As Jen said, we spent a sizeable chunk of time playing this at GameFEST - while I've got some pictures of the general area, Orenge's will be better as he wasn't using a phone camera, so I'll wait to see what he puts up first =P

360 GHZ Modern: Omochao (who I'm pretty sure was being voiced by Tails' VA), as noted, was in this zone and NOT City Escape (there were different demo pods running different versions of the demos - we accidentally exited out of one via the Dashboard and weren't able to get back in until a nice lady reset the console for us). This seems odd if for no other reason than he was in SA2 and not S1... I'm assuming that by the time the final game rolls around Omochao will be a selectable option on the title screen). Played well enough for what it was, didn't seem to be drastically different to the SoS demo apart from that.
360 GHZ Classic: The controls have definitely been refined a little bit - Classic's jumping is better than it was before, imo - you now know pretty much exactly where he's going to land and can plan precision jumps accordingly. Really pleased with it. The only outstanding problem, as Jen noted, was rolling - but we all know by this point this probably isn't going to be fixed.
360 City Escape Classic: Really had fun with this level, I can see Classic in Modern's stages is going to be a really good experience. The seemingly-refined jumping physics helped out here a lot too, racing around the level and feeling totally in control the whole time, one or two cockups of my own doing aside. =P
360 City Escape Modern: A lovely level up until the truck, really - I know it's the level's set piece, but considering I beat the thing by basically holding down Down & X then held the pad one handed at arms length while chatting to Jen the entire rest of the level, it maybe goes on a bit too long considering how little interactivity there is. =P

Two odd things from the 360 version though - Jen noticed when you get 10 rings, the game applies them as a stream of 10 rings in terms of sfx, not just a single one. Wasn't there a hack that did this? Also, the GHZ demo (possibly the City Escape one as well, tbh, but the City Escape speaker wasn't working) played a music track when you cleared the level none of us could recognise - see what you make of this thing I recorded by holding my phone up to the speaker after I shot a video playthrough of Modern GHZ: http://overlord.digibase.ca/generations_mystery_music.mp3 It loops, incidentally.

Big Arms: Amazing music, what can you say? =P The boss plays really nicely too, he has some attacks from the original boss (like the back and forth charging, though in a nice twist he actually has two different speeds for this; and the swoop & grab attempts), as well as some new ones like punching the ground and bitchslapping you. Truely, this IS Sonic 4 as you imagined it. =P
3DS GHZ Classic: GHZ1 down to the tiles - to be honest, am I the only one not bothered by the level layout re-use on the classic stages in the 3DS version? Sure you'll have played them before, but it means there's no chance of a fucked-about layout, now with a fresh new coat of paint. :) And a 3D one at that, the levels really do look gorgeous. Physics felt pretty good as well, no huge problems at all.
3DS MHZ Classic: Again, another awesome music piece, and again, another nice zone. One nice little touch that amused me is all the Big Rings are still in place - only now, they're a circle of 8. =P
3DS MHZ Modern: Did I mention the 3D making the levels look nice? This one was probably the most effective of all, jumping in and out of the background and zooming through a mushroom-filled cave. Though this level does show where there's still some bugs to be worked out - I was on a mushroom bouncing, lost my rings by hitting a Butterfly, hit the same Butterfly again with no rings, died, and my corpse was thrown onto the mushroom, it bounced, and the system locked up. =P Had to power the thing off and back on to get it working again.
3DS GHZ Modern: Same as MHZ really, but with GHZ - a few bits of noticable popup here and there but considering we know there's a newer demo than this one there's still time for these to be ironed out.

    Awesome write-ups, guys. It's definitely reassuring. :)

Nope, I don't mind it at all. I only wish they would connect all 2-3 Acts, though.

Good to hear the 3DS version isn't as terrible as news made it seem! To be fair about City Escape though, wasn't the original version of the truck chase pretty much down with some spin dashing anyway?

Holy shit! What a great thing to see uploaded on my birthday! That Rooftop Run remix was godly. I'm also liking the way Seaside Hill looks in action (except for how the given footage makes it look so damn linear).

I completely forgot to post some shots of the Sega booth's giveaway item:

Awesome, isn't it? I hope these weren't made JUST for this show (part of me doubts this was special enough to warrant it)

I'm drawing something, not that you'll ever see it.
Sweet fricking balls that Big Arm remix is good. But so far it's the only 3DS remix I enjoyed, the rest just felt mediocre. As for the HD version, I'm loving everything we've seen so far. But it doesn't look like there's much hope for a PC version anymore, so I'll be missing out. :(

I noticed that too. I think it sounds a bit different because the bassline makes it a minor chord, but the bass itself isn't that loud so the intended effect is almost muted.

Thanks for pointing this out! Something sounds a bit weird during Seaside Hill, but it isn't a change or revamp of the music itself (and I'm not talking about the ending chord).

^This is the deal breaker for me for Sonic Generations, a lot of people asked why I'm not overhiped over this game and to some extent am more interested in the 3DS version, it's not that the game is bad but Unleashed's gameplay is just not my style, it's way too linear and dull, all you do is boost to win, surprisingly this works fine in the Rush games which I assume the 3DS version feels like, but for 3D it's blain boring and has no exploration whatsoever, not even item boxes to collect, but to me the classic gameplay is what I'm looking for in this game.

God DAMN I dig the new Chemical Plant Zone music. That shit is greatness.

And Big Arm on the 3DS? I've been listening to it all day on my phone, easily one of the best songs in the entire series thus far. Completely blows away the original.

I want that keyhain so friggen bad.

And so this post isn't a waste, I'm also in love with the Big Arms boss music. Makes me want a 3DS just for that.

  13. I've had Big Arm on loop all freakin' day. That shit just never gets old...

I think I may end up purchasing the 3DS version once I buy a 3DS.

At first the Big Arm remix wasn't that special to me, but then around the 2 minute mark it started to kick my ass. God damn, son. God damn.

Why does Classic Sonic have gray shoe soles? :argh:

Joking aside, that's a massive improvement, let's hope they keep this going until release.

  17. Yeah, that's a LOT better.

Not only does the background not suck anymore, but Sonic's model appears to have improved quite significantly. I like the totem pole, and the flowers in the foreground too.

making cool music no one gives a shit about
That makes me wonder why they showed it off in it's unfinished state in the first place.

    Check this:

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/ix3zw4 - Seaside Hill
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/p3b5rc - Rooftop Run
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/zimbaq - Chemical Plant

SSMB user Aptiva Merged the Ustream audio with Jun's video audio and got an awesome result. now we can get a clear idea of what those tracks will sound like in generations. There in .wav because he didn't want to compress them.

Also as a bonus, another SSMB user KrazyBean14 made these:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ioeld29k3ttvvtp - Chemical Plant (Modern - Speed-Up, since some were saying that the song is too slow. Possible boost version?)
http://www.mediafire.com/?f0s7z5i8w66124r - 3 Eras MegaTrack (Chemical Plant, Seaside Hill and Rooftop Run all in one!)

    These should be in .mp3.

As sendspace is a piece of shit, and WAVs are terribly large, I've taken the liberty of downloading those, converting them to FLAC, and uploading to MediaFire.
