Agree that the locking the Spindash behind S ranks thing is kind of absurd. Haven't gotten to try the update yet but hopefully will tomorrow!! If the S ranks are too much of a time sink I may just switch to easy mode because I wanna try the Spindash as soon as possible... love seeing all the positive things people have to say about the physics changes!! Even if it's not perfect, I am really glad that Kishimoto has been so insanely receptive to the criticism / feedback he's been given from fans, definitely looking forward to playing this.

I'm so mad that they locked Green Hill Zone behind getting all emblems. This is a series staple, and they put it behind this impossible challenge?

    Wait a minute...

+ - I'm just having fun don't take it too seriously

It's actually hilarious how OP it is. It puts the Sonic Generations Spindash for Classic to shame, and it effectively replaces the Drop Dash entirely unless you want something slower. Plus it actually works in 2D sections unlike the Drop Dash. No wonder it gets a mark on your time alongside Jump Deceleration tweaks, this thing can break Cyber Space level times in half.
It also implements a really jank roll with LT that you can use on slopes and stuff.. and Sonic 4 up slopes and upside down on surfaces with in certain cases, but hey.

Oh ALSO, the patch notes mention they added a "BGM change" toggle for Cyberspace. Does this turn off the audio filter that's applied when boosting??

    If so, that's big news!

Edit: Finally!!! That's one more mod I can disable :doge:

    Jack shit.
The last time I played was before update 1 was out. Is the birthday stuff temporary or something? I don't remember people talking about Easter Kocos before for instance (are they still there currently?).

With Sonic Superstars and now this update that directly addresses feedback and fans concernes, i gotta be honest with you guys, i am not comfortable with this new Sonic Team that actually listens to fans feedback like that , i am not ready to live in this reality :ohdear:

This birthday stuff really feels like a temporary event thing yes, so i was wondering the same

but the easter kokos are still in the game yes

Well, you can toggle it on and off in the menu, so there's no harm in leaving it in the game.

Yeah. Aside from my issue with the spin dash, I did go from long-time lurker to poster today because there's so much good stuff happening!

So um. It's actually more like the Lost World spin dash. As long as you hold the button you'll accelerate in ball form.

It's still fun to use but there you go

Kind of multi-purpose, honestly. Spin Dash while idle and it's the best slope/hill launcher yet. But I thought you'd need to boost to be able to use it while running, yet you can just straight up roll whenever and it will give you super fast, cracked out speeds whenever you tuck into it while moving fast enough. It's effectively a Super Boost above even the Power Boost in that regard, and with no boost gauge used even. Plus replacing the Drop Dash altogether in functionality.

I can see where people will compare it to the Lost World Spin Dash, but in this case it's much easier and much more powerful. The equivalent of being able to replace a good portion of Sonic's kit once you've aced the game.

  11. The trick to getting s-ranks is defeating groups of enemies as quickly as possible while maintaining maximum multiplier, I’ve gotten a few by just Tony Hawking around the map without engaging in combat but it doesn’t seem clear what racks up the most score doing that. A tower and one group of soldiers has usually been enough for s-ranks on Ouranos and that’s with hard mode on, having jump deceleration at 0 let’s you easily jump off cliffs towards the heads of towers for a quick kill.

It should also be noted that the yellow orbs don't actually give you any points, they just extend your chain. You have to do things other than just collecting orbs which I found out the hard way

I barely noticed the Easter Egg Kocos. So maybe the birthday stuff stays. I hope so unless it goes off at midnight. It’s cute.

While everyone is talking about the spindash I just went around taking pictures of decorations and Sonic in his party outfit. : )

(can you unlock the spindash alternatively by beating The End again to get completely powered up? I’m guessing not)

Can you apply the brake tweaks in cyberspace levels? Are those different from jump decceleration?

The new action chain challenges are really great in the sense that it’s free-form challenges that makes you go anywhere as long as you do different actions, so it actually makes you think about the best ways to do it and bow to navigate the open zones

the rings chain, especially rainbow rings, really racks up points

I've done the Kronos and Ares challeneges but wow I can't believe how easily they added 6 more hours to my playtime lol. I didn't think they could outdo the last update and while i'm still considering whether or not they did I think it's pretty neat i even have to.

  17. Yes they apply too and I’d say a setting of 10 feels pretty natural. Contrary to what I was thinking earlier this just affects deceleration when letting go of the stick rather the deceleration rate when letting off the boost.

Powerboost+Jump Deceleration 0 in cyberspace is just as powerful as the homing dash it’s really fun to use, it might be better than it in some cases like in 1-7 you can jump right to the goal which the dash falls short of doing so it’s quite a bit faster here, I got a 18.23 using it.

  18. I’m not on the final page while typing, so maybe someone mentioned it already, but there is an option for this. It’s near the bottom.

It doesn’t function perfectly though. You don’t always land at max boosting speed even though you’re clearly boosting, so you have to press again in those situation.

It sounds like they've really retooled how this game plays for the best. When I'm not busy as absolute hell I will give it a shot!

This bodes well both for the subsequent update, as well as the next game in the series.

Overall, from my short time with it, I think this update has exceeded my expectations. There's a LOT more here than was advertised, and most of it helps to flesh out the entire game.

The new Action Chain challenges are a particularly good addition. They encourage you to familiarize yourself with the layout of the island and optimize your route to get a high score, and it's fun to just zip around everywhere racking up as many points as you can. The rankings are also surprisingly tight - if you want an S rank you gotta work for it and be smart.

The big Koco challenges are also cool. They contain the most interesting and involved platforming in the game, and it made me appreciate the new physics options the update added. There are a few stinkers, like the floating turd puzzle in Kronos, but the rest are great fun.

They also added all of the Island soundtracks to the jukebox, added more quality-of-life changes, and fixed two of my biggest issues with this game's control. This update really serves to round out the whole experience, and I'm very excited to see what they have in store for the final update. (Spoiler: it looks really freaking cool)
