Yeah, Generations modding has been amping up and so has Adventure modding to a lesser degree. Lost World was all but abandoned besides the recent DLC porting, and Forces has a small but dedicated handful on it.

I do hope Frontiers is at least approachable even if the hardcoding problems since Lost World are around. There's so many moves from the Drop Dash to the Bounce, a lot of older Sonic level gimmicks and enemies thanks to Cyberspace, and a lot to work with for level stuff. A proverbial sandbox of modding if folks can get past the initial control/physics factors (or, you know, improve them and import them over to Cyberspace so that's less butts too).

From what I played... here are a few dream mods I'd love to see if they're not already in the game somehow.

1: Photo/movie mode. Similar to SA1's Meme Maker mod.
2: Tails mod. (I wanna fly over those mountains).
3: Unlimited Big Tokens. (Bigs fishing game is just... nice... it's relaxing, it's calming... I just like it).

Yeah that's about it so far.

There has to be a photo mode in the game. There just has to be. Most open-world games in this style have one. I'll be very surprised if this game ends up not having one.

    Jack shit.
When I first truly mastered rail switching in SA2 Sky Rail became AMAZING. Then when the HD ports came I didn't want to learn again.

I haven’t played the game yet but I’ve heard that the bounce is stiffer than SA2. If this is true then An accurate SA2 style bounce would be a dream mod. A mod to trigger the dropdash without having to double jump would also be killer…. Oh and a mod that gives us the Generations drift in cyberspace

Branching off from these, @existingdebeing on Twitter stated that their gameplay clip came from this larger YouTube video of footage:

Apologies if that full video was already shared in this thread, but I don't believe it has been.

I swear, people are treating this like politics. All this tribalism, both sides of the fanbase, the cynics vs. the "true fans", accusing the other of ruining the world/fanbase, or even worse (even in this thread) accusing them of being shitty people for their opinions on a video game franchise intended for children. I see so much of it now in this fanbase, where peoples' entire personalities are wrapped so tightly around this franchise, that they can't see the forest for the trees.

It's only been getting worse and worse since prior to the release of Forces, and it's not going to stop.

Wonder if anyone mentioned performance. Not the pop-in, the frame rate.

The only thing I heard is that it's 60FPS on all systems but the Switch. But it seems like the game does run in a consistent 60 / 30.

I'm really curious how load times will be on the Switch.

That’s a pretty interesting interview. Some highlights:
    - According to Famitsu Iizuka called Ian one of the top 5 biggest Sonic fans in the world
    - Writing for the open world format was really difficult because you have to take into account what the player might do. An example he gives is if, when Sonic meets the captured Amy, he says “I’ll be back soon!” and then the player wanders around the island for 20 minutes it doesn’t work, so when writing the dialogue he tried to avoid that.
    - He pitched about 12 story ideas at a time and Kishimoto would pick which one he liked and he’d write it from there. He has thought about how to develop the characters for a long time, and it sounds like he’s getting a chance to do that this time around. He mentions the team has been “very patient with him”
    - There are no direct plot connections to previous games, but it seems like previous events might be mentioned by the characters.
    - When asked what Sonic games influenced him, he mentioned that when Iizuka and Kishimoto told him at the start that they wanted a more serious plot, he wanted to take things back to the Sonic Adventure games where characters had beginnings, middles, and endings to their journeys and the plot builds to a climax, and nobody felt like “this character’s story is over so now they’re done with.”
    - When asked who his favorite characters are, he answered Sonic, Eggman, and Bean, who he hopes appears more in the future. At least I’m assuming he said Bean the Dynamite because whoever transcribed the interview only put “a character called Dynamite.”

I’m surprised you’ve not mentioned one that removes rail boosts and makes dash rings two way. That’s my main want after watching your impressions video.

Unfortunately I suspect that, if this game has a photo mode, they would’ve told us by now. They’ve missed a trick by not implementing it, but the dev time probably went to more important things and there’s still a possibility of it being added in an update if they want to go down that route.

I also expect that we will be able to fish as much as we want either once we’ve beaten the game or we’ve bought everything from Big’s shop.

Speaking of Big, does anyone else think he sounds like a baritone Kermit the frog this time around?

Hm, that's a funny example since Sonic does tell Knuckles "be back in a flash", which is even sooner than soon. Maybe someone from Sonic Team wrote that line in and not Ian, since it's not an actual cutscene but an in-game prompt.

Sonic ghosting Knuckles is in-character imo

Honestly I feel he was thinking too much into that, I doubt any player would lose immersion if Sonic said "I'll be back real soon!" and they explore other parts of the island for an hour. I can think of many times I've done that in a game.

I think it'd have been fine.

  16. Yeah, it’s not a big deal but I do like that he’s taking that stuff into account. I haven’t read any of his work but that kind of care bodes well for the game IMO.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of this in my initial post but, if this is possible, I bet people will reapply the level textures to the reused stages in cyberspace. This could be especially cool on the levels that aren’t from the boost games. Heck, the lower texture adventure 2 assets for Sky Rail and Green Forest might even look fitting if some cyberspacey type effects are applied

You've heard of a day-one patch. Now get ready for day-negative-thirteen patch.

Doesn't appear to have anything interesting in it, but I found it funny nonetheless.
