Very nice Twi, but I would like to see some Before/After pictures. I can tell is high poly, but it's subtle.

  2. I zoomed in really close to try and pick out the difference, and noticed that your hi-poly model has really shiny gloves and socks. Why's that?

Wow! 1080P + Ambient Occlusion makes it look amazing. Especially in comparison to how it looked when I was making sure the materials and rig worked.

Also, I can sorta see the minor differences you mentioned. The weight transferring I did is a little off because the head polygons on your model were slightly different in shape from the Generations model. That, and I had to slightly alter some vertices at the bottom of his head to help close the gap between the head and the mouth (being able to see a gap between them isn't good.)

Probably a combination of slightly-off vertex coloring (imported models tend to be slightly shinier than the original models) + the higher poly count + higher-res textures with slightly different colors+details.

    Looks great.

That's not a bad idea. Your GUI could be a replacement for the configuration tool. Replicating its functionality shouldn't be too hard.
DinnerSonic is right, somebody (SSNTails) already reverse-engineered it.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
It's beautiful. This mod will be the very first I install when I get a PC I can play Generations on.

Well, do you guys want to help me test it out? If it works fine enough I'll release it.

It might look a bit barren since most people haven't documented their mods properly yet, but the support is there! Simply drop the contents of that 7z in your Sonic Generations folder. The latest CPKREDIR dll is included as well. Only thing it doesn't support yet is changing the Load Order. Shouldn't be too hard to do though.

EDIT: The Save & Play function worked fine for me, but might depend on your Steam setup. If it doesn't work out, I bet it's possible to do one of those steam calls to boot it up.

If people want their mods to show up in SonicGMI right, be sure to not do what I did, be sure to put your descriptive entries under [Desc]! A real easy fix for several mods... or was it me who added those wrongly to my copies of them in the first place? (I really need to finish tweaking and release some of those tiny mods of my own too) Also.. why does the new Classic Sonic Adventure tweak with CPKREDIR have the new save file feature added... and then commented out?

Lastly: Bugs! Or simply quirks and differences in opinions on how it should work perhaps. It seems to be a stable program so far, but it'd probably help to point out things during its infancy before it gets big?

If you check a mod, then move it up or down, the checkbox reverts. You have to save before you can attempt to sort things out... but saving also has a bit of autosorting too, so perhaps this is intentional? The positions of the Name, Version, Author and Uses Save bits revert when saving too... any chance the window could be resizable by the way?

Save & Play works fine for me, by the way, so long as Steam is open in some form as usual! Might I suggest that the About box just doesn't bother showing entries that don't exist? If someone doesn't put in the latest modification date or if they don't HAVE a URL, simply ignore the entry rather than display "URL: " like it does now.

Oops, I bumped the other thread for doing an RC1 before reading your post. Good thing it's an RC anyway. I'll get on to fixing those issues.

How do I use this thing, and without searching 148 pages, is there a place I can find mods to use? Also has anyone done a Metal Sonic model swap with Modern? I kinda have been out of the loop for a while :(

I had started one a while ago, and though it's not quite finished, I'm happy with how it's turned out so far:

I just got my computer back after sending it in for repair THREE TIMES, so I may release it soon if that's not something that would get me kicked off Youtube or something...
I just have to sort through my backup files to find everything.

If you don't have mods nor are familiar with how it works you shouldn't be downloading test versions. :P Regardless, I updated the thread now with instructions.

About Mods, well we need to point people to the ModDB page now. It's the perfect solution for making mods.

The problem with some people at youtube releasing mods is that they didn't even use CPKREDIR, but rather redistributed modified CPK files. This is no longer needed, and I hope that if SonicGMI gets used, it will be the standard used. It's really easy to use... as long as you follow screen prompts. :v:

ah cool. will cpkredir work for music replacing to? if so I need to learn to do that. Have we gotten to a point where we can rename the songs that are replaced? Sorry, again Like I said, I'm quite a bit out of the loop.

Yep, there's a guide somewhere down there explaining the whole process. Actually, I've been meaning to FRAPS this and share it with you guys for a long time.

For everyone who thought the original CHZ Act 2 music was too slow, I've replaced it like this:

    The source is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlFG1Ke8A3Y

I cut that up to make it move faster. Best of all, it doesn't loop until the point where I usually beat the level, just like the classic version!

I'm planning to add some shield monitors into my level.

So, I guess I got beaten to it. :argh:

At least, I get to say that I'm first person to add shield monitors into a 3D level. (A full level, not a test.)

I doubt you're the first person to add shield monitors to a Modern level. :colbert: Meaning that someone else has done it before and hasn't released it nor comment on it. However, I'm fairly certain that someone has mentioned they've gotten the classic item boxes to work on a modern level.

So... uh. I was just watching KAKIPI's Jul '12 run of Dragon Road and wondering why he was still trying to QSS and it wasn't till halfway through I caught myself because that -was- the Unleashed version. Take that as a compliment :V

(non-)Interesting story I thought I'd throw out there.

Well, the plan was either to release it this weekend since people have enough time to play and fix something in the submission if needed, or next week. It's already done, it just needs some minor tweaks I haven't done yet because of an exam today... We'll see how it goes. Rest assured it will be out before the 21th. Most likely in a new thread.

Oh and it'll come with SonicGMI so... get used to it. :v:

The Save & Play function worked fine for me as well after I had set it to run as admin, as I had Steam do the same so certain games could function through it.

Also, I made a little mini-mod that just changes the distance rings have to be from you to be pulled to you during a boost, as I was getting sick of having to change the variable manually every time I replaced the bb3.cpk for a character mod. If anyone else wants it, just let me know.

The point is that I cheated through the problem.

I just made a 3D level for Classic Sonic.

(Think of this as an announcement of the inclusion of shield monitors in my mod. It's nothing special or noteworthy, but I just wanted to throw an update. Although, I may have been a little too vague on it.)

Also, I'm impressed by the progress that Sonic Generations modding has reached recently.
