Some of the music showcased in the mix was done by a "new generation of Sega's creators", according to Ohtani

 

That explains why it sounds so different.

 

I'm assuming the team is still working under Ohtani's direction, and he has a big hand in the tracks sounding the way they do stylistically. This is kinda heartwarming though. Time to start passing the torch to the Senoue's, Ohtani's, and Kumatani's of new. And everyone else... there's too many names.

 

This is fine but I was talking more about "action stage" music, those have been okay at best from recent 3D Sonic games.

 

That's likely just for the mix here. It's an easy way to segue into another track.

 

I like it. It feels like a mix of Forces Avatar music, Modern Sonic music without using the same damn lead instrument for every song, and a bit of Sonic Rush too? The tracks have that sort of chopped-up chaotic feeling of those OST's with actual composition instead of samples.

You know what the best part is? They all sound DIFFERENT. A lot of Forces Modern Sonic tracks sounded good in a vacuum, but sort of blended together overall. But these sound quite distinct from each other.

I am quite happy with this. On top of the slower-pace more "epic" Kronos Island track and the nice piano track that most people have heard, I think this OST is gonna be a good one. Not that I'm surprised, even Forces had a great soundtrack, but if the rest of the OST is gonna sound like this consider me a happy camper.

That's basically how I feel! These tracks seem to have more personality and I like that they put so much effort into having different tracks spread out across the Cyberspace stages. For some of these I genuinely wonder what stage they go with, possibly something we haven't seen before.

 

I like it for generic background music, but usually the best video game music, and especially Sonic and Mario music, is melodic. These don't really have melodies or noticeable chord changes. It's kind of disappointing.

 

This reminds me, didn't the leaks we got an eternity ago mentioned the music "going hard" in the cyberspace stages?

We had to wait a looooong time, but we can finally confirm that it does, indeed, go hard

 

So the piece playing at around 4:14 in the video sounds like it has vocals from Merry Kirk-Holmes who sings I'm Here. It's kinda hard to tell for sure, but I'm willing to bet he had a bigger role than we initially thought. That piece also reminds me of Rouge's track for End of the World from Sonic 06 which Ohtani also composed.

I wasn't liking the DJ Mix until the second half kicked in and HOLY FUCK.

 

Oh wow, I wonder why the StH channel didn't get that version? They went for that weird 3D image effect instead. Maybe this video just wasn't ready yet or kept behind some sort of licensing?

Also that at 4:12 would make for a nice visualiser.

Curious as to how many of them have worked on other Sega titles; Like A Dragon 7 (the first one to actually use "Like A Dragon" in the States that is) has several tunes on it that are very electronically-included, such as this one, but the copy of the files I have just credits the "Sega Sound Team"...
