You don't have to do this. It's never worth playing Sonic '06.
That's not true.
A couple of years ago, I was almost starting to buy into Sonic 06 revisionism and felt nostalgic for the game. Hooking up my old 360, booting up the game and getting up to my neck in the figurative pile 15 year old rotting manure was exactly the dose of reality I needed.
If you're starting to think that 06 plays better TFH or almost any other Sonic game since, it's definitely worth re-familiarising yourself with 06 for real. It's easy to forget just how bad things really were back then.
This is why I tried to pretend he was talking about P-06 lol.
If anyone is even slightly interested in a more casual perspective on the Another Story Cyberspace stages, this let's play has finally reached them after like 15 parts of pure island completion.
After I eventually finish my first Starfield run (this is why I haven't been able to touch Final Horizon yet), I was planning on running through the whole game again before hitting up Final Horizon, because I have the feeling that not being accustomed to the controls will be a disaster ahahaha.
I wanted to ask, out of curiosity, do all of the tokens count to the island completion percentage, or does that refer to cyberspace completion/viewing all cutscenes/etc?
Before the birthday update island completion was just the amount you filled out the map, but for the birthday update they changed it so literally everything counts towards completion with handy little icons to represent how much of each you've done.
I think Frontiers is terrible but I do have sympathy for your position on interesting but messy over solid but dull. Its why I even engage with Frontiers discourse and never engaged with Forces other than the hilariously awful story.
I can respect liking TFH but there's a difference between liking and thinking somethings good is my point. I like Sonic R but it's bad. Lol. Although I respect the fact you think TFH is largely good.
I actually do think TFH is good if nothing else for the fact that the platforming in it is far, far more engaging. Sure, you *can* cheese a lot of it with tails and even knuckles infinite glide, but actually playing the platforming challenges was a treat and as someone who did play a lot of frontiers, my time with the game felt rewarding with some proper tests of the tricks ive learned.
That boss rush is awful though
The Final Horizon has tons of interesting ideas, but it only serves to highlight just how badly thought out Frontiers as a whole is. It's problems were easy to overlook when the game didn't really demand a lot from the player, I'm sure most people could breeze through Frontiers without too much issue. But then the game wants you to do precision platforming and perfect parries with an engine that wasn't designed for it. It's trying to fit a square peg into a round hole essentially.
I'm not surprised the consensus has become far more contentious and divisive since the last update; they took what was mostly a well regarded title that most fans could overlook the issues for the sake of their personal enjoyment, and laid all of their problems bare for all to see.
So if you liked Frontiers, you'll either walk away burned by The Final Horizon because it ruined what you thought was a decent game, you're still willing to give Sonic Team the benefit of the doubt and hope they improve on the next game, or you already didn't like Frontiers and TFH just served to vindicate and validate those feelings.
I'm the secret fourth option. I loved Frontiers and even if it had flaws I enjoyed Final Horizon quite a bit, I thought things like the precision platforming on the towers and in the new character challenges was really fun. I can't defend the trials and those perfect parries though, those are just horrible and I cant deny it.
That's the 3rd option; you liked it despite the problems and hope they get fixed.
If I had a Nickle for everytime, this year, a decent Sonic game alienated a lot of people because of the difficulty spike in the final stages, I'd have 2 Nickles.
Which isn't a lot, but it's still strange that it happened twice.
Sonic fans are weak.
Because of the way your post was worded, I thought you meant both the second and third option felt burned by TFH lmao I'm illiterate
The amigo character controls were nearly universally awful. Omega was probably the only one that was passable, and Rouge was also mostly playable. Nothing like a playthrough of 06 to get you to appreciate the mechanics in Sonic Heroes lol
I can't find the answer online, so the answer is probably "no", but I'll give it a try here: did they ever fix the frame pacing problem that the game has at 30 FPS (all platforms)?
You forgot the part where rouge gets glued to walls, so she’s just as awful as the rest of those mutants.
Getting stuck to walls only happens occasionally, that's better than being consistently awful like Amy.
This is like debating on whether getting syphilis or gonorrhea is better, like yeah sure I'd rather have one than the other but at the end of the day its still an STD
