Yes, because Egg Robos were such a threat in the original level.

Hmm, the truck chase still doesn't have enough of the old effect of "oh, its far away now... *turns corner* OH FUCK ITS RIGHT BEHIND ME!"

They kind of were if you sucked.

I mean playthroughs like these you actually have to pay attention to which enemies are in the level. The EggRobots, you're right, aren't much of a threat but due to the nature of Sonic 3 and 2D movement they were far more of a threat than they appear to be in Generations.

I'm certain playing through Sonic 3 for the first time you would get hit by them a lot. This doesn't appear to be the case in Generations, the game where you can fight gigantic badnicks while racing Knuckles---giant badnicks that are just springs with no real threat. As I said before I'll hold my judgement but I haven't seen any challenging badnicks as of yet.

They're now even less of a threat :P Nah, they should have added a couple other S3K badniks to the stage for the sake of variety. Enemies are too easily defeated in this game. The attack very slowly, and usually have no kind of defence.

The other day I was thinking, Badniks seemed to be more dangerous back then.
But then I came to realize replaying the games, they are really easy to avoid and kill.
Motobugs are still weak, etc... etc.... so as Eggrobos for example. I didn't change that much really
(And I don't want life bars or something like that on non-bosses, that was annoying in heroes, thank you.)
Actually to hit me they really need to be very cheap like in Metropolis or Sandopolis....

EDIT: I enjoyed the Eggrobo blocking your way, it's nice seeing enemies trying to stop you without just resorting to direct violence.
I woudn't mind if this would be used more times, gives some "challenge" to them and being faster than them to avoid it fits on the sppedy side of "Sonic" games.

On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
The only difference with the Egg Robo in Generations is that the camera's further away—ergo you have more time to react. They are otherwise literally the same badnik.

The black-and-red version in the Modern stage looks like a bit of a bitch, though. And I approve. I've been saying for years that the Homing Attack needs to face some decent countermeasures, and "badniks and point-blank you with missiles to the face if you come at them the wrong way" certainly qualifies.

Were you playing the same games as me?

Sonic CD is a case where the levels focus on the levels themselves and enemies are uncommon, but the enemies that are actually in the level pose a real threat to you, for instance,

Sonic 1 Scrap Brain Zone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etYm-43N2h0
    Sonic CD Metallic Madness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMPBxB49Zi4&feature=related#t=30s
    Sonic 3 Launch Base: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBysZ4rFntM
*insert any level from Sonic 2...*

If you sucked, you would get hit and you would lose your rings, it's as simple as that really. Looking at the videos coming out of Sonic Generations, the punishment just isn't there like it used to be in the franchise. Part of me likes to think that Sega still hasn't truly adapted to 3d platforming yet. Sonic has all sorts of abilities now to cope in a 3d environment, like the homing attacks, but the enemies/badnicks themselves have experienced no such evolution, still using those 2d tactics in a 3d environment which simply don't work anymore. This only applies to Generations/Unleashed, not sure about Colors. The enemies in the Adventure series properly adapted to 3d in my opinion.

I mean, back in the day you couldn't "walk past" a badnick, you either killed it or jumped over it, or even go under it. But now in 3d you can simply just step to the side and walk past them, that adds an entire new dimension to avoid/take out enemies. The homing attack just adds to that new dimension. But like I said before, the enemies have no such ability to cope in the new dimension. Like Solaris said though, adding black eggrobos that can countermeasure your homing attack is good, we just need to see more of that in the other enemies. And that's what I hope to see moving forward.

    Uh oh.

  9. They said Classic wasn't ever coming back when Sonic 4 was in the works.

Less than a year later, Classic returns in a new game Generations.

I'm not believing a word of it for now.

Yes I mean those games, there are probably of course some differences, mainly because the lack of enemies that can counter the homming attack.
But I still stand from what I said, except cheap ones like Shellcracker and family, they are easy to kill and even avoid. Lauch Base (yes even in Sonic 3 alone) for example being one where I can ignore a bunch of enemies without even thinking.
But I can say that the gap in difficulty regarding badniks isn't that big as is usually stated.

    With reason.
It's quite simple, if successful they will gladly do it again to grab our money, if not they will stick in what is selling right now.

We've already been told this on previous occasions. However, I would not take anyone's word outside of Sega of Japan of this being the case. Anyone else is just glorified PR translators. However, I believe we have word from Iizuka of the same vein, but still, things change.

Furthermore, I think by using what they learned here and combining it into a single Sonic so there's less division and more of a cohesive game will be excellent in the future. Generations looks fantastic, but it's what it represents for the future that gets me the most excited!

Sonic Team sucks, what a shocker!

Sonic 4 Episode 2 should be fun. Lots of homing attack and 8-foot skinny Tails in a mech warrior suit fighting tiny-head Robotnik with clown music.

Didn't someone just post an interview or something a few pages back that said SEGA probably was going to do more with Classic Sonic?

They're probably saying they have no plan for more classic sonic so they can "surprise" us when they make a dramatic trailer featuring him for a new game in the near future.

    ...right? :S

(TBH they are probably holding out to see how well Generations does first. No shit?)

I honestly felt a little sad, but really, you guys are debating weather or not this is going to happen? Seriously? o.o

It's buisness. If Generations does good SEGA'll think it's because of purist fanboys who want a fat hedgehog roughly the size of a CRT Television with black eyes. Thus, he'll come back. Because everyone wants the CLAYSSIC SONIC style.

The only thing that concerns me about this is that there'll be a significant lack of classic gameplay returned sans Sonic 4 and the Sonic CD remake; I could give a shit less about design as long as the gameplay is fun. Episode 1 was not fun, but not because of "MAWDERN SAWNIK'S" design being used instead; simply because it just wasn't fun. Generations looks fun for reasons other than design choices. I hope you guys can see that.

It's getting old hearing you complain about things that aren't really there, there wasn't even an argument.

Well nor really argument, complaints about Classic possibly not being in a future title :V and my apologies.

That said, dear God those remixes. Can't wait for this game; Sky Sanctuary looks and sounds magnificent and City Escape sounds quite amazing! Looks are the same as before though, but wow, that open world environment... WHY doesn't this game have proper camera controls?!

    Edit:
I guess debate was the wrong word then; I saw people going "baww nore more classic?!" and others go "take it with a grain of salt," sooo... Yeah, end of descussion. Moar talk about how that guy skipping through that It Doesn't Matter mix was a complete injustice :V

Kogen is a whiner, big surprise!

I can't remember the source at the moment, but it has been known for quite a while now that the return of classic Sonic was a one-time thing, just for this anniversary game. Nothing new here, just a confirmation.
Why are people sad about that? (Well, this is Sonic Retro...)

Talking about the character design: I don't care. Classic Sonic and "modern" Sonic are so close visually that only fan(atics) notice and care about the differences. I thought it was funny and telling how many people were wondering "why does Sonic have a son now?" when the first footage of the two Sonics appeared. Not to mention the "what, classic Sonic has buckles on his shoes now?" reactions of people who thought they new classic Sonic...
Talking about the gameplay: well, the "classic" gameplay in Generations isn't too far off from the modern gameplay in 2D sections we have now. Modern Sonic could easily provide a further refined 2D gameplay more akin to the classics in future games. Yeah, seems unlikely, I know.

And yes, if there's really such a great demand for more games featuring classic Sonic, Sega will go where the money is. But don't confuse a vocal minority in places such as this with the majority that simply doesn't care about these small differences.
