If I'm understanding it, you can cancel a boost into a homing attack. I've done it a few times and it is indeed very cool.

I didn't act like it was. Don't project onto me. I was just saying that you brought up liking pinball and I said it had nothing to do with it cuz it's a weird point. Then I said the reasons why I thought it was jank so you could understand my point. I don't know why you always have to try and undermine my points by acting like I'm upset and I'm taking it as a personal attack. That's a weird thing for a mod to do!

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Yea, you did. But I'm not gonna argue with you; your lack of self-awareness is really not my problem. I really don't see how me saying I liked a thing you didn't like is a weird point but you do you I guess.

Couple things though: You didn't say it was jank, you said it was "hard" and you "had" to cheese it. But I didn't have to do that at all. Maybe what you perceive as "jank" is just...not being good at it? I brought up liking pinball because I really like pinball, and I'm prone to enjoying any minigame about it unless it's fundamentally broken (i.e. the ball moves unpredictably almost any time it hits something).

I take that back, you did say "the ball falling to the far left" was "jank shit" but...this happens on real, physical pinball tables that you can touch. It's just a facet of the game which, as previously stated, I really fucking like! Hence why I said I'm biased. And also why I brought up the point about the Puyo minigame in Mania.

Bunny I don't care enough about your opinion to project onto you. You're the one coming off hostile. So can you chill out?

  5. I think I posted this up above but here’s a clip of me doing it in a run for the 1-7 Cyberspace stage (City Escape one). I do it three times and it’s pretty obvious where it occurs.

Just trigger the boost during the homing attack animation and it increases your speed and the distance covered by the air boost. Not only is it good for quickly dashing by obstacles, but you can also use the control stick when hitting the boost to direct yourself midair. It doesn’t take too long to come to grips with and you can take massive shortcuts with it.

The fact you like pinball is great. Unfortunately I don't like pinball and played it for ages. The score is far too high for mandatory progression. At least for those of us bad at pinball like me! You are aware of your biases but I think it's still a clear development error which is worthy of comment.

I said it has jank feeling physics in my post where I said I beat the game as well. It's in my spoiler. I just didn't feel like repeating myself. Like, it's not hard if you get the score multiplier, but then you have to wait for red rings to cheese it.

Yeah, and I don't like that and concede that's just a me thing because there's probably a way to avoid it on real tables that I am not aware of, but in Frontiers it just feels like the game will just throw the ball there when it feels like it.

I said in my spoiler post that I found out about the cheese method after. The way I beat it was getting lucky and getting red rings and getting the 256 multiplier, but that doesn't mean I won't tell other people!

I'm vibin, bro. I don't know why you're taking anything I say as hostile. But that feels like a you thing rather than me.

Very cool thing for a mod to say.

Yea me saying I like it isn't "you should shut up about it because I like it".

This is precisely why I mentioned the Puyo Pop thing. I hate puyo pop, I suck at it. I said it till I got bored when Mania came out. You do you :V.

Uh, thanks? You do come off hostile, very frequently. Normally when people are told they're coming off hostile and they don't intend to, they take a moment to reflect on their tone if it's not their intention to come off that way. But uh, feel free to not do that if you want :V

The Puyo Puyo is easy in Mania. It would be like a mandatory hard as nails Puyo Puyo

But it was hard as nails to me. The pinball was easy though.

    Perspective :V

But I never said you had to shut up about it. I like pinball! It's not my favorite thing in the world, but when I go to an arcade I have fun with some of the tables! When I said it wasn't about liking pinball I wasn't trying to shut you up or put you down and if it came across that way, that's my fault. I just said meant that people saying they didn't like Frontiers' pinball stage was because it doesn't feel fun to play and the physics are jank. My problem is you acting like I took it as a personal attack and telling me to chill out because... I didn't and was fine. It just feels weird to do! Maybe the response was because you felt like I was attacking you when I wasn't. But it just felt weird that you made it seem like I was angry when I wasn't.

Really? I mean come on, surely you can see the difference between the incredibly high score on the pinball table where you are required to get really high multipliers without losing the ball for 5-10 minutes and the AI in Manias Puyo Puyo that usually kills itself?

No? I had zero problem the first time I reached the pinball. I shot the ball around, aimed for the red rings when they showed up, and had way too many points by the time I finally shot the ball at the target.

The first time I reached the puyo boss, it killed me three times in a row and I got extremely annoyed because I really don't like puyo pop. It wasn't until I got the hang of it that I could reliably keep myself alive long enough for him to kill himself.

I'm not invalidating your feelings here, I'm empathizing. You got blindsided by a challenge you weren't prepared for and you didn't enjoy it. That happens. I'm sorry you didn't have as much fun with it as I did!

Fair enough! I just have always seen the Mania Puyo Puyo boss kill itself. I barely do anything. Lol.

By the way I don't think the Pinball table is a bad idea. I think it's fun, I just don't think it should require such a high score for mandatory progression. Allow optional play at higher score targets.

That's cool. I think they really kinda just intended for you to collect the red star rings anyway. By the time you have a 256x multiplier, you should have at least 20K points unless you're really unlucky.

But it'd probably be more accessible if there were targets to hit rather than a score to reach. Targets/buttons/doodads are universal.

Sure, but you weren't saying "you're coming off as hostile" you were like "GOD, stop taking it so personally! Chill out!!!" which came across as snarky to me and not someone saying that in good faith. Look, I'm aware I come off as hostile here, maybe that's because I type wrong and even when I lurked before I came here, the vibe here with Sonic 4 and Generations was a little, uh, angry. So I always got the impression that's how I had to be. I'm trying to change, but it's easy for me to go back into old habits. I don't expect you to believe me, however, I hope you can watch me make the progress and see that I mean it.

Sonic 4 and Sonic Generations were a long time ago. Gotta let the past die, bro.

    Back to Sonic Frontiers now!

That's why I said trying to change! I'm aware! But, ok.

  19. I like pinball and I generally liked how it was in Frontiers. That said, I think the physics were a bit too off to stand on its own and the score was a touch high for people who don’t play pinball. It wasn’t SA1 level janky, but putting it up against a pretty 1 to 1 recreation like Pinball Arcade, you can feel the difference immediately. After my initial glee at seeing Sonic Team putting in something so random but to my tastes, my reaction to it was, “This is going to piss people off.”

Does anyone know if difficulty settings affect the score threshold? I was on Hard and it was 5 million points I believe.

Frontiers is sitting at "Overwhelmingly Positive" with 5000+ reviews on Steam.

Game ain't perfect, especially the PC version, but it seems like they did something that resonated with folks -- especially the casual crowd.
