Retail games have higher budgets than downloadable games, so of course the graphics are much better.

GHZ M.Sonic's gameplay seems to be way too automated and basic "run forward". Of course I understand it's first stage and all but Tropical Resort Act 1 had much more to do especially after going through the game and unlocking more gimmicks. Even Apotos wasn't this simple and automated.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Unfortunately, this game doesn't seem to have unlockable gimmicks. It's too bad that this game is going back to a more a core kind of gameplay, devoid of a gimmick that could never have survived longer than a single game without altering the focus of the series.

    sadface.jpg

Sarcasm aside, GHZ, EHZ, and AIZ don't have much else to do but go from left to right either, with a couple options to go backwards along the way (which I'm seeing in these gameplay videos, might I add). Nothing to really worry about.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Good job at completely missing the point.
Maybe if you read all of my post you would understand what I was talking about.
I was referring to M.Sonic's gameplay. And I say that even though Day Apotos and Tropical Resort Act 1 were pretty automated but they were not to such an extreme degree.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Woah settle down. You act like I'm attacking you personally. Is it so much to ask for someone to respectfully correct someone who's made an obvious mistake? Oh silly me, this is the internet!

That said, there really hasn't been much to see of M.Sonic's gameplay yet. The differences between levels lie in the subtleties. It's fine to think that it looks to be too automated at this stage, but it's way too early to hold fast to that opinion. Not only that, but Colours is way more focused on the 2D aspect of Unleashed-style gameplay. Using Tropical Resort as an example isn't going to work, especially when you're talking about things that add depth to more 2D gameplay. That's what C.Sonic is there for.

As for the Apotos example....they only showed us the blazingly fast portions of the level the first time around then, too. Too early to make a final judgement. Not saying you are. Just in case you decide to blow up again :colbert:

    1. Sonic 4 was like the result of us bitching about 3D Sonic. This is the result of us bitching about Sonic 4. Its only a logical progression.

    2. Dimps made Sonic 4, Sonic Team's making this.

    3. Sonic Fan Remix was post-Sonic 4, right? I can't remember exactly.

Something I've been thinking... What if this game were to explain why Greeneyes is in Sonic 4? I doubt it'll happen, but it'd at least give some sort of explanation outside of "lol he's always looked like that."

Maybe going back in time will inspire Eggman to go back to his earliest creations? Or something like that.

Obviously it'll be a result of the time holes in some way. Then at the end of Generations they'll switch places in the timeline and Classic Sonic will take over in Sonic 4 WHOOPS SPOILER ALERT.

They'll probably clean up Sonic's look, physics, and level design in Episode 2 and not bother with stuff like that. As for Generations, it still begs a lot of questions about the direction of Sonic games from then on, and whether or not C.Sonic will continue being regarded/used as a separate character. The latter isn't as important as how the 3D gameplay evolves and takes shape, like whether or not it will ever be truly controllable in a non-linear 3D environment again and whether or not we'll see Adventure Fields, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, or other characters worthy of good gameplay implementations, but it can and probably will function as an important visual indication of SEGA's direction and quality management for Sonic games. That is, if anything really changes after Generations.

Yes, this is clean footage from the interview. It showcases the ability to do combo tricks as Modern Sonic. Awesome stuff! MUCH better than QTEs or randomly mashing the "A" button.

Enjoy, guys!!! Can someone rip it and put it up on YouTube?

Hnnnnggggnnnnn I need to play this game now. This game looks gorgeous too, I cannot wait to see the rest of the Zones/levels with these kind of visuals.

The soundtrack for this game is going to be so fucking good.

It depends on who is involved. I mean, I don't want Jun Senoue touching the entire game because we all know what happened last time and it didn't sound good at all. It seems that they're just keeping the Classic Sonic parts with the original music and layered drums while the Modern Sonic levels get remixes. Just my take on things.

Jun Senoue probably did Green Hill Zone, listening to the clearer footage.

Also, I was totally right about uncurling and the boost music changing tempo, rather than having that airy noise filter.

    Seriously? Seriously?

I'm far more excited for this than I was for Colors, and it's got nothing to do with C.Sonic being there, or the awesome job they did with GHZ's rehash. The 2D-centric gameplay looks phenomenal. It looks fun. The 3D-centric gameplay looks varied, and concentrated on blasting through as fast as possible.

    I...I can't....

Sega. I hate this meme with an undying fury but please. I'm begging you. Reach into my wallet and grab as much cash as you want. Please.

Oh wow, that looks so much fun to play.

Only complaint (oh shut up, you know I'm gushing over it on this inside) is that around halfway through Modern Sonic's section my mind was going "okay, this looks cool, but we're switching back to 3D view soon, right? Riiiight?". Same problem I had with Colors, but at least it looks less severe this time.

I have the overwhelming urge to excuse any lack of gameplay evolution on the basis of the overall presentation alone. But that's what happens when all you have are trailers, derp. And I say "derp" again.

Don't consider this a complaint per se, but the modern gameplay is definitely lifted from Unleashed, bringing with it the same now-ubiquitous gimmicks of grind rails, speed ramps, speed boosters, boost hoops, and linear boosting mileage with an underused jump button. I wouldn't say this is bad if you enjoy the thrill and spectacle of Unleashed gameplay, and even if you don't, see the first sentence in this post and then see the classic gameplay mode. Unless you were really wishing for a game starring someone other than Sonic or a game that's just like the best of the Adventure games, there should be some great stuff here for everyone if not a lot.

We've only just scratched the surface with this game, and it looks FAAA~BEW-LUSSS!

I'm ignoring everything bad and go straight to the magic of this game: The landscape! The huge view, large moving waterfalls (seen in the modern Sonic's gameplay) is just so spectacular! It is also so heavy I can't even imagine how much GPU you need to run it all.
As always with 3D Sonic, it is so nice to look at it as a scripted movie.

I can't be the only one who's reminded of Seaside Hill Zone. This looks better, but they're both similar in their linearity.

I just noticed something really weird in that video. At 2:32, why does the time counter add one minute and why do Sonic's lives go from 7 to 2 in a flash of a second? Heh.

    Editing is magical like that.

So, there are at least three distinct BGMs for each stage: Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic, and Modern Sonic Boosting.
