That's nothing, Sonic Team have used Classic Sonic as their logo for ages.

No but seriously, that is some good observation, but I think it should change, It doesn't seem right.

    EDIT: Ninja'd again

I thought it was familiar. Now I know why.

Bloc Party? Sega's amping up the quality and class, I see.

Sheer unfinishedness. If you want to say either side is dominant, it'd be M.Sonic right now. His stage goes on for at least 2 mins (that's taking the 1 min time jump into consideration btw) whereas C.Sonic's only lasts a minute and a half. Probably pretty negligible this early on though anyway.

@ 0r4ng3: It's not likely to have anything to do with the game.

Just to quickly comment on the whole speed boosters in the classic games issue: level design, level design, level design. Chemical Plant Zone, Stardust Speedway, Hydrocity Zone, Launch Base Zone, whichever you want to pick, they still had uniquely stellar level designs that didn't feel the same despite using some similar or identical gimmicks. It's all about the approach to conceptualizing and building these stages, as well as the just-as-crucial approach to presentation. Speed boosts and bounce mechanisms were a common phenomenon in the classic Genesis titles, but they were not ubiquitous and they always fit the stages they were in by having a unique design or a twist; even the bumpers. You could not find the same iconic bumpers from GHZ or the speed boosters in CPZ in every act, and in the acts that shared them they were "well-spaced" throughout the given act and surrounded by other unique gimmicks endemic to the zone. This gave the designers some creative liberty to splurge on one given gimmick in one particular zone: for Sonic 1 it was Spring Yard Zone; for Sonic CD it was Collision Chaos, Wacky Workbench (the ground is basically a uniform static bumper) and Stardust Speedway; for Sonic 2 it was Chemical Plant Zone; and for Sonic 3 & Knuckles it was Hydrocity Zone, Launch Base Zone and Flying Battery (arguably among the best uses of bumpers and boosters).

Ultimately, I don't think conception of the level design should begin or center on the quota/rationing of basic traditional bumpers and boosters in Classic's case or the grind rails, boost hoops, boosters and bumpers in Modern's case. It should be more creative and off-the-wall than that. More abstract and fun to come up with or implement. Start generic and interesting, and then gradually become more specific and applied.

Has anyone noticed that Classic Sonic's Jumping sound seems to alternate between the Sonic CD Jumping sound and the Original Jumping sound in the Official Trailer? Could the video be made of footage from various builds? - I'm going to listen to them again just to make sure I'm not wrong (I think I may be).

Sounds are added to trailers after the footage has been recorded. Best example is C.Sonic having a voice clip in the trailer. Ruby said he's mute and even commented on the fact that the voice clip was wrongly added to it.

Either way, the jumping sound effect in the gameplay video is entirely new.

Much like the spindash and rolling sounds. What about the spring sound?

To be honest, I'm not exactly a fan of the Sonic CD jump sound as I prefer the traditional Mega Drive jump sound, but at least the characters are being separated in terms of many things, including sounds.

Also, I typed up an article here regarding my opinion on Sonic Generations. If you haven't got anything better to do, feel free to read it.

The spring sound seems to be the exact same, for now at least. I think it's good that way.

That's what a next-gen Sonic should look like. Even though it's just a prettier version of some of his earlier art poses.

Also, enjoyable read SOTI, it's always nice to read someone's well thought-out opinion on these new games, rather than just a few small paragraphs. I think Flying Battery inclusion is a requirement, and I can't imagine how it'd look or playout right now. I can imagine tears. Yes, much tears.

In regards to time being played with, I assume someone has mentioned time stones already. Surely those will come into play if they're going to remake any Sonic CD levels, and have time-distortion being an element in a Sonic game.

I just can't get over how strange it is to see that classic Sonic render. It's been over 11 years since we've last seen a classic Sonic render of any sorts.

It's lookin good though I can say that much

However personally I prefer the art they made for Sonic with the signpost. Now THAT is my ideal classic Sonic right there. No ass face and all. Perfect

It feels weird for me too. It's like Sean Connery from 1962 traveling to the present and becoming Bond again.

He's still got it on the signpost, it's just not too clear because of the quality and his expression. As the gameplay trailer shows, C.Sonic has a lot of expressions going on. He moves his brow a lot. His eyes go wide when when he's happy (signpost) and narrower when he's looking cool (the art).

The one thing I hope SEGA won't do is show every level besides the final level before the game gets released. They did this with Unleashed and Colours and it ruins some of the interest I have while playing the game because I already know what the next level looks like.

I suppose so, but the artwork renderings seem to make Sonic's eyes a bit smaller, perhaps this is intentional as in the old games the artwork and the actual in game character never really matched up.

Here is something of interest that nobody seemed to mention, anybody else notice how at the start of M.Sonic's game play section in that extended video that he already has a full boost bar before the player is even in control?
It appears SEGA isn't even trying to normalize boost at this point, honestly if they want it like this might as well remove the boost bar entirely and just let the player spam to their hearts content... Don't get me wrong I'm not bitching, this game looks amazing but that's always a gripe I had with Unleashed, sure I found it much more entertaining than Colors with the crazy speed but that's more due to the amount of 3D sections in Unleashed. It's a shame too, Colors looked like it was on the right track to normalizing the boost, if only there were more 3D sections as well as more varied. Other than that, fantastic work SEGA I can't wait!

Edit: I'm referring to the HD Unleashed and not Wii.
