Unless you have a crappy PC and/or hate Steamworks, wait for a sale on the PC version. It's often 66% ot 75% off, plus the mods and better framerate and resolution make it the better version.

Never made sense why the Silver Challenge was done in Tropical Resort. unless its a refference to Colors DS or something...

Chalk it up to sheer laziness, same as with Metal Sonic in Casino Night. In Colours DS, Silver appears in Sweet Mountain. Cream and a hoard of Chao occupy Tropical Resort. At least racing Shadow in Radical Highway made a little sense. Gens 3DS feels like the sort of game where the designers did the absolute bare minimum.

To be fair to the Gens 3DS developers, the whole thing was slapped together in under a year.

Yeah, but over the past few years said developers don't have the best track record anyway.

I thought Rush Adventure and Sonic Colors were both really good and overall quite fair-to-the-player, though the former's grinding for minerals was a terrible idea.

I didn't mind it... I like replaying zones and It was just that, nothing boring to do. And that way you played ALL the zones and the Hidden Islands had nice minaral combinations so you could skip other zone in favor of them :P

They've also had to tackle a lot recently...with limited time.

    Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I: October 11-13, 2010
Sonic Colors DS: November 16, 2010
    Sonic Generations 3DS: November 22, 2011
Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II: May 15-16, 2012

Sonic 4: Episode I and Sonic Colors DS probably had a decent amount of development time consider how their previous Sonic game released three year prior, but having to make their last two Sonic games in the timespan of a year and a half must have been difficult.

Needing materials to progress wasn't a bad idea, but the execution of it along with the horrendous mission system made that game way more repetitive than it needed to be.

I said as much in my review of the game for Retro, yeah. Considering the time they actually got they pulled it off quite well.

    VS. Egg Emperor:

This fight seem very cut down from the Heroes version. I know its because that fight seemed elongated due to the different team abilities you had to use.

I liked this version of Egg Emperor a lot more. It made the boss bearable.

Egg Emperor was a really dysfunctional fight in the original, if only because the best way to hit him was spam thunder shoot at his shield until team blast became available while taking hits from the cannons around that part of the arena. Also the scripting of his charge attack on the straightaways was ill-considered (triggers at really inappropriate times).

Ok here's some little curiosity I found.

This is the final version of the "White Space":

I couldn't find a typeface that matched the words GREEN HILL, I just knew it was similar to Linotype Britannic

But look at what I found:

It really is Britannic there! So the currenty font used very likely to be a modification of it!

(You can also see geometry changes on Green Hill too, specially the 'cave' entrance, also the camera is in a slightly different angle)

  16. There was a SG review made by stupid yet popular russian reviewer Vanomas. I thought that you guys would like to watch it and have a laugh, so I translated it for you.

You know, I've had a problem with the Generations model of Sonic's classic design for a while that I was unable to put my finger on until just recently. See, Classic Sonic is, at least visually, two parts of a binary compound - he's cute, yes. But, he's also a pint-sized cocky little badass that will fuck you up. Up until the overhaul that happened with Adventure, that was the prevailing mode of characterization for him, all around. This wasn't just an informed attribute - right from the beginning, when he was a promotional pseudo-mascot for Dreams Come True for like ten minutes, his accompanying tagline was, "for a cute guy, he has spines" and in the opening and closing animations of Sonic CD, to say nothing of his in-game animations in the Genesis and Sega CD games, he's nothing if not definably finger-snapping cool. This was, I feel, missing in his Generations counterpart.

I know a lot of people on this forum seem to, for some reason, prefer to see the Classic version of Sonic as a character that is completely toothless, perhaps because it's easier to digest than what we've has for the last several years. And I'm sure after I post this I'll be responded with a barrage of those Sonic the Screensaver pictures where he's like looking through a telescope or buying an apple or something. But, it feels like they intentionally forgot this element of the character for Generations, and made him as cute and as innocent a character as possible - possibly as an intentional contrast to his older self, but I couldn't really dig it.

Classic Sonic was shown to be a bit more no nonsense that Modern Sonic. Think back to the mirror scene, where Modern stopped to think about what Eggman was saying, while Classic just bolted off to get through the closing door. I agree that he was portrayed as a bit cuter and more childlike, but it's not like they totally forgot the other aspects of his character.

Besides, he's based on the cute-but-mischievous Felix, and arguably a little of guys like Pink Panther as well (which are also clever but comedic in a less cute way)

Eh, you guys might be right. But, I don't know - I think that might be one of the only major missed opportunities with this game. There's a lot of space to flesh out the differences between the two of them, at least more than they did. So much opportunity for good natured ribbing and poke-funnery - Classic Sonic, being the slightly arrogant speedball and impatient teenager, just being completely underwhelmed with his super mellowed-out do-gooder future self; Modern Sonic, trying to get him to calm down, think things through a little, stop bouncing off the wall and poking fun at everyone, stuff like that. Maybe at the end, they learn a little about themselves. . . and each other(TM).

I mean, I get that I'm basically talking about cut-scenes and character development which isn't really the focus of this game, or what they were trying to do in the first place - but, just from a writer's stand-point it seems like there's a lot of fun they missed out on.
