I would shoot Joe T.E or Twlightzoney a PM, they would probably know since they centralize in character models.

I'm doing exactly that and whenever I start up the game it gives me a window saying "Critical Error!" I don't know if I'm just not waiting long enough when it gives me that message but the game won't start with GraphicsConfig changed.

Make sure everything is the game config is correctly set. Generations does not like to start if anything is off.

Alternatively what are you trying to downsample from? Depending on your system your setup might reject it.

Have there been any major toolkit improvements recently? The time I have to actually work on mods is drying up very quickly, so I'll take anything I can get to make production faster.

Sorry if someone asked this before, but, is there any chance of someone to port a fully working Werehog or some particular objects and ideas from Sonic Unleashed (such as the button combos or even the jump panels) to Sonic Generations?

If that actually is possible I would hope someone would one day be able to port the day time Unleashed bosses to Generations as well. Those were fun.

  8. I think the jump panels were omitted on purpose. QTE aren't that hard, or even just to have automatic jump panels would be better than having a spring and then the camera going weird.

I wonder if it's possible to have actual Super Sonic (or Skill customization) in boss fights.

    Semi-Related but This is interesting:

They know what we do here and they, or at least, SOE likes it.

Mods have always been a good thing and I'm glad at least 1 SEGA sees that. now if we can hear that from Iizuka or someone from SOA that would be neat.

Pfff, I get a lot of amusement every time one of these guys use the phrase "are now becoming" with regards to modding (especially the idiots making console games and trying to figure out how to emulate LBP's success, which isn't exactly 'modding') when the culture has dated all the way back to the explosion of Doom and especially Quake/Quake2 mods.

More than half of Valve's franchises are mods. TF, CS, DoD, DotA.

edit: Also the day Japanese devs acknowledge modding is the day I'll eat noodles through my nose and film it.

I guess, but at least now developers are seeing it less as a taboo that should be stopped and more as a open medium that fans can participate in creating their own content. were more then just shills who give them money, we do have brains and very creative ones at that and these tools that developers use now a days aren't soo super top secret anymore.

I don't think the majority of PC game developers ever saw modding as a taboo. Like Falk said, more than half of Valve's franchises were originally mods. In fact, their biggest game and the most played game on Steam right now (DOTA 2) is a sequel to one.

If anything, modding has become less big as it's becoming easier to make your own games without the need to use an existing popular game.

I'm willing to bet the reason for this sudden embrace of modding is them looking at the playstats for Generations and realizing 'Holy shit, people are still playing this. Way more than we expected.'

There's a sudden embrace for modding from SEGA? They've has always accepted it, if they didn't this site probably would have been taken down a long time ago. Or at the very least we wouldn't be hosting all these hacks of Sonic Mega Drive games.

This does appear to be the first time they've acknowledged it publicly. It would be cool if the next PC SEGA game had Steam workshop support.

Well, SEGA Europe in particular, who are probably the most familiar with PC gaming seeing how they handle two pretty big PC exclusive franchises: Total War and Football Manager. The former of which does have a modding community. It wouldn't surprise me if SEGA Europe, or one of its developers, has acknowledged the modding scene before.

I recall Generations mysteriously going on sale the same time Unleashed Mod dropped. :v:
