I honestly think the positives and negatives depend on one's vision of gaming/achievement.

I myself (I am quite the "must get everything type") am happy the S Ranks aren't easily obtainable. It sorta brings me back to the game to make sure I get the achievement.

I really love the project though, major props to Falk on the music too.

I found a glitch that happens in Windmill Isle then and now. When you get into the 2D section, the camera glitched and turned the opposite side for me so I really couldn't see what was coming up ahead. I have not one idea what caused it and it lasted all the way till I died.

So I'm spending a lot of time in the Generations hub right now trying to resolve some technical issues and it's just dawned on me that Falk's hub themes for this mod are like 10x better than the original game's White World themes (which kind of suck). Never really thought to compare them before I suppose. Bravo on a job incredibly well done, Falk.

I'm impressed that Jungle Joyride didn't blow up my computer. It actually ran fairly well. I think it's my favorite one in this pack as well, as all the changes to the stage (GUN truck, lack of QTEs, the rotating springs...) have made it so much better.

Why you are assuming I was using unleashed physics? No I didn't

Jungle Joyride seemed to me one of the more lenient S-ranks despite its length. Savannah Citadel is arguably one of the harder ones. Are you sure he isn't missing any of the major shortcuts?

So over the weekend, I did some long-needed maintenance on my computer (Defragging and cleaning with compressed air) and it made a world of difference in the mod. Even Jungle Joyride ran at a respectable framerate with the high-end mod, which astonished me. This mod is definitely worth the wait.

I really should defrag my HDD, but it takes entirely too long.

I'm very familiar with that stage
Now tell me how you skip those 20 seconds without skills and glitches

Wait, why not use skills? I mean Accelaration + Blast Off (the jump technique is what I usually do) should help.

Well, if ya don't want to use skills, try to make shops over the dashpads you know slow you down. Stomp when the platform/rail you need to go is right below you. Try not to do homing attacks...

PRETTY MUCH WHAT PARAX HAS SAID REALLY.

Oh wait, you missed a shortcut at 2.15. It's a bit tough to do but it saves a few seconds. (well, I think it does) Oh and around 2:28, there's no need to homing attack any of the enemies, just go for the switch and then the spring. The part at 3:55 can be done faster. The part at 4:16, ya really don't need to homing attack those enemies.

That should be it. Pretty sure you can bring down quite the chunk if you follow this.

What's the meaning of playing the game if we can even get S-rank without any skills? Also I was basing on how to get S rank in unleashed, although the ranking system is different but it should be fine to get an S-rank in that way.

err what? The ranking system in Unleashed is not even remotely similar to Generations. In Unleashed you need to kill enemies, do tricks, collect as many rings as possible, get high speed bonuses, etc. while still trying to go fast. In Generations, all you need to worry about is making sure you beat the level as fast as possible with 100 rings. Since you get well over 100 rings just in the course of playing through the level, all you need to do is speedrun it. If you do it the same way you do in Unleashed you'll waste a bunch of time for no reason. :P

Anyway, I watched your video. You spent a lot of time screwing around with enemes unnecessarily (notably before the truck chase and near the end of the level, but in other places too) and you missed a couple shortcuts - like going left at the second water-running part, not waiting around on the moving thorn in the 2D section (if it's blocking you you can shoot up instead of waiting for it to move), boosting over the fake springs at the end instead of jumping up the moving platforms. You missed a bunch of other smaller optimizations too (like boosting through some homing attack chains instead of doing them normally and jumping over or going around ramps instead of using them), but it's those other two things that are costing you the most time.

Still, I think it's quite harsh to those who is newb to play Sonic Generations, I think 4:30 and 999 rings is already enough for S Rank

tl;dr: complaining about how S Ranks are too hard if you're a novice.

This is a chance to improve yourself! Why lower the vaulting pole when you can practice to reach greater heights? :eng101:

It's more about the fact that speedrunning is now more important than destroying enemies, collecting enemies, and doing well in all areas. I prefer Unleashed's ranking system.

But this isn't Unleashed and this isn't Unleashed's ranking system. Generations's ranking system is based mostly on time. That's just how it is. There's no way to port over the entire ranking system from Unleashed. :P If Generations's ranking system was more like Unleashed, I'm sure Dario would have balanced it so you needed a good score to get an S-rank, just like he did with this system - you'd need to kill a lot of enemies, get good speed/ring/time bonuses, etc... but Generations doesn't count any of that, so that's what you get.

I personally don't like traditional score attacking like in Unleashed. So in Unleashed I simply never bothered getting all S-ranks. Same thing here if you don't like speedrunning. But Dario can't change the ranking system to include those other elements... that's beyond the capability of modders.

There's nothing to be done about it. Generations simply doesn't support accounting for these things in the rankings.

Ah! So that's the problem. I thought everyone was arguing that these type of ranking factors were purposely removed by the modders. Okay then.

Not at all. Trying to introduce that sort of ranking system into Generations will be very complicated since you need to calculate speed bonuses at check points, trick/style points, enemy points for targets destroyed, and redoing time and ring categories.

If someone out there thinks they're up to the challenge of doing so (which requires knowing the game's programming better than these guys), then by all means, give it a swing.

As an aside, actually, would it be possible to retexture Empire City with Crisis City assets? I'm curious how that would look like.
