling that Special Stage song.

Edit: AND THE SONG IN SKY CHASE... IT SOUNDS FAMILIAR, BUT MAYBE MY EARS LIED.
What is it and how can I get a good version of it?
And why are half of the sound effects gone?

+ - Ever heard of "The Final Countdown" by Europa?
You can get the songs, including the "source" and voices before conversion at <a href="http://tamkis.tripod.com/geekware/mux.html%5dhere%5b/url%5d.%20Most%20of%20the%20songs%20in%20the%20game%20are%20some%20of%20my%20favorite%20module%20files%20from%20%5burl=&quot;www.modarchive.org" target="_blank">modarchive.org</a> in my music collection.

For some reason, I did something wrong with SonMapEd when building the mappings, making a blue background. I'll hopefully fix that in the next release, it should be easy, but tedious.

I'm well aware of that, hence the reason why I have skipped working on HTZ for now. I know it's possible to split the EHZ and HTZ chunk files into separate files (e.g. Sonic 2 Retro Remix), which is what I plan on doing to override this error. Regardless, this will be a hard zone to make.

For technical reasons, I had to fall back on Xm3smps Oerg, because Xm4Smps would refuse to convert xm files to smps, no matter what I tried on Windows XP. Xm4smps is much stingier with its conversions, and will crash if the slightest thing isn't correct, while Xm3smps is more laid back. One of the bugs of Xm3smps is desyncing of music if a pattern of the orignal file does not start with a note. With that note, I had to make some sacrifices in music quality :(.

The original song is "Insert Coin" from modarchive.org; I doubt that you have ever heard of it, but I could be wrong. Source files of the songs are at my site, as mentioned earlier. And actually, only a few sfx are gone, such as the Rings sfx. Something went wrong when porting the S1 sound driver to Sonic 2. In the next release, I plan on doing a major overhaul of the hack in order to improve quality, so that maybe it will be hacking contest-worthy. Even I admit that this hack isn't the greatest of all, after rereading previous posts in this thread.

    Thanks for the C&C!

Megaman 2: The Robotnik Wars, Unnamed S3&K hack
More updates are here for Sonic Loco 2! I don't have an actual new release for the hack yet, but I have some news, videos and pictures, via imageshack. See the first post for more info. The FINAL release for Sonic Loco 2 will be during the 2011 hacking contest, where I will enter this hack for the contest.

To summarize what I have done in the past month on my hack, I have added more new chunks to EHZ (now called "China Hill") for better level transitions, and made CPZ (Pinkaid Plant Zone) easier and less buggy without the CPZ tubes. I also have decided to keep the HTZ (called Rocky Mts. Zone) and the CNZ (Casino Royale Zone) the same as in stock Sonic 2, because those zones are too difficult for me. Nevertheless, I have changed the palettes in both zones, as shown in the pics. I also completed OOZ2, which you can see a video of, and which is perhaps one of my craziest levels. Furthermore, after following a top secret guide from an anonomous source, I have added an afterimage effect when speeding down the levels (like when super in S3&k). More importantly, I have fixed the Peel out sprites.

Lastly, the final release of Sonic Loco 2 will hopefully feature changed title cards, and even MORE music! There will be different songs per boss, and a hidden song per zone. This hidden song will be activated after hitting a music monitor, like in SoniNeko. Including both of these features before the hacking contest depends on how fast Selbi and Cinossu can help me code these two features in time. The songs are already composed, and just need to be inserted into the ROM after fixing some sound driver bugs. Finally, the final release will have MTZ completed, which I am currently working on.

See you at the hacking contest!
