    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
It's a way to get the music into Smash Bros. Brawl, which makes it automatically good.

I assume these BRSTMs have custom loops? Too lazy to download and find out.

Just to be absolutely clear, which note is it in the song?

I'm liking that Bigarm music too, but just for clarity, those Sonic sound effects in it are somebody playing it right? they arn't part of the song? You never know sometimes with these crazy music artists.

Here's a basic comparison, first is correct, second is what I'm hearing from the 3DS version.

<3 You're my hero. I wonder how many people are working on the music for this version. We can obviously see the different amounts of effort comparing MHZ to Big Arm (Holy Shit!).

I really can't say the tiny difference makes much of an impact. I wouldn't have noticed it without a side by side comparison. It sounds a little off, but it so easily ignorable it's not worth mentioning. The backwards rolling and spindash sounds in S4 however... rage! About the amount of people working on the music, this is what we know so far:
    Modern Green Hill: Jun Senoue
    Classic Green Hill: Naofumi Hataya
Modern City Escape: Jun Senoue, vocals provided by Ted Poley and Tony Harnell, just like in the original
Classic City Escape: Original track, remixed by Cash Cash
Big Arm: Alex Makhlouf of Cash Cash (the guy who was doing the 'singing' at TGS)

Not exactly. I mean, BRSTM looping was popularized by brawl, but it's really a proprietary looping format for Nintendo games. It just happens that its easier for me to loop music and convert it over than to split an ogg. It just loops better in the long run. (Unless of course you take to the time to set up the internal looping in the OGG which is a pain in the ass a lot of times... :/)

  9. Actually he wasn't the one singing at TGS, though he did perform at Sonic Boom. TGS was some other guy I hadn't heard of.

Funny side note, the dude from Cash Cash is cousins with the guitarist from Action Item, who I went to high school with and was a colossal dick, those bands aren't about making music they're about being famous.

Okay, so it was originally supposed to be Alex, but he couldn't attend so his brother Jean Paul (of 'Reach for the Stars' fame) sung instead.

  11. Ah I didn't know they were brothers, I reckon that's just as good

I was just browsing the Cash Cash website, and it appears that they're actually doing a lot of music for Generations. This is what their client list says:
10 Classic songs? We know of City Escape and Big Arm, but what else? I think Classic Mushroom Hill sounds like their work, and they've probably done a lot of the Modern/Dreamcast stages in Classic style too.

  13. At first I was like he's not TOO bad, but then the second half of Reach for the Stars came on and I was like wat. This guy needs vocal lessons...he should also stop prancing around the stage and fucking around with the crowd and focus on his singing. It's not like he can't sing, he's just not trying.

As for the musicsss, I'm gonna hold off until the game is released. So then I'm all ultra surprised. From the little I've heard and seen, it sounds absolutely fantastic.

Both the recently released 3DS tracks sound great. The Big Arm track is just ear-bleedingly awesome to hear in an official capacity again (and done so well, too!) and Mushroom Hill, while never one of my favourites, sounds pretty good here.

That TGS performance though? Dear god, that was fucking abysmal from Jean. People thought Sonic 4 had problems with orchestral masterpieces? They clearly need to listen to this guy sing without any form of autotune to make him 'good'.

EDIT: Okay, so auto-filter fail, though I'm sure anyone in the know will guess what I was referring to. =P

The Big Arms Remix is a thing of beauty! MHZ is most impressive as well. I wouldn't expect anything more from a Classic mix at this point - I agree with others that it's definitely on par with GHZ and CPZ classic remixes.

Here's a question. Obviously the music credits to Sonic 3 and S&K are muddy at best, but have we ever gotten a firm answer on who composed specific tracks? I know Drossin has mentioned his admittedly minor contributions to S&K, but for instance, do we know who composed Big Arms? Mushroom Hill? Maybe I'm missing an obvious wiki article...?

BTW - there's a somewhat odd and blatant deviation in Big Arms...at 58 secs (through 1m). The chord is a few notes off from the original (it sounds more 'major' in tone here). It's no deal breaker but it definitely is jarring on the ear.

    Retro delivers once again.

Thanks for the rips, Big Arm remix sounds fucking amazing. The soundtracks for both versions of this game are going to be so good.

Ok, I can hear it now. Even then, it's still barely noticeable.

I love that Big Arm music, it's just brilliant. The boss battle itself was really good too - played it a few times at GAMEfest yesterday. Here's my impressions on both versions of the game, from a couple of playthroughs of each version:

    360 Classic:

The classic gameplay on the 360 version seems to have been improved very slightly. Somehow the jumping feels much more natural than it did in the demo, I can't quite put a finger on WHY this is the case though, it just feels better; less heavy, I guess. Unfortunately the rolling hasn't been improved at all, which is a shame but it doesn't surprise me. I absolutely love classic City Escape, it's a really good level. The part where the GUN truck starts smashing through the scenery as you climb up it is really frantic, awesome stuff. There's plenty of alternate routes, some of which are made possible by the truck destroying things. The skateboard works really well, I enjoyed using it.

Overall I love it, Classic is easily the highlight of Generations for me. Really fun stuff.

    360 Modern:

Still don't like modern Green Hill as it still feels far too linear for my tastes. The gameplay doesn't seem to have changed since I played the Summer of Sonic demo, but I could be mistaken because it's been a few months since SoS. I really enjoyed modern City Escape though. The boarding section was nice and has at least three completely different routes through it (I know this because Overlord and my husband and I all went a different way on our first playthrough). It controls much better than I was expecting, particularly because you can drift around corners whilst on the board. The open sections were awesome, I wish modern Sonic would do more of this, it was a refreshing change of pace. The GUN truck was a massive disappointment; we discovered that it's quite literally "hold boost to win" - hold down and boost and you'll clear it, no problems, every single time. Those saws on top of the truck don't attack you and it just can't catch you if you boost, even when it uses its own boost at the end. I sincerely hope this is fixed before the final release (I hope it was made easier because it's a demo version or something).

My husbsand managed to get the truck stuck in a wall XD He's gonna post a quick video and a couple of pics later.

Overall, I honestly have mixed feelings about Modern Sonic's gameplay. If the other levels are more like City Escape than Green Hill and have a few of those lovely open areas, then I'll be really happy. If not, then I'll be very disappointed. But hey, that's just me, Unleashed style isn't entirely to my tastes.

    360 general stuff:

Omochao has been added to both versions of GHZ but oddly not to City Escape. Hopefully there's an option to not have him in the levels because he's just as bloody annoying as ever. Seems a bit pointless, too - "Hold the X button to boost", he says, when there's clearly an on-screen prompt that says "X (HOLD)" before he starts talking. The ranking system is definitely rigged for the demo, because I got a "perfect bonus" on some of my playthroughs even if I'd taken damage during the level.

    3DS Classic:

This feels like the console version to me, for the most part. The only major difference I noticed is that the spindash isn't quite as overpowered here, which isn't really a bad thing IMO. It's a shame that the level layouts are direct copies though.

The Big Arm boss was awesome. The music, as you know, is just amazing. He has a few different attacks which he uses at random, there's not a set order to his attacks, which made things interesting and a bit challenging at times.

Overall, I enjoyed it, it was good fun but I just wish the level layouts weren't direct copies.

    3DS Modern:

I actually quite enjoyed this. The layouts were quite nice and didn't feel like a boost-fest for the most part. There seemed to be a good amount of alternate routes. I liked the way some of the level sections are in the background, this works better than I was expecting, especially with the 3D feature of the console adding depth.

Overall, I enjoyed this too (surprisingly)! I'm really glad it's not "hold boost to win" and is generally fun to play.

    3DS general:

The 3D feature works really well with this game, and it generally looks really nice. Green Hill in particular looks really lively.
