Unleashed and Colors both took me about 15 hours to complete (all S ranks, all red rings/medals) and that included a fair bit of dicking around, so I expect Generations to be about the same for me.

  2. Maybe I'm just being a little too skeptical.

This still has to be one of the most content-filled games in the series.

Here is my message to anyone who feels bad about the game being short:

Sonic Unleashed would not have been much longer than this or Colors. But then to make it longer, there was the medal hunt.

A short game is better than a long game that's only long because of lame filler.

No Sonic game since SA2 has taken me more than 3 days to beat, so it'd be about average. And though SA2 took a while, it was mostly due to the horrible parts of Crazy Gadget which made me want to rip my hair out in frustration.

As for the originals, they didn't take terribly long either. Well, except for the annoyingly finicky parts of Sonic 1. Sonic 2 on the other hand could be bested by me even when I was 6 years old, though it took me a whole year.

If it's time you want, it's probably best to chase long and extremely detailed RPG-like games instead.

Sonic games are just short games. I actually beat Sonic Heroes on the Gamecube, all Chaos Emeralds and all in about 4 hours over two days. Sonic Adventure took me four days, and Adventure 2 took three. That's withou the collectibles though (emblems in many cases). Sonic Colours took 20 hours to find all the collectibles and get Super Sonic, which I think is a pretty good time to spend on a game.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't want to have a game which takes forever. If I wanted one of them I'd play Metroid or Zelda!

Length in Sonic games come from replayability, not amount of content.

How have you guys not realized this after 20 years I don't know. A bunch of you have been replaying the demo.

10 hours is considered a short game? You guys do realize that's almost half a day, right? It's a good portion of the time most people are awake during the day considering they get at least 8 hours of sleep. I don't know about many of you, but I can't sit and play a game for 10 straight hours.

Then again I never saw the appeal in games that require more than 20 hours for basic completion. I'm usually bored out of my skull by then. inb4 someone doesn't realize that there are exceptions to this

A 20 hour Sonic game would be sweet, but it'd also have twice the normal levels of a Sonic game.

Which would translate into it taking at least 1.5x the time to come out.

In which time you could just have two different full games instead, with just a little more wait for the second one of course.

    So, yeah.

  10. A 10 hour game isn't bad, but it sure as hell isn't worth 50 dollars. Of course, everyone has different play habits, but any average gamer can knock out a 10 hour game on a weekend, or 4 days at the most.

I'd hate to see you guys maintain this hobby back in the 80's and 90s. If you're bothered paying full retail price due to the length of a game I'll be amazed if any of you kept playing video games.

Just realized, only one week left till this comes out. Where does time go? The gamestop I went to the other day was covered in ads for this game, with at least 50 fake cases on display. I need to stop reading this topic before I ruin everything for myself.

Most games aren't 40-hour long epics, falling into the 6-12 hour mark. I don't really see what's so upsetting about Generations falling in that average.

Then they shouldn't spend all day playing games. I personally only play for about 2 hours or so then I go to sleep, or watch anime or TV.RPGs have been the most lengthiest games I've every played. Tales series usually is about 60 hours, not counting the side quests. Some people have clocked 1000 hours in Disgaea 0_O. But to said a 10 dollar game is worth 50 dollars is kind of, eh. Hell, I beat Crysis 1 and 2 in a day. The game maybe was only about 6 or 4 hours long.

A short game can be worth full price- it's all down to how entertaining the time you spend with the game is. I bought Sin & Punishment II at $50. I don't regret that purchase.

I also just bought Disgaea 4 at $50. I don't regret that either!

Sometimes a game is extremely packed with content; sometimes it focuses on a small amount of highly-polished content. Both are valid approaches.

  16. I know I brought it up, but can we stop with the off-topic debate? It's all subjective, so discussing it further won't really accomplish anything.

SO THAT'S IT. THE LINE MUST BE DRAWN HERE :colbert:

  18. This. The reason people keep going back to the classics is because they're still fun without all the extra content that games feel the need of shovling in to make people purchase it. I can play through the Genesis games, as well as Sonic Advance and Rush as I think they're fun, not due to some extra thing I'm trying to unlock. While extra stuff is nice to have, I hope Generations is replayable in it's own right so I can still be playing it 10 years from now.

    EDIT:
This is hilarious. I thought I needed to tell you that.

Agreed, especially if you consider that people are still finding secrets in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Did it happened in the demo like I understood you or you had it hacked? The one video with the fire shield got me interested. I see is it in the demo too.
