    Download: Android - iOS

Forgive me if there was another topic for this, but I could not find one when searching. Soft launched in September, Speed Battle is now available on both iOS and Android.

The gameplay of Speed Battle is a mix of the Sonic Dash games, with a sprinkle of Allstar Racing. Players compete in 4 player races, collecting rings to increase your top speed, and using items for both offence and defense. While the game is free, it is filled with ads and the ability to purchase red star rings which can be used to buy loot chests. From each chest you can get a mix of rings, red star rings, and character cards. Character cards act as experience points for each character. A set number of cards is needed to unlock a character, then additional cards work towards leveling up each character which slightly boosts their special item power or number of starting rings.

Overall I'm enjoying the game (Currently I have a rank of 524), but it certainly has its flaws. Regular rings are all but useless in the early game as they are only used for leveling up a character once they have enough cards, and the cost per leveling up is pathetically low on the earlier levels. The way the stages are unlocked is also weird, as you have to increase your player rank to unlock the next tier of levels, meaning you'll be racing the same 2-3 levels for the majority of your time with the game. The game also is heavily ad focused, giving the player 2x rewards if they watch an ad after a race, but the ads can sometimes cause my app to crash, making me lose any rewards I would have gotten. Lastly, I've had this issue (Either by design or error) where after a race the game will not give me a reward chest for my finishing position. This is especially aggravating when using the daily Star Runners 2x reward, and getting nothing for it.

How about the rest of you. Is anyone else here playing it? What are your thoughts on the game?

I've actually enjoyed playing this. A little annoying to unlock characters and sometimes the ads cause the game to freeze but its a nice time waster.

Also whoever wrote the achievement names did their research. They're all meme lines, including gems such as:

    You've got this Sonic
    Aw yeah, this is happenin
    The more the merrier
    you're too slow
    long time no see

That's some nice meme shit posting there :v:

I like the look of this more than Sonic Dash/Runners. I was hoping to hop onto this, but sadly my iOS tablet can only go up to 9.0, and my Android device is just plain shit.

Does it have any kind of single player or is it purely just vs other players?

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
    Multiplayer only.
It's also a lot more fun than dash since the levels aren't randomly generated, that mean you can actually have good level design.

The game was recently updated. Seems they adjusted how often you get ads when not opting to double your score. Also on Android they have a free offer where you get a Emerald chest for free.

I've played enough to unlock all the characters and I'm over 1000k for trophies. I'm really enjoying it, but so far none of the offers feel worth it to purchase. If they offered the ability to unlock two chests at once I would likely buy that.

You could always use Bluestacks. Though playing it with a mouse is rather annoying, and unlike Sonic Dash, it lacks keyboard support.

This game makes me wish Forces had an actual multiplayer versus component with the Avatar or even Boost Sonic.

Getting the last second win or keeping up with the entire lobby is thrilling.

Wanted to play earlier in this one, but it seems that it took them a couple of days until one of my Android devices was compatible :P

I really like the idea with competetive race, it's definitelly refreshing in comparison to other endless runner games. But it's lagging so terribly, that it makes the game a bit too random for me. And I'm guessing that it's not only me, because other players who were racing with me sometimes also made some stupid mistakes, probably due to lags. I was playing on my GPD XD, so it definitelly wasn't fault of my device nor bad wi-fi quality. And some offline races with bots would be nice, but nope, only one game mode.

Besides, music would fit perfectly... to Robocop movie, I can't say that it's bad, but it's like something from different type of universe than Sonic's. And those serious portaits of characters... C'mon, it's silly.

Nifty game, but lags are killing the pleasure of playing.

I'm really enjoying it actually. I was done with previous Dash entries relatively quick just because endless runner formulas grow old for me quickly. But the multiplayer aspect really makes every match interesting. I dropped five bucks on it to get Knuckles right out the gate and I don't regret it. I've easily gotten 5 bucks worth of enjoyment out of it so far.

I've had more fun with this then the other Hardlight auto-runners. The competitive aspect almost makes it like Mario Kart. Whoever is in charge of animation has some explaining to do, though. All the gaits look half-assed or unfitting.

Can someone explain how is it competitive? I'm genuinely curious.
From my understanding the amount of actual player input is extremely small given the nature of the game. How does one actually win through skill rather than pure chance?

Mainly through timing their attacks. Making spike walls in a position where your opponent can't dodge can be game changing.

Knowing when to dodge is also very important. Since you can see how far behind your opponent are, you can predict when they get their powerups and dodge accordingly.

You can also strategically fall to second or third place to increase your chances for boost powerups. Very risky, but it can pay off.

The game ultimately doesn't have enough depth to last as an e-sport. RNG turns off most pros because it hurts their consistency in tournaments. The game isn't really too thrilling to watch either.

  13. I am surprised how much I am enjoying Speed Battle. The lag can get a bit frustrating, as can the ads to unlock chests and double points, but whenever I find myself with a spare five minutes I usually open it up for a quick race. It can get pretty intense when you're up against three others who are all pretty good. Just this morning I managed to make a last minute comeback from fourth to first place thanks to a few well placed item walls.

Definitely better than the other Dash games and I would probably go as far as to say it's more engaging and fun than Forces itself. I hope they continue to support it like they did the other mobile games, more characters and tracks would be great.

I'm starting to understand the "meta" of the game. My typical play style currently is to play Sonic, and try to hold on to my projectile and bomb attacks, while constantly using the Shield and jumping. Then if I ever get passed, my next item is either a Shield or Power Sneakers, then just boosting back to first. I'll try to use my bombs while going up a loop as most can't react in time. Since I'm jumping and stomping so much I occasionally will jump over an attack I wouldn't have seen coming. I wish there was a way to fire projectiles backwards.

Bumping this thread to say there is a Holiday event going on. They have added a winter theme to all the levels so there is snow on everything. They are also giving free holiday rewards for the next few days. The update also included some balance changes to some items.

I used to play it, but after a while I stopped caring, as I do with most mobile games lol. But ya the character amount is crazy. What's your excuse TSR?

Hey SEGA Hardlight updated the icon and looks to like Movie Sonic will be in the game as a cross promotional character unlock at some point.
