Sonic Free Riders

In other news, Joystiq hates it, while IGN gave it a 7.5.

 

Although not in the game as a playable character, this guy is the VA for Big the Cat.

Arrrg, Shadow sounds AWFUL lol for a split second I thought he was the count from seasemy street, minus the accent XD

 

Kamina's and Ryu's VA for Big the Cat? This doesn't make any sense! This guy probably costs as much as Roger and he's dubbing a filler character!

I have no problems with any of the voices, though Amy sounds a bit too high and Shadow sounds... foreign.

 

The Kyle Hubert thing is true as he confirmed it on his facebook page... Or at least told us to check out Sonic Free riders since he was voicing Big in it.

I didn't doubt it was true. It's just difficult to imagine though, it's Kamina! Even though the english VA isn't as... flamboyant as the japanese one, he still makes quite the impression sometimes, especially with the epic speech and the epic music and the epic animation. And he must cost so much too!

 

Honestly, I'll say this much... I liked all the voices, except one, single, one.

Shadow's voice. I'm sorry, Kirk Thornton... but that voice sounds too old and creepy for Shadow. This is the same exact voice I've heard him use on a middle-aged villain in some anime (I forget what anime), and I just can't imagine this voice fitting Shadow at all. The funny thing is how most people had this "not fitting the character" problem with Roger as Sonic's new voice, and most people seem to like Shadow's new voice.

 

Why is it difficult to imagine? He was offered payment, he took it. Simple as that.

Also, I think Shadow's new voice is good. His character dynamic seems more round and less reserved. His old voice sounded flat and uninteresting.

 

Shadow's voice actor is actually Kirk Thornton, who has done more dubbing than most other male VAs.

By the way, if anyone has the credits for Free Riders, could they add them to the wiki? We still don't know if 4Kids are still involved somehow in terms of recording, but I assume they're probably using somewhere else now.

 

Kotaku's Review, courtesy Brian Crecente. He says that the dodgy controls ruin what otherwise would have been an enjoyable game.

 

The bottom line is, it would be more fun with a controler XD I have both the other riders games, I quite like them, if this had an option for regular controlers, I'd totally get it :/

 

If sales for this game don't go well, they may be forced to "patch" the game with controller options just so people will BUY THE GAME.

But yeah, it has alot going for it otherwise.

 

I would buy it if they patched it for controlers, I cant even use Kinect like that, I sleep on a bunkbed and have my 37" flatscreen bolted to the wall at the foot of my bed, so I cant exactally stand up for gaming (not that standing for gaming really appeals to me anyway)

 

If these were actually Bigs lines then that'd be hilariously awesome.

 

Sadly, that's not gonna happen. When Jon St. Jon was Big, we didn't get "I've got frogs of steel!" in any games.

Well, at a convention someone asked him to say it and he did, but that's not in the games. So you could totally ask Kyle to say those lines irl, but they're not getting in any games. I know it was obvious, but I am a realistic thinker.

Anyways, I suppose I'll get used to Shadow's voice. I probably just need to see him actually talking in cutscenes rather than just hearing the audio of it.

 

I love how this topic is more about how the voices are than how awful the resulting game was. :P

Fun fact: while Jon St. John was obviously Duke Nukem in his titular game, Lani Minella was pretty much all the female voices. She is also the voice of Rouge circa SA2. This means the ending of Episode 3 is essentially Big having sex with Rouge.

Vector's voice is fucking hilarious, Dan Green is still Knuckles, Rouge doesn't sound old anymore imo she's perfect, Shadow sounds waaaaay too fucking Jin (yes I know it's the same VA) making me wanna watch Samurai Champloo, and Amy sounds like Minnie Mouse. Everyone else sounds alright to me.
