Only skimmed through it, but new details:

    - Missions include racing against the Tornado (with Tails as the pilot), a version of Green Hill with breakable platforms and races against another Sonic.
    - Enemy placement is also different in the missions and they can have completely different looking areas.
    - The missions have more remixed music, including Super Sonic Racing.

I wonder if it's this remix:

They also apparently have a time limit this time, I guess to prevent them from breaking the level. I think it's a good change considering this is Sky Sanctuary and not Marble Garden.

I'm really pleasantly surprised by the side-missions this game has. Usually they're just shortened versions of the levels with more items, or more enemies and the like. But racing the Tornado, bigger enemies, etc, sounds fun and refreshing. They'll surely up the replayability a fair bit, perhaps even more than SA2's dozens of side missions?

So here's a question: this is like the third playthrough we've got of Sky Sanctuary Classic. When's someone going to show the modern stage?

Or Insta-Shield? Or Better Rolling (which shouldn't be an acquired "skill" anyway)? Or Super Peel-Out?

Super peel-out? Really? Did you see the spindash?
Insta shield would be neat though

I by no means think the Peel-Out is necessary, I just think it would be a nice touch to have as a novelty skill. It just would be really cool for them to add it for nostalgic reasons.

Would also make the Metal Sonic Race feel slightly more at home even though now it's a boss fight... Though I'm sure there are moments you'll need to speed up.

Anyway, skill customization... Unfortunately Classic getting a homing attack is going to throw a shitstorm for the purists unless they just get it through their thick skulls that is's an unlockable; as in, you don't want it, you don't use it.

    Also insta shield yes please.

EDIT: Those things under the points card... It has two brown things with white and pink circles in the middle. Act 1 says 3/15 and Act 2 saying 0/15. What are those...?

EDIT 2: Reguarding the second interview shown...

    1) "We can pretend Crisis City from Sonic 2006 never happened."

    Nope, sorry.

    2) "'Boost to win,' says sneering fans, doesn't apply here."

    It sure doesn't...

"Oh, Webber told me, maybe they could have had Classic Sonic talk, if only they'd gotten actor Jaleel White on board. I didn't know that White—better known as the nerdy Urkel in the 90's sitcom "Family Matters"—had played classic Sonic in a bunch of cartoons. He did. HE would have been appropriate, but Sega couldn't get him. Thus mute Classic Sonic will have to listen to Modern Sonic yammer on."

...What. How... What? I'm not sure if Webber was being serious here or not.

I like how at one minute in the player is clearly trying to do a spindash, bit it simply does not work. I cannot figure out how something like this is not apparently going to be fixed.

    Also Kotaku sure are pros!

Serious or not, if the writers pull off the story, it might end up being a blessing in desguise. Hell, maybe they'll find a funny reason to his lack of speach in the Classic era.

Though, it would probably have been cool if Jaleel White could have voiced Classic. If his co-star voiced Tails, assuming that was a woman and not a little boy voicing Tails, ends up voicing Classic Tails, I will be either confused or annoyed, maybe both. :S

It was a little boy who used to voice Tails. Also, if they get Classic Sonic to speak, I'm not bothered, Sonic hasn't had a personality change, he's just evolved on to platforms that allow speech. However, they should get him to say things at a bare minimum, like "Yeah", "Okay!", and "I'm outta here!", rather than having too many huge conversations. Classic Sonic also should convey what he's thinking more often in his motions, and it seems they've got that to a tee.

That happens when you don't rev up the spin dash properly, but only press the jump button once while crouching. Seriously, this has been known for ages, have you never played the demo?

Can't tell if this is meant to be ironic. I hope so, because they are morons. Not for that "Sonic on SNES" business, but for riding on the bullshit Sonic Cycle and even trying to apply it to "real life".

    smh

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
I'm going to go on record as saying I personally feel Classic Sky Sanctuary has the best layout of any level in any Sonic game in over a decade.

Remarkable use of 2.5D, with different paths actually being on completely different planes and headed in different directions, and the level wraps around itself in such a way that it manages to take up a fairly small amount of physical space for a rather large playable area.

And in spite of the changes in palette, it really does feel like Sky Sanctuary, when you see the direct feed footage rather than some off-screen nonsense.

How come nobody commented about the Mighty and Ray cameo in City Escape?

I'd like to take a look at the 3D model for Classic's Sky Sanctuary map, it should be interesting seeing how all those connecting paths are structured within the level.
