It'll probably also be released on the 23rd. Turns out that's the same day they released the last one on, so 3 months apart + parts of the content being focused around "Sonic's Birthday", at least that logic works in my head.

Two updates of stuff that should really have been in the game when it launched, versus a reveal of a brand new title and a game that's launching physically - it's not hard to see why this is being backgrounded. They'll focus far more on the final one.

was just reminded of the usage of Don't Stop Me Now for promotional trailers in a way that makes it a little clear that probably wasn't a good choice. My bias aside, a (more) casual fan found out they did and they were put off by that alone, because it's not really "Sonic". Really crazy misstep, especially when they had Vandalize in the game anyways.

I expect emails in a few hours announcing the release as June 23rd.

  6. If we don’t get the emails today there’s a decent chance they’ll reveal it on tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct instead, the timing would be too good for Sega to pass up if they plan on releasing it Friday.

  7. It was a no show but they’ve a announced a Sonic Central for Friday, if they reveal it there then it will probably launch next week unless they decide to push the patch in the middle of a Friday which doesn’t tend to happen I believe.

Why not? lot of games tend to release on Fridays, or even updates, it's the usual time that Guilty Gear Strive DLCs and updates tend to release for example

  9. Patches tend to be in the 12-5am PST timeframe for most games as that’s generally when most digital stores release new games and content but looking back Update 1 did release around 5PM PST though it was announced two days in advance, if they announce and release it Friday it will essentially be a shadowdrop on the same day as Origins Plus releasing so they might not be keen on doing this.

I honestly thought they were going to drop it today or on Thursday so it wouldn't come out on the same day as the release of Origins Plus.

Yeah, is the idea that they'll drop the second update right after Central? That would be the coolest thing ever but I'm starting to get the feeling maybe they'll say "just a little longer" and show a preview of the patch or something. Kind of nice that they're being so quiet on the second update though, if there's big changes in there then it'll be a really nice surpise.

The "Birthday Bash Update" was shown first thing in the Sonic Central, with a release day of "later today". So we have that to look forward to.

Well, having a spin/roll and a new game plus is nice, but we really know just as little besides those things as before. We don't know what the challenges are! We don't know what the new Koco do!

The challenge seems like a score attack mode. Do a bunch of actions, combat, collect rings, and get the best score.

Also, they removed the cinematic camera angles from the special attacks, namely the Spin Slash and the counter attack. So we may see more QoL changes.

spindashing and rolling looks cool but I'm really curious to see how they've done it because the boost stamina wheel showing up makes me think it's probably some kind of re-skinned boost

  17. Looking forward to trying this out. I don’t have much faith in the spindash being great or useful, but hopefully it’s at least fun.

As for removing cinematic angles from attacks… that’s a huge bonus in my book. It’d make the combat feel much more snappy and interactive.

I'm more interested in the playable characters coming in the Wave 3 dlc. However, I'm pleased New Game Plus is being added. I've always felt Sonic games like Unleashed could really have benefited from a NG+ mode (being able to start a new playthrough with your speed/werehog stats already levelled would be more fun).

Even if it's identical to the boost, presumably hurting enemies would make a big difference, especially in Cyber Space.

It also looks like it does react to the game's physics. One thing I immediately noticed is that in Cyber Space, Sonic conserved the momentum of his jump in a way you couldn't when boosting and jumping normally. Also, when he landed, he slowed down like the game's typical roll.

I'd guess that while the Spin Dash is linked to boosting, you can still use slopes to gain (or lose) speed, and maybe you can use boost energy to keep going fast?

This is actually probably a toggle. Someone suggested it to Kishimoto on Twitter and he replied with "maybe". Nice addition.
