I guess I better stop shitposting and get some thoughts out. -Yes, the trailer was sparse and didn't really show much. I think the environments are pretty, and I like the nonlinear world design. That's not really a big deal to me, because the lack of substance at least did not condemn the game in any way. -Morio Kishimoto has an inconsistent history. I love Colors and like Lost World, and Forces is, if nothing else, perfectly playable. I think it's not a great idea to judge based on his presence here, since this is a kind of game that just physically is not and can not be built in the way the games people complain about were. You cannot move through this world with Forces' controls. There is no blocky 2D platforming in a game that, as far as we know, has no 2D sections. -That does not and should not for anyone confirm the game as amazing, but I think it's worth noting that an all or mostly 3D Sonic game with a different art style to Lost World and big open level design without blocky platforming and Ian Flynn writing is checking a lot of "Sonic fan demand" boxes and it's downright naive to dismiss it as more of the same we've been getting. -What this trailer does do is confirm the first leak is at least somewhat true, and what that leak described was just inherently different from anything we've seen in the last several years. So I'm interested. I want to see what some of those "cyberspace" levels are. -I am so happy to hear Ian Flynn is writing the game. I know he probably won't have 100% "do whatever you want" story control, but he can make Sonic's cast so endearing and won't give us any of the "cringe" moments from...well, the entire rest of the franchise up until this game. -The anger over Sonic's model and pose is so hilariously dumb I hope they keep using them for every game just to piss you weirdos off On the contrary. On SSMB (and to a lesser extent, here), I see mostly positive or neutral reactions, but there's four or five people that just post really fast and get quoted by others, which makes it look like a general atmosphere of cynicism is more present than it is.
Now that we have more information, can we look at anymore of the leaks and confirm if something seems to be true or not? I lost track of how many “leaks” there have been for this thing.
Well I'm happy for you and glad you're excited. But there's honestly nothing to really judge the game on yet. I'm glad Flynn is writing and the game looks nice, but I don't think its unreasonable to want some gameplay.
Open world game, glitchy/cyberspace elements, the "ghost girl" appears to be the mysterious disembodied voice in the trailer, and the pre-release name Sonic Rangers. I think a good amount of the leaks are real
Blindly loving Sonic is how us prior generations all got burned many times which would cause anyone to lean towards cynicism. Your time will come unless Sega is actually making long-lasting changes for the better. There were a lot of eyes on them here and there's nothing that really jumps out as innovative or inspiring in the trailer. We need to see motivations, show us why we might want to explore this barren Unity landscape. Control is great and all, but how many of us are endlessly replaying the various 3D Sonic fan-engines without levels that feel amazing? None of us? Huh...
If there's an option to auto-follow roads, I hope it can be turned off. Or else I will hate you forever, Sega.
https://twitter.com/denfaminicogame/status/1469133003322724355 Someone on SSMB posted this tweet which claims that "Ghost Girl"'s voice is actually Amy. I did think the voice in the JP trailer sounded kind of like Kawata, but I wrote it off as a coincidence. Can anyone verify the integrity of this source, or at least know the JP cast well enough to say whether it sounds like her?
Ya I guess. Mobius is ingrained in my mind because of the other media and movie but I know what you mean.
Lol, is this also going to rip of Spirit Tracks? Still, Flynn's involvement has me hyped alone. Gameplay is my most important thing in games, but it will be refreshing to have a compelling narrative and endearing characters for the first time in ages.
Interesting, seems they did. For posterity: https://twitter.com/Tracker_TD/status/1469132870463729668
It definitely was there earlier. Here's a copy-paste of the now-missing snippet I sent to a friend earlier: EDIT: double-ninja'd, lol.
So maybe "Ghost Girl" might be related to this SAGE incident, maybe being kind of Starfall Islands "Light Gaia", if you know what I mean.
