did not like it overall at all
I think the difficulty is unreasonable, and while I think that'd be fine for optional challenges, the problem is this is the new ending, the new canon story. it's a replacement for the ending of the main game. imagine playing the game as normal until rhea and then switching to this dlc, and think of all the ways it suddenly breaks in difficulty and content.
amy's fun enough, though I hate that so many of her moves are clearly her past hammer moves with the hammer replaced with cards
knuckles is a disaster. just, no.
tails is not much better than knuckles, except for the overpowered cyclone boost mode which is a lot of fun but trivialises things
they rushed it in one year and in that angle it's impressive they did so much at all, but it's just not fun
    shame
also story wise I think I prefer the original ending

  2. I just woke up and turned it on. I’ve loaded in as Amy and wanted to see people’s thoughts…

This sounds amazing tbh. Like 06’s and Unleashed’s DLC levels of “for the hardcore fans.” Frontiers was so far removed from what I wanted from Sonic but I came around to it really quickly. So I’m pretty much on the same page as @jubbalub but I’ll see how it actually plays.

Though I will say, 2 seconds in and Eggman makes a joke about “the super power of teamwork…” I’ve come to the realization that, to me, sometimes Flynn’s writing comes across like you’re watching DBZ Abridged vs actual DBZ. Like it’s quite clearly written by a fan. In some Seinfeld episode commentaries, they talk about the difference in tone that came in the later seasons due to the new writers having loved the show prior to joining the staff. It’s similar to this.

Okay, so there's two mods this game desperately needs, I think:

    1) A mod to fix the PC mouse camera controls. I want to see how the harder platforming sections handle when you have quick and precise control over the camera.

    2) A mod that lets you toggle off the "locked camera" sections. I feel like the game is unnecessarily restrictive with taking away the camera controls in some sections, it would be nice to be able to override it.

God damn this update is nasty. 4-B is kicking my ass. Makes the Unleashed DLC look like fuckin Sonic Chaos. 10/10, I can't believe this update was free

As someone who surprisingly really dug the main game, after going back to Sonic this DLC plummeted off a cliff quality wise to me to the point where I'm just going to youtube the new ending instead lmao. Really, really puzzled what the hell happened here because while the main game's a bit too easy, this just felt like a Kaizo hack I feel like the main audience for this is never ever going to beat. The new characters were fun to mess around with for a bit at least???

  6. The true Sonic experience is back y'all.

  7. I just played Cyberspace 4-1 and I’m shocked at this. Super wild level design. I’ll need more time to digest it and experience the other stages, but my automatic response was positive. If only the controls were the same as Open Zone…

I'm surprised at the negativity, to be honest. I'm having a pretty good time.

Most of the remixed cyber levels are more interesting and deeper than the originals, and with more stuff to find, it mostly works. The flickies can be hard to spot, and with how much longer all the stages are I'm not stoked on that, or their lack of checkpoints. Same goes for the new towers, I'm not sure what was wrong with adding an extra upreel after a set distance like on Rhea. It's still pretty fun overall though.

...The exception to which being 4-B kicking my ass six ways from sunday. Those fuckin' collapsing platforms, man. And way to make a version of Escape the Loop that I hate!

They really pulled a Super Mario Bros. For Super Players here, huh? I was shocked at the overpowered guardians, I don't know what they were expecting of players. Hope this stuff gets nerfed, or easy mode is made to do more stuff, because it feels a little suffocating.

Tails, Knuckles and Amy are all good (other than the borked deceleration). This is exactly what we should expect from alternate playable characters. Mostly like Sonic, but with a couple twists! Only wish so much of their movesets weren't locked off to begin with. Oh, and the startup on gliding, flying and cycloning is a bit too long, feels a little jerky. The inconsistency of Tails not having a homing attack like everyone else is weird? But also you can just fly into shit, so I dunno.

The real disappointment for me is that they've done absolutely nothing with the core movement controls. Obviously it was kind of a pipe dream to expect full pinball physics or something, I wasn't getting my hopes up for anything like that, but what was stopping them from giving you actual turning in the air, or for that matter, in cyberspace? Why after nearly a full year are we still confined to physics quirks that modders ironed out within weeks of release? It's not a big deal for me, obviously, I'm just going to turn the mods back on when they're updated, but everyone should have that level of finesse.

    Art...always art...
These trial towers may be the most hateful thing I’ve ever experienced in a Sonic game.

Edit: Actually, scratch that, I just got to snake trial.

  10. So I'm gonna sound really weird here... this level design is some of the most fucked shit ever in a Sonic game.... and I kind of like it???

I would never call this good and its gonna filter the hell out of casual players looking for a good time but like...yea, this type of shit I needed from a Sonic game.

    Pro tip:

+ - instead of using Cyloop, wait for them to attack and throw their thing, run to them and attack , parry, attack, parry, and so on

The Cyberspace levels are so good???

The Rocket Boost Green Hill level is long and makes good use of its mechanic.

There's a Chemical Plant level that is just a huge open space and you need to find the right and hidden path.

So my friend didn’t do the action chain challenges but when he reached sonic in this update, they gave him spin dash straight away, very nice

Not sure if it’s exclusive to this content or carry to the rest of the game though

    Oh my god

Cyberspace 4-A is a reference to Desert Ruins Act 2 in Sonic Lost World

How didn't I notice with all the literal honeycombs

The potential is there. They could’ve hit a home run if they fixed the flying mechanics of Amy and Knuckles. I have not gotten to Tails yet.

It's far from Adventure 3 but it's good. Like the rest of Frontiers, polish and the benefit of a sequel that starts out with all the additions and developments of the update would be pretty sweet, to say the least

Overwhelmingly the impression I'm getting is that this is everything a Sonic game should be, except they for some reason decided the theme of "cold brutality" needed to be here and turned the asshole meter to 115%. All the pieces are here to make something perfect, but for some reason it's just really really fucking hard.

I feel like all they had to do was keep that all exclusive to one difficulty mode and the only people who would dislike it are the people that already disliked Frontiers.

How do you access the DLC content? If I started a new game does it intergrate with the story? Does this replace the previous ending or is it an alternative ending?

You won't access it until you get to Ouranos Island, after which it's basically a what-if scenario.

While the story is more involved and climactic, the actual story pretty much doesn't change, so whatever is canon is probably what you prefer.
