We're supposed to have a game coming from SEGA Hardlight, based on a job listing. The way it's described makes it sound like they're wanting a story-driven platformer game that will be passable on consoles but still run on mobile. At the very least, I'd hope they'd put it everywhere.

With the next gen consoles being capable of higher refresh rates I kind of hope we see a 120fps patch for Series X/PS5 down the line. I can deal with 30 and 60 still but 120fps gaming is next level and I feel it'd feel really good with a Sonic game that controls as well as this one (supposedly) does.

    Music snippet

Sounds like it comes from Kronos Island, but the description says nothing so who knows.

On the matter of soundtrack again, Tomoya Ohtani confirmed Jun Senoue wasn't envolved in the soundtrack as composer, just as assistance on the music production.

He also said there have six more composers and two arrangers.

The second half of the track with the synth bassline is just divine.

I like this a lot, especially when the drum & bass style breakbeats kick in. I've always felt like that would be a cool sound for Sonic.

It sounds like a blend of Forces’ avatar themes and Sonic CD’s soundtrack. I really dig it.

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
Holy shit this was WORTH the wait, and here I thought we weren't gonna get anything until the game released.

Absolutely in love with this. This looks to be taking Forces' style and expending on it, and as someone that loved Forces' ost I couldn't be happier about it.

I see the Forces comparisons already, I need to stress just how much better this is simply for not using that same fucking synth over and over.

To be honest, it sounds more like a toss-up between rave music, and something kinda new-age. I'm here for it.

    Water-themed island!!!! :D

I hope they do some cool things with water-running and stuff like that. I kinda figured something like this would be in the game, now that we know Sonic can go underwater again. But that also means it could be extremely clunky and frustrating, so... here's hoping it's not.

Edit: Wow, I really love the direction they're going with the Cyberspace tracks. Some of them sound a little plain to me (I can only hear that double/quadruple time pitch-rising snare buildup so many times before it gets a bit stale), but others - especially those last 2 - are insane. It's all very nostalgic, yet futuristic at the same time. Perfectly captures the idea that Cyberspace is made up of Sonic's memories. Tbh I VASTLY prefer this to Forces' music, it captures a lot of the spirit of 90's and 2000's Sonic music.

I'm also a fan of how sparse the vocals are. I was concerned we might be getting full-on vocal themes, but the vocals seem to create a nice texture and the lyrics are mostly either incoherent or cringe-averse.

^ Given this game has a double jump I’m hoping you can “swim” by jumping repeatedly like Colors
Ya this music isn’t what I’d expect from Sonic but I’m also here for it. It’s different but it fits.

OK, but can we talk about the bass in 5:09 tho'? Really lovin' the groovy in this one. In general, the Cyberspace soundtrack sounds really good.

I hope SEGA will upload as well one of the Guardians' themes.

  16. The Kronos Island music is amazing. If the rest of the soundtrack can keep up that level of quality, Frontiers might have the best OST in well over a decade, maybe even the best overall.

The Cyberspace mix though...I hope it doesnt sound as ear grating in game as that video did. I like the bits from the first 2 minutes or so, but after that is a hard pass.

Really not a fan of these types of compositions that Tomoya Ohtani has been doing recently, even if it fits (or doesn't fit) the cyber space theme. This is probably nostalgia but I liked the style he had in Adventure 2, 06, and Unleashed a lot more.

Yeah, right, that's not what I'm talking about, but that you don't need 4 pages to say almost nothing. 2 pages with "Sonic arrives and joins the fight" on the first and "they notice an oddity and find the truth upon winning" in the second would have done the same job.

TechnOhtani isn't a lost case after all.

Some of this reminded me of Sonic Heroes; not exactly the same sound, but its Special Stage and Bingo Highway came to my mind, as well as some cyber level which I don't remember if it was from Heroes or Shadow's game. The sound of this, however, further confirms the excessive similarities between this game and PSO2:NGS; the virtual areas of that game have a very similar track, and that's not the only similar one, considering previous videos.

I'm with the Twitter comment section on this one. This sounds great! It doesn't sound like video game music, but still very great. A bit surprised, though, that they're dropping the curtain just like that.

Interesting that you mention Sonic Unleashed, as some people's comments on this YouTube video upload of the SoundCloud Data Discs Kronos Island sample track have pointed out how it's reminded them of Jungle Joyride: Night from Sonic Unleashed. I can definitely hear where they're coming from with certain tonal and instrumentation similarities.
