Thanks for taking the time to do those shots, I did play around with colour correction a bit since the beta and I have already made some tweaks.. tha demo is now ready, well at least as ready as it's going to be, should be available in the next couple of days..
I really like the fact that this game seems to remind you that, oh yeah, Dr. Robotnik is enslaving an entire planet and turning them into bloodthirsty robots. I feel like it's sort of easy to ignore in the original Emerald Hill Zone with its cheery music and idyllic scenery.
I am only posting to say that I don't know what to say. The new screens... I'm like a kid in a candy store. I'm not going to pretend that I don't find the sunny act still very, very saturated (however there doesn't seem to be any blue tint issue in this latest batch and that's great), but I do love these screens, they are just incredible. Pelikan, you are like some kind of classic Sonic fan saviour. Those shots are just awesome. Damn... actually hyped for a Sonic game. Absolutely crazy.
Pelikan there is one thing that is not apparent to me, in the gameplay video: When sonic jumps, does he actually spin faster if he jumps at high speeds? This is something that no recent sonic game by Sega does, and all the classic games did. I know it looks like nitpicking, but this effect alone added to the destructive effect of the spin jump and the spindash. Whether it is implemented or not in the coming demo, it should definitely be implemented in the final release.
He doesn't have to listen to everybody here. He obviously wants feedback from the beta testing and people are giving it to them. If you think for one second that people's critiques in here is "complaining," "stupid" or "unnecessary," you're a fucking idiot. That's why people make these threads: to make their game the best that they can possibly be by getting feedback from their peers. It's up to the creator to pick and choose what critiques suits his/her vision from the posts in this thread. Seriously. It's a simple concept and I'm pretty irritated at people trying to stifle suggestions from people when the creator is asking for them.
Thank you Pelikan for this incredible piece of work. It's amazing on so many levels. I just wanted to chime in with my comments about the color correction. I disagree with the Pheisar mockups, and I think you should stick with your original instincts on color. Two primary reasons: To my eye, the Pheisar mockups really blow out the color and reduce dynamic range, making the whole image appear less energetic and vibrant. Even if your original colors were oversaturated or bluish, the overall feel still better matched the Sonic universe than the Pheisar mockups. Sonic 1 and 2 felt just as vibrant when I first played them, and that's part of what made the art style so exhilarating. Fidelity to that vibrant Sonic feeling is a lot better than fidelity to a color wheel or histogram, even if Pheisar would be right in correcting the color like that in many other situations. I actually made a mockup comparing the screens, but I'll just wait for the demo since it sounds like it's almost ready (YAY!) and you've made some tweaks that current pictures don't show. Keep up the awesome work.
Blame me for this one, I forgot to add it. I've made a mental note to do so, though. Thanks for pointing it out.
Mercury is that something that can be done quickly, in time for the demo release? Just asking (I don't know anything about programing lol). I'd really like the demo (and the game of course) to be the best it can be !
ok, website should be up sometime tomorrow but I thought it wouldn't hurt to give you guys a head start so here is a rapidshare link: http://rapidshare.com/files/426253745/SFRdemo.rar The game contains some bugs, mainly the loops, you could fall off or loose speed on exit but there is no time to fix those for the first release.. enjoy!
Alright! Once again great job on Fan Remix, it was mindnumbingly good in my first playthrough with the beta testing. Can't wait to see what you've fixed since then! I'll give feedback on this ASAP.
Quoted for truth; I loved the beta and I can't wait to see the fixes. The only real issue I had was the loops, but it wasn't a huge deal at all... an overall fantastically high-end product.
Yeah, it was totally impressive and I can't wait to try this one now! Friends I showed it to were very impressed. Thanks again Pelikan and my bad for not following through with that video you talked about last time. edit: It probably the case that this demo shouldn't be shared outside here, eh?
Rapidshare, egads! After it finally crawled down my intertubes, gave it a try and it was good fun. Although stylistically it really doesn't do it for me, I can appreciate the enormous effort that's been put into it, and the physics are of course much better than my foray with Sonic 4.
Just downloaded the demo version, some of the bugs I reported are still in Namely, you can still kill badniks by walking after you fall from a corkscrew, and you can still run using the wrong animation (especially if you hit a spring). Hopefully you can fix those for the next release. I'll take a 1920x1080 screenshot of the title screen and of act 1 for the wiki. I am claiming it. This just in: this forum is public. Thank you come again.
Um...the download isn't working anymore...I think it got overloaded. D: EDIT: Scratch that, I got it...but its gonna take a while D:
Nah what I meant is massively spreading it as there will come an official website and stuff early tomorrow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lszpNEy-bEU...layer_embedded#! Destructoid loves this game it seems. Go to 5:11 when they start talking about it. Waiting for the download to finish myself
Okay, whoa. Holy fucking shit. I... I am at a loss for words. What you guys made here is amazing. Even at 2560x1600 this game looks amazing (clickity click): My only problem is that there's a short delay for jumping. This could, of course, be a problem on my side.
