You've got a very valid point. If SEGA were like that, they'd have shut down Sonic Retro long ago, along with many other websites similar to this. I think Sonic Team could learn a lot from some key developers here though, but obviously it's impossible to please everyone and as I've seen with many projects here, a lot of people take the back seat developer job, criticise projects, offer up stupid suggestions so often that it kinda obscures the direction of the project and it can either collapse under that pressure, or the developer just starts to ignore everyones requests and suggestions. Lets just hope this fan game doesn't collapse under the pressure of everyone wanting it to be released.
...wasn't this suppossed to be a help thread and not a complaint thread? :/ come one people, nobody likes to see their work bashed since we work a lot on it to make it as good as possible. So please, let's stop the hate and spread the love a bit more... Keep going on your project since it looks awesome! I can't wait to play the first demo! (well I can wait, is just a matter of speaking xD)
You need to know the difference between complaints and constructive criticism. I don't think there's a single person here who said he's doing a shitty job. We're all offering criticism in order to improve the game and I for one think that nearly every criticism given so far has a valid point.
Wow at this surprise project! I want to play this asap! He patiently waited until he had a shitload of stuff to show to people, this is a real surprise and this is how it's done! I still can't believe this is a game, I fear this is the best trap ever made and it's actually prerendered!
I must say that this really does look good! Sonic is a little small, think someone allready said that) but that isn't really a complaint! This is top work (not that I understand game engines really, still learning) top work and top kudos! Can't wait to see where this goes
I was just giving my opinion, I've seen some comments that doesn't look like criticism to me, but that's just me, no need to be rude or angry for giving an opinion I think...
Yeah, but you were also having a go at everyone for offering up advice. I only think my comment was rude if you took it that way. Certainly not angry.
I'll tell you all why I think this is going to get finished. Because he didn't do what S2HD did, he's keeping all the work to himself so it'll be easier to get things done without a million people talking into his ear and telling him what to do next.
This is exactly what S2HD did. Yesterday. And has for a long time. Its just that with S2HD, the people who run it open up for improvement, so if someone comes along with something better than what they already have, then darned if they don't use the best one. Also, they dole out specific tasks to the community to speed things along as well. Next time keep up to date.
Was this really necessary? You're talking about a change that was made yesterday and chastising him for not paying enough attention. Regardless, any change in operation doesn't count for much until they at least manage to complete Emerald Hill. To wit, they'd have to have made it to Aquatic Ruin by now for me to deem the project anything other than a complete disaster.
Oh crap, I haven't been on the S2HD forum for a while. Ah well either way I still think this will get done.
I'll say whats on my mind right now: This is GREAT. Fucking GREAT. Im looking forward to see more screenshots and things! That Sonic model is indeed sexy too! Keep the good work!
Chimpo: way to go, my führer. (btw I find the girl in your sig very distracting.) anyway, I am surprised that I didn't know about this until when I just clicked the retro start page. oh my fucking god this is so fucking awesome (yeah, I know I don't say that very often.) Btw: I just read all the 15 pages and I seem to be overlooking something -- the news article on Sonic Retro promises a *video* in this thread. I can't find it...(?) Someone's gotta make a booth for this, quick!
So, I usually just lurk around these boards, not even signing in. This topic has however inspired me to not only sign in, but post as well! This has got to be one of the most beautiful fan projects I've ever seen. Keep up the excellent work, and I look forward to seeing more. I adore the art style! (And what a great Sonic model!)
