<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->You may remember fellow Sonic fansite Sonic Paradise reported back in October that a SEGA representative informed them that a title tentatively called ‘Sonic Anniversary‘ is in the works for Wii, DS, PSP and PS3, with an Xbox 360 version to be confirmed. The title was said to be a compilation of levels from across Sonic's library of past games in a mix of 2D and 3D and adapted to todays generation of consoles.

Sonic Paradise's latest podcast has revealed that a Nintendo 3DS version of the game is also in the works, a detail they say was lost in the initial reports. If this information is true, then this could mean that the Sonic 3DS game in development could be a version of this game, rather than its own exclusive game for the format.

Take this rumour with a pinch of salt for now until we hear some official details regarding future games from SEGA.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

With a little bit of theorizing, and assuming they don't try and pull anything with console-exclusive levels or such, I imagine there probably would be three or two versions between the six consoles.

PS3/360, I assume where the main dev team is
Wii, then ported to PSP and 3DS with lower poly models... alternatively, they might pull an All-Stars Racing and use an engine that code wise could work on both the HD consoles and the Wii.
DS, which might end up being another Rush engine game if the higher end consoles play like Unleashed/Colors. It'd be nice to see a new engine though.

    Wow, that's even more platforms than <I>Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing</I>.

...which I hope indicates they've got a game they're confident in the quality of. That's <I>A LOT</I> of shelf-warmers if they get it wrong.

Not to be that guy, but can someone round up all the reports/articles on this anniversary game so far? From earliest to latest, just so we have a better idea of what's happening.

  8. After doing a quick google search, I can assert that MOST of them are just copies of the original October slip announcement, some of them being music reveals and rumors

EDIT: Yep, another google search and all I can find is October 9th and March 1st in the dates.

All I need is an estimate of when we'll start to hear news and I'll be satiated for now.

    I assume around April.

Actually, Sega is going to have a press event soon: <a href="http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=149668" target="_blank">http://www.gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=149668</a>. And Alan Pritchard said in an interview new games would be announced in the first quarter of the year.

If it really is releasing on all of those platforms- I don't have much hope. I'd rather see a well packaged, one or two console release rather than milking it onto every platform under the sun. Mind you, I'd expect nothing less from SEGA these days.

Who's willing to bet that there will be an iPhone/iPod Touch/Android/Windows Phone version as well? May as well whore out this game for all it's worth, right? :v:

EDIT: Aw heck, why not. PC/Steam/Mac, too. :P

Oh Man. I want ... no ... Need them to announce this.

Possibly with some stills or even a trailer. Oh man, even a Sonic 4 style trailer (5 seconds footage and 25 seconds filler) would satisfy me for now.

Regarding the amount of consoles. They could still be doing an incredible game and covering all console for maximum profit.

To be fair I would rather them release it on all consoles from the start than release it on one and then spend the next 8 months releasing it on a variety of different consoles.

I don't suppose we could be getting information at GDC... that would be too perfect.

And I would like to hope that whatever version we get on the 3DS is in the same vein as whatever console game we'll be getting. The platform is capable of it.

Rumoured handheld title gets "no comment"

With the impending 20th anniversary of Sega's lightning fast blue hedgehog, you'd think the company would be laying out grand celebration plans by now.

Instead, Sega's declined to comment on rumors suggesting that a Sonic title is on the way for the Nintendo 3DS to coincide with his birthday celebrations.

The rumor was first sparked when Sega teased a number of celebratory projects back in January.

However, when asked about plans by ONM [Official Nintendo Magazine] Sega opted to stay quiet, offering only a "no comment" response.

Sega brand manager Ken Balough said this week fans "won't have to wait years" for the next episode of digital platformer Sonic the Hedgehog 4.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Sega are really are putting some effort in to keep this secret. If that Sega representative had not slipped up back in October we would know nothing about the game. However, when merging all of the news together it does give credibility that the title is legit. The Sega leak (that was proved to be genuine) also referenced the title. We still need this confirmed though with some hard information (and screenshots please Sega).

Dude. I did my best to source all of the news in the OP of this thread. I carried out an extensive search. The only missing information are the more up to date reports (music news, the Sega press event, and Sega's response to the phone call).

Oh well, I'll have to get it for 360 then.

I just hope they don't end up rushing it for this year, I'd rather have a polished 20th anniversary game next year than a buggy one this year.

Ahaha, seriously, I just lost my shit.

On the multi-platform thing, it's starting to become both a blessing and a curse that hardware is starting to become so radically different from one brand to the next. More versions of the same title make me feel like I'm missing out if I don't play them all. Sonic Colours on the DS is, IMO, superior to the Wii version but they're both brilliant so I now, unfortunately, own both of them.

(If they release Sonic 4 on Android, that's probably going to get a buy as well. I played the iOS version at a meet in London and the only reason I don't have that version is because, well, I don't have an iOS device. :/)
