There is a new video. OMG The game is just that perfect (artistically wise). And pelikan what type of music are thinking about putting in the game? Such a project deserves a really good soundtrack and it would be a pity to just use shitty remixes.

Wow. That's just....wow. I cannot wait to see this finished. That is one beautiful little game. And, much like JigenD said, I can't wait to hear some music, though I'm betting it will be kick ass.

This is not just a "great fangame". This is simply put the boldest fangame I have seen in a very longtime and the odds are it actually has a chance to get released one day.

I have yet to see any "game". Just very pretty graphics. Please hold onto your cum for a while, guys.

The "boldness" I was referring to was related to the art style we have seen thus far.

There was one thing in that small gameplay clip that didn't rub right with me. When Sonic jumped onto that floating platform, rather than actually landing on it, he snapped to a standing position on it.

For those who have expressed "there's only graphics so far, no game" bear this in mind:

Any fool can make a halfway decent engine (I'm proof of that), but the real hard work in any game is having professional quality graphics. They're way more than half the battle.

    Fixed that for ya

Seriously, you're right. Any one can make a half decent engine, but a half decent engine can still play like shit. I'd rather have a great engine with subpar graphics. Playability outweighs beauty

IF WE TIGHTEN THE GRAPHICS ON LEVEL 2, THE GAMEPLAY WILL GO DOWN A NOTCH! :specialed:

This is such a horse shit defense. This isn't a scaling weight where the prettier the visuals, the shittier the game becomes. Come on man, think for a god damn second. If the game sucks with good visuals, chances are it will still suck if it were done with giant 1 colored pixel blocks.

We all have access to pixel-perfect engines: the ROMs themselves. Yet I don't exactly see a profusion of hacks using brand-new professional quality level artwork (though there are a few).

My point still stands: it's more work to make graphics than an engine. I always have more hope for a project with finished level art, even if it hasn't been built in to a game yet, than I do when I see somebody dicking about with some test blocks.

Of course I might just feel this way because my own art skills are terrible.

Way to miss the point. I'm all for pretty visuals AND a good engine. If this guy can get it, that's awesome. But if the engine sucks, no matter how pretty it is, it's still going to suck. You can try and shine a turd but in the end it's still a turd. A game that looks good and plays like ass is basically saying "hey, overlook how bad this handles, because it LOOKS great". When it comes down to, I'd much rather have good gameplay. No "sliding scale" as you put it. :specialed:

I'm with Shad on this one, I prefer to see a video of how the game engine played out in a test room rather than a gameplay of a unfinished level.

I don't suppose you could lend some insight into how you used Unity3D to achieve the gameplay, could you pelikan? I'm dying to know what you did, even if all you can tell me is how you learned. I've been waiting for a program like Unity3D for alteast 3000 years.

As a person who has used Unity3D for a while, it actually is a really good program, you need to know C# Programming at least but it allows you to develop and prototype faster, got some good support, and helps bring things along quickly. In other words, you still got to know your things but it allows you to develop faster with it and has some helpful self-doing things like easy to use lighting and particle effects and shaders. There's some fairly good self-do tutorials and video tutorials around to learn the basics, but it's basic version is free but it's a tool that's only just as good as the person using it which just aims to make the process easier and shorter, more visual than typical 3D game engine. I've been busy making a Haunted House of sorts in it and I've come to love the program myself.

Can I learn C# as I go with this thing?

The game isn't completed yet and everyone here is sitting around talking about how pretty it looks. Everyone knows that before you start making fancy graphics and delights, the game needs to fucking play. Play. Making a test level would be good.

The scenery on the other hand looks nice but it doesn't speak Sonic to me, but nobody here is Japanese or official crew or anything so it doesn't exactly doesn't need to meet Sega expectations(Those expectations have been thrown around over the years considering that they rushed 06' so bad to get the game out for X-mas.) Release date over quality of the game? I'm having second thoughts about this also and I'm beginning to wonder if the creator is just showing off their talents rather than making an actual game.

I understood your point. Kind of hard not to when your argument is basically repeating the same sentence over and over again with words moved around.

The way the game plays matters is important sure, but you haven't actually had anything solid to base it on to make those claims in this thread.

A majority of us are commenting on the visual style he has here. We haven't seen anything from the game itself to judge how it plays so the only thing we can discuss is the visual look, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. Once we get some actual information going then you can blabber on about how the game plays like shit. Until then we are at the mercy at whatever he wishes to show us.

What is this, do you work at an assembly factory for EA Sports titles or something? You start off with a concept, you work with the concept using several assets and as you go along things may be kept, changed or cut. Yeah, you make the damn basics first but you don't put everything else on hold. The man obviously has talent and he's free to use it the best way he sees fit.

The fact that he hasn't released anything playable in the first place shows that he clearly doesn't think this is ready for showtime yet and still working on it. It's absolutely disgusting to see you people coming in here like rabid dogs attacking his work ethic when you haven't even played this yourself to begin with. None of you are coming off as offering suggestions but more as if you're entitled to shoving your beliefs on how he should handle the development on his personal project.

.......And thus the problem with the whole thread: He didn't actually finished a prototype of the Engine to demonstrate how the game will play out. Right now, we have screenshots of what the game might look like when he's through. Therefore, we have nothing to say about the game itself, only the graphics of the game.

My suggestion is to wait until he got engine up so we can help him improve it. Though, this might take a long time seeing that he hasn't replied for days now. Either that, or wait until the demo is out before we can say anything about it. In fact, that should be a rule right now for personal projects.

But I think we scared him off with our demanding suggestions, so I think we should leave this one alone until he replies again.

    A secret. >:3
Well I'm finally done reading through this thread and I do have something I'd like to comment on, if Pelican is still working on this project...

The graphics are excellent. Blew my mind, and even if it doesn't look spot-on with Sonic, I think it's very colorful and the style appeals to me personally as well as adds a bit of variety to the fan game cluster. It alone helps to distinguish this game already and there isn't even any gameplay footage.

Gameplay footage that's more than 3 seconds would be nice though. I noticed nobody asked this in the thread, so maybe it's not a big concern or curiosity with the fan games made here (I'm a fairly new member) but... In what you envision is the final product, will Tails be playable? I'd love to see him in the style, actually. Or will anyone else be playable besides Sonic?

Edit: Also, is there any chance of seeing the newer produced images? All I saw was a 403 error, ImageShack is a dickhole for this reason.
