On my butt in front of the computer. Where else?
I'm working on working up the willpower to work on learning how to make my own Sonic fangames. Not quite there yet.
    Huh. What... timing.

Well, that's that, then. I still find it odd that Sonic uncurled partway through the air rather than immediately, though.

Part-way through the air? He uncurled a split-second after he launched.

Why is uncurling even part of his moveset? Is it because they can't do the instantaneous transfer from ball to standing like back in the classic games?

I was about to ask the same thing but you already asked. I would like to know the same thing.

If they're bringing back the insta-spin dash from Adventure, it would be safe to assume that pressing the button again will cause you to uncurl on the ground and in the air. I didn't notice any on the ground uncurling, but considering it was flat out said there's no uncurling, I'm inclined to believe this is the case.

Which is a fair bit off the ground at his speed. The uncurling that occurs in Sonic 4 happens immediately, the moment you cross over an edge. I'm not saying it's proof that there was no auto-uncurl, just that it strikes me as odd. I didn't really see any transitional animation there, so I can't think of a reason why he'd stay curled at all.

But there's no point going on about it; now that we've established that there wasn't a spring in that tree, the only way this question will resolve itself is with more footage, so I guess we'll have more to go on when E3 hits.

EDIT: Veeeeery much doubt it was a manual button-press. There's no reason a player would bother pressing a roll-cancel button.

Watching the video again, Sonic does uncurl on the ground while still going at terminal velocity from a spin dash. I think we can confirm manually triggered uncurling, via SA, not automatic.

Unless there's a button to uncurl in midair, that sucker's automated. :I

My assessment of the situation is that Sonic doesn't normally uncurl, just as Ruby said, but in some particular instances, he will for one reason or another. Probably some sort of cinematic deal.

This is nothing we should get worked up about. The same goes for that one corkscrew segment at around 2:35 in the interview. It's just like that one corkscrew area in Lava Reef Zone where you're forced into a running form regardless if you're spinning or not. It's really nothing to worry over. Nowhere near as substantial as Sonic 4.

In SA1, it also ended by itself after a certain point in time. Look at the mobius-strip segment at 3:10... he just stops rolling after he slows down a little more.

Even if there were, the only reason I can imagine anyone pressing it is to deliberately fuck with us.

Another option is uncurling if you stop holding down the down button. I can see that being the case as well.

That... would be extremely silly. Fortunately, I doubt they'd do it like that.

So... yeah I am hoping to see Chemical Plant zone reeeeeeeally badly. Speed Highway is another one I'm hoping makes the grade. Stages I'm hoping to not see are the Lost World stage from Sonic Adventure, those bloody wall panels always got on my nerves as well as just how slow in general the whole stage was, plus if they include Labyrinth Zone or Hydrocity then what would be the point ya know?

I don't know, maybe both of them are either iconic or well-loved levels. Or both.

    Yes.
    No.

Asking for a physics test this early in development isn't exactly the best of ideas - after all, there's a fair chance they could be changed later on.

    *embarassed*

Sonic Jam is my favourite game because it disabled the time limit. Too many times I was pigging around in a level and died a miserable death.

No uncurling? I see that C!Sonic's hideous eyebrow ridge is the only thing I have against him.

I've seen that crop up on very respectable forums.
